downrightdude and Carolyn-If I remember correctly, it's 5 shards per day, so if someone misses a day, then they'll find more shards, although missed days will only award 1 point for shards found instead of 5. I thought it was some sort of glitch; especially since people were supposedly getting 6 shards on the first day.

There was a glitch that I saw folks mentioning on the Discord about getting extra shards, but I wasn't sure if it would ultimately cap at 35 or go over... you never really know with the spaghetti code.

Honestly, it's kind of a bummer that the shards depreciate in value, too Exactly! Personally, I work 12 hour shifts, so the timelines are really tough...

Honestly not sure what rewards to get. 100% get the Varia Bomb, pppb, and then from there... I'm not sure, too. At a bit of a ? for me and my 95 remaining points

So with my 175 points this is what I went with: * Varia is the Bomb (25 Points)
(No explanation needed, is a powerful bomb which rivals the Ghostkerbomb. The difference between them is V-Bomb will always do 25 icons while G-Bomb has over a 50% of doing more damage. Admittedly I don't think I'll be removing my G-Bomb anytime soon, but if I ever need an assured 25 icon bomb for whatever reason doesn't hurt to have in my SDB; and at worst I can sell it as good weapons are always in demand). * New Faerieland Stamp (25 Points)
(Again, no explanation needed; never hurts to get the exclusive Stamp for the limited time event especially if it doesn't cost too many points) * Culture and History of Faerieland (55 Points)
(Spoiler, this is the highest costing prize I get and the only non-exlcusive prize I opted to get. Why not one of the PBs, LF Doll, or Fyora Card? Well for the latter two they're hard to sell and if anyone wanted one, well, they can now get it. As for the PBs, being PBs I feel there are other chances of getting them now and likely in the future so nothing I felt I needed. The book, though is still purchasable in the Book Shop (though oddly not the Faerieland Bookshop? Just normal Neopian Central one), I feel fills a specific niche. Even though this event has decreased its price, being a consumable it'll likely go back up. Also I think more players honed in on the PBs and other higher prizes than the book, so I don't think too many entered the market (and being a rare restock not much is entering the normal way to effect its price). Once a book is read its (usually) gone, and with there being a trophy connected to reading the most books there will be someone someday looking to purchase it to be on the High Score Table. And if not, well, I could always just read it to Freezo and maybe begin my quest to get him on the high score table) * Gift of Calabrus (20 Points) * Stuck in Crystal Wearable (15 Points) * Nephrites Notes (15 Points) * Faerieland Employment Agency Employee Handbook (8 Points) * Luxinias Destroyed Diary (8 Points)(The exclusive unique-looking wearables and books. Usually never a bad investment) * Petpet Icon Gummies (2 Points) * Jar of New Faerieland Dirt (1 Point)(x 2)(Which left 4 Points. I could have gotten one of the 4 point items, but none really interested me. Which left the Waleins Horn, Petpet Icon Gummies, and the Jar of New Faerieland Dirt. I decided on the Gummies because, even though they're r101 Food so not really anything special, is still a consumable so maybe might be a collectible worth a chunk of NP later. And while I still had enough to get the Waleins Horn... I'll admit another reason I didn't get a 4 point prize is cause I found the Jar of NF Dirt a bit funny. Maybe because every time I see it I sing " I got a jar of dirt" in my head, but eitherway I decided I wanted to have one. And yes, I could have just bought on, but doing this way means I get TWO jars of dirt! EDIT: I did not read the description of the Jar of FL Dirt until now! LOL! Now I'm really glad I got two. Justified! )

The Shield of Faerieland being in the shop led me to check out other shields and the Battledome more generally. And all the hype over the Varia bomb made me realize how deeply the Battledome used to be embedded in the site. There is a board made by labmom953 that has been bumped since 2016. One of the serious ongoing problems with the Battledome is that in 1-player, enemies can spam (i.e. cast over and over) full-blocking abilities like Throw Pillows and Tempest. These abilities are supposed to be one-use, but something is wrong with the coding on the back end, causing the enemies to be able to just spam them. This means, unless you freeze the enemy first with an equally-broken ability like Lens Flare, or something like Thunder Sticks, and just one-shot them with the strongest weapons you have (Void Blade, Varia is the Bomb etc.), you actually can't win. You can't interact with them by shielding, using dual-duties etc. because they'll just prevent you from using any weapons. (Unless they happen to randomly choose something other than Tempest or whatever in a given turn.) This is incredibly broken. I can't believe TNT has left the Battledome broken for so long. I feel deeply apprehensive about the upcoming plot that is causing the prices of Neggs, Codestones, weapons etc. to skyrocket. There is so much hype for it. But so, so much that needs to be done, and I feel almost certain that the thousands of players investing and hoping are going to be disappointed.

