Today, I went to a watershed for no real reason. It just seemed like a nice day to do it. I am so very happy that I did, too. It is sort of a mix between a prarie and a wetlands type place surrounded by woods, with paths. There is a concrete path that is suspended that goes through the middle so you are part of the place. Its so wonderful.
Lets see, first of all, the flowers. There were so many different types and varieties everywhere. Was really beautiful scenery.
The beavers. I've never actually seen beavers, but today I saw about five. And two of them were little pups. They were unbelievably adorable. Undescribably adorable. And I got to go right up to them before they tried to get away.
I also got to see a huge amount of colorful birds, but the prize of the hour was an endangered Blue Herrin. I saw it and froze because I had never seen one before, and then it flew off. It was really beautiful. I'm so happy I got to see it. Other birds I saw included two other species of herrins, gold finches, blue birds, red wing black birds, some geese and some baby geese. I saw more, but those stand out a bit more.
And on one part of the trail, it was covered with these little fingernail sized frogs. I really wanted one. ^_^
Anyways the whole experience was wonderful, and felt really lifting. I've been to the water shed before, but never at this time of year.
I left out a bunch of stuff, but thats just the most memoriable stuff.

List of animals I've seen while in the woods: - Quails, both male and female... (California State bird)
- Crested and western bluejays
- Wild turkeys
- Skink. (snake-like think with tiny legs) I swear, it moved like a snake.
- Some rodent-type thing... I don't know what it was, but it was incredibly cute.
- A dead rat. It looked very flat, and it's eyes had already been eaten by bugs...
- Racoons... I got about a foot away from them, and even though I couldn't really see well in the dark, I saw them bare their teeth at me...
- Coyotes
- Humming birds
- A wild rat (living).. Actually, I saw it in my backyard...
- A few farm animals (including little piglets). There's a farm at the preserve, go figure.
The list goes on and on...

I live out in the sticks, so I get to see wild animals alot. I live sortof by the Cheasapeke bay. In my yard and the surrounding fields I've seen:
Rabbits, Groundhogs, Deer, Foxes, Vultures, Blue Herons ('Queh--!' They make weird noises), Canadian Geese with fuzzy babies! ^_^, a vole?, a shrew (I thought it was a mouse, untill I caught it and saw it's big teethies) Possums, Racoons, Red Tailed Hawks, and some sort of owl. Oh! and don't forget bats.

Oh! and don't forget bats. Yay! Bats! I've seen a few of them, too, but never really up close... I thought I saw a couple of bats after the fireworks show on July 4th (Independence Day for the US), but I could've been mistaken. They looked too big to be the kind of bats that live in my area.

I have all those things here, too. ^_^ Plus a bazillion more like Coyotes, turtles, snakes, lizards, three kinds of owls, etc. Your environment must be kind of close to the same as my own.
