Gotta say, incorporating certain Pokemon Go mechanics into a remake of Gen 1 is a very clever move. Go was a lot of people's first real entry into Pokemon, and this provides an opportunity for them to get in on the series proper and catch up on the world and lore with gameplay they're slightly more familiar with. Plus I just like the addition of having some mechanical control over my catch rate and I'm excited to have that as an option in a main-series game.
And it looks like you can actually see wild mons on the world map, instead of the random encounter system! I've never understood why that's not standard, every RPG should have started doing that years ago.
My main concern is whether they'll water down the stat sheets to the three-stat system of Go--I hope not, because so many longtime players are big on the number crunching. (I'm not, so it won't personally affect my own experience that much, but still.)

Well, I hate to dampen the mood, but I'm not terribly thrilled.
I still feel like I need my thoughts to settle in my head some more, otherwise I'm just going to spout off a knee-jerk rant that I'm going to regret at a later date. But there is one thing I would like to get off my chest:
I'm 27 years old.
My first Pokemon game was Red.
I grew up with Generation I.
And yet...
I am so sick to death of Kanto.
I'm just gonna outright say it: Generation I and Kanto have little going for it aside from nostalgia. And I hope that Game Freak finally gets the Kanto-pandering out of their system with these games, because I'm getting really tired of it.

Granted, I almost never play the side games so I could be missing something, but Kanto's had just as many games as the other regions. I mean, if you count Kanto's inclusion in the aftergame of Gen II and it's remakes that gives it a little more limelight, but frankly I always found that a thoroughly distinct experience from playing the games where Kanto is the main highlight. And frankly I always loved that part of Gen II because it gave you so much more to do after clearing the E4 than any of the mainline games since have.

And frankly I always loved that part of Gen II because it gave you so much more to do after clearing the E4 than any of the mainline games since have. I think it has something to do with the fact that Game Freak is pandering to all those nostalgic towards the 1st Generation (aka Genwunners). Gen 6 had the Gen 1 starters given out in X and Y, plus the majority of Mega Evolutions are from Gen 1 . Same thing with the Alolan forms for Gen 7, where all of them are from Gen 1, at the expense of the other generations. List of Mega and/or Alolan forms from Gen 1 Bulbasaur line (Mega) Charmander line (Mega x2) Squirtle line (Mega) Weedle line (Mega) Pidgey line (Mega) Rattata line (Alolan) Pikachu line (Alolan, Raichu only) Sandshrew line (Alolan) Vulpix line (Alolan) Diglett line (Alolan) Meowth line (Alolan) Abra line (Mega) Geodude line (Alolan) Slowpoke line (Mega, Slowbro only) Grimer line (Alolan) Gastly line (Mega) Exeggcute line (Alolan, Exeggutor only) Cubone line (Alolan, Marowak only) Kangaskhan (Mega) Pinsir (Mega) Magikarp line (Mega) Aerodactyl (Mega) Mewtwo (Mega x2) This is not including those Pokemon released in a different generation but related to a Gen 1 Pokemon (like Scizor and Steelix). If those were, the list would be bigger.

And frankly I always loved that part of Gen II because it gave you so much more to do after clearing the E4 than any of the mainline games since have. Then you add in their remakes plus these new games, and Kanto is accessible in five out of seven Generations. Even when Kanto isn't physically present, I've noticed for the past two Generations that Game Freak has made it a point to cash in on Generation I nostalgia whenever possible. To further answer your question about overuse, I think it's pretty telling when Generation I is more heavily represented in Alola than Pokemon from it's own Generation. And there's also the fact that every single Alola variant is a Generation I Pokemon. To reiterate, I don't hate Generation I. I don't hate Kanto. For all their faults and flaws, I still love the games and that very first batch of Pokemon. But I also love the other Generations as well. So it's getting a little frustrating to have Game Freak metaphorically shout, "HEY REMEMBER HOW AWESOME KANTO WAS" at nearly every other turn.

Early alphas of Pokémon Gold and Silver as previously displayed in Nintendo Spaceworld 1997 were just leaked today, with plenty of YouTube videos showing the original new Pokémon designs as well as various other differences.
As somebody who likes reading up about pre-release copies of games, I find the news very fascinating and recommend checking out the aforementioned videos to learn more about the differences.

Ahh, cut content that sees the light of day years down the line! I love when lost media is found!
Fire bear is the best, I'm sad that it was cut. Please let fire bear be a real Pokemon some day, Gamefreak? 8D

My goodness, it is tough to get to level 100 in Ultra Sun/Moon.
The highest level trainer you can battle more than once is only level 70.

I guess that's what Poké Pelago and Festival Plaza's Rare Kitchen are for. xD; I also found some success SOS chaining Chansey/Blissey on Poni Island, so that's another battley option.

I've been doing those. Only got the one rare kitchen though.

So did anyone get the new Kanto remake?
I've heard vaguely that there was a ton of vehement naysaying leading up to it, but I'm finding it a lot of fun, especially fiddling around with the pokeball and its features. I work in an electronics department now and I bought the game on my break because I had a premonition it was going to be sold out by the time my shift was over. I was correct. xD;
