A long time coming, I've created a Banner for the forum roleplay Wrighton ( roleplay, OOC thread, hosted by Fraze and Huntress ). But it's not quite finished, and I need your help. See, the spaceship featured in this banner was written to have squiggles all over it, and you'll notice my ship is blank. My idea was to somehow make it a group project, where any and everyone interested could add in a symbol or two to the ship. Obviously anyone who participated in the roleplay, but maybe even those who didn't or came after it was over could join in if they want to. Any skill level as well. For a guide to all things squiggles, see Lizica 's post and Wrighton Poster. The only thing I can't quite remember, while most of the illustrations of the squiggles were in black and white, I think they were actually in various colors, Huntress ? Okay, here's the hard part. I'm not sure how to organize and complete the drawing with several other people involved. Do we take turns passing the file around? Do we all converge at once on a special art program such as Drawpile that allows multiple artists on one canvas? Do we submit a transparent layer and have someone piece them all together and hope no one overlaps? Do we give up on the whole "group project" aspect and I just draw the squiggles? Another option? If you're interested in participating, or if you have comments or suggestions on how to complete it, please post! I'm so close to finishing this project after four years, and I want to get over the finish line.

The simplest thing to do is to "partition" parts of the spaceship in clumps. That way, everyone can have a separate file, and all it would take to put it back together is the move tool. Even if some Drawpile-like software were used, partitioning the different parts of the spaceship is a first step.

Partition could be one way. Some other ideas I have:
-Depending on how much personal hand you want to have in the designing: someone could draw their symbol, and you could either paste it somewhere on the ship or draw it on yourself. -You could open a Google Draw (or something similar) where the whole ship is there, and people add a symbol where there is space.
I would probably just draw a pre-existing symbol, or one of the letter symbols to translate a phrase or word from the RP, so I don't accidentally do something that means something else. I wonder how many of the alphabet symbols are in play. But it also looks from the poster (looking over Lizica's post) that there are several that may not have an alphabetical or numerical meaning.

If I were to partition, Moni, I think I'd want to know how many people were participating first, so that I know how many parts to divide it into. But that's a good idea. I'm not remembering the symbol alphabet, Gelquie, I'm guessing it was used in a substitution cypher somewhere? I do remember the base-sixteen symbols though. Last time I checked Google Draw, which was like four years ago to be fair, it wasn't powerful enough for what I needed for this. Maybe it's changed, though. Drawpile is a downloaded software, but it does the same basic thing, multiple artists on one canvas. I don't remember it being particularly easy to use, but the art tools were more powerful at least. Might be on to something with the first point. Maybe do a rough draft/sketch in a simple program that allows for multiple artists, and then I can trace over it with my own art program, to smooth it out, make it more unified and all that. Not unlike what I did with Harry the Grarrl.

Yeah, I agree with others! I think it could be a good approach to divvy up the ship, and have each participant draw their squiggles separately, and then you, June, could trace over them or use them, and then fill in any gaps in between our squiggles to make it look more cohesive.
Also, the banner's looking awesome so far!! The new stars are just gorgeous, and Harry the Grarrl looks SO smooth and sleek. This is such a cool project, I love it. <3
(Also, obviously sign me up to help draw squiggles, please. x3)

I think I'll probably take the squiggles people submit, and trace over them. It'll be a lot easier to keep it cohesive that way. I will also start a signup sheet with Lizica at the top, thank you for volunteering! We'll see how much interest we get. Maybe I should draw an example of a squiggle for scale? It's a very big ship, though the squiggles can't be too tiny or else they won't be legible.

Updates on the this project! I went ahead and drew in some example squiggles to get the ball rolling on this. This is the full banner: And this is a closeup of the ship: I can't remember what color the squiggles are supposed to be, so I made them a dark blue, to match the rest of the scene. I guess if you have squiggles you want added, chime in.

And... I've gone ahead and filled in the rest of the squiggles this evening. I did change the color to orange, to make it contrast better with the background. Here's a close up for those interested: I'm thinking that about makes a forum banner. Maybe I should go back and add my name, I'll think about it tonight. If there's anything else to fix before making it official, let me know. Oh, and sorry, I know it was supposed to be this cool group project. I never did figure out the logistics for that, though, and in the end, I decided to just get it done.

I'm finding myself second-guessing my art choices. Did I add *too* many squiggles? Is orange the right color? Argh.
Also, is a forum banner 900 by 175 pixels, or 900 by 176 pixels? I've seen both!

It looks gorgeous! Don't second-guess yourself, because it's perfect, in my opinion. If you're unsure, get Official Approval of Fraze and Hunty (though they adore anything Wrighton, so their reaction will probably be "asfjkfjk", lol)
Also, I'd go with 900 x 175. 176 seems random. xD

Thank you. Well, in that case, I'll add my signature, and there we go, it's ready!

Looks awesome! That is an absolutely adorable squiggly derpship.
I like how some of the designs look almost-but-not-quite like recognizable objects - one looks kind of like a baker's hat, another like a happy snake, there's a few flowery things in there. It gives the impression the ship is covered in stories we don't quite have the right context (or even the correctly wired brain) to understand.

I love it, June!! It's so lively and gorgeous and bursting with fun energy! =DDD And I'm glad you went ahead and finished it yourself. It was always your vision, and I do love June Squiggles(tm)!! ^^