Oh absolutly agreed with the above. People who do not have any sort of battle pet should probably invest in training something up, but nothing at all like the hype that's being drummed by certain parties. A pet with 55 strength and Lens Flare is probably going to be all the average person needs to be able to participate in the content, assuming its anything like Wraith Resurgence. I'd love to be proven wrong, another war would be GREAT, but I have 0 confidence of it happening.
What's going on with training items right now is 100% artificial. There probably are a decent number of new people training, but nothing to justify the numbers we're seeing right now with red codestones and neggs (which are quadruple the price they were last year despite many of them being moderately common items).
And don't even get me started on weapons. If there was ever any doubt about the artificial nature of it all, its the weapons. Outdated items that are irrelevant in the current 1p meta have shot up in price, and for what? The only people buying are collectors or 2p people like me who are stupid enough to pay because being involved and playing the actual game felt like more fun than sitting on points I didn't have any plans to spend. Still hurts, though. Still makes me mad.

(Unless they happen to randomly choose something other than Tempest or whatever in a given turn.) This is incredibly broken. I can't believe TNT has left the Battledome broken for so long. JN's IDB held their own battling event a few months ago, the Dome Decennial, which certainly showcased to those who participated how wonky the new BD is when you get into the nitty gritty. As you said, the 1P Challengers aren't restricted to their Abilities to being one-use. And while there were certainly some which you can 1HKO, many of the stronger ones you can't (remember, their is a max to the Strength Boost and even with the most powerful weapon you're probably at best going to do a little over 1k; then you got to take into account the Challenger's shields and healing items (Oh, BTW, the Challengers aren't restricted to the same Strength & Defense Boost limits so the tougher ones can block more than a normal Neopet and certainly hit more harder)). HOWEVER, that didn't mean the tougher ones were unbeatable. You'd be surprised that, despite having infinite Ability use, with the right equipment you can work around it (though there were also cases where one use of it would end up KOing your Neopet). Infact, because of that, I don't think it was a mistake Challengers can use any Ability multiple times; since they choose Equipment and Abilities at random, if they did have to play with the same Ability rules we had SO MANY of them would have the difficulty completely taken out of them. If there's one thing the Dome Decennial taught me, it was how invaluable a good defense is. Luckily many of the Challengers stick to certain icons, so if you were able to get a Shield that blocked most of those icons (or a Shield and something like a Dual Duty which both blocked and did damage to use together), what normally would be a one or two turn KO on your end turns into a drawn out battle where you have a chance at winning. And I did, when a stronger opponent was up I checked their weapons, made a plan, changed up my weapons, and by the end I defeated many opponents on the higher difficulty I never thought I would. It also taught me the best time to use a Freezer and weapon disabling Ability isn't as soon as possible, often it was near the end of the match where they had used up their healer and I just needed one final push to win (though I was also doing this to try and heal last second as the Dome Decennial went by BD points and you get the most BD points by ending a battle with full HP). I also learned sometimes the best use of a Healer was early on, especially if your opponent had a Freezer/weapon disabling Ability and they could 1KHO your Neopet if they wasn't at full HP. Also, caring is sharing, while I never borrowed a weapon myself, I lent some players certain weapons I got before prices had skyrocketed so they could win today's challenge with full points (when The Mystical Tablet became tradeable I got one asap and it was invaluable in some fights). Oh absolutly agreed with the above. People who do not have any sort of battle pet should probably invest in training something up, but nothing at all like the hype that's being drummed by certain parties. Still hurts, though. Still makes me mad. If they follow the model of the most recent war event, War for the Obelisk (or even the battling portions of The Faeries' Ruin), 55 Strength and Lens Flare will help with the mooks for sure but you'll be struggling if not completely walled by the end. But yeah, the inflation is artificial and I don't know why it suddenly became a thing. Previously it was only when it was revealed a plot/event had what looked like a dedicated battling portion (if not a war) than that's when prices would increase as many players would rush their Neopets to training and upgrading. Now I think I heard TNT vaguely hinting they were thinking of plot/event ideas, but I haven't heard anything concrete (and them even saying that could be wishful thinking of my part and they never said anything). Still, without the certainty of what's coming being a battling event, the inflation is strictly from other players who are buying up all the cheaper Codestone, Neggs, & BD Equipment and stirring up FOMO. Likely also using the sudden release of very good BD Equipment from the smaller events and Advent Calendar as "proof" something big is coming and TNT is preparing us (which, if true, I'll give some credit to TNT for at least recognizing most players wouldn't likely be prepared for a bigger battling event).

I would love for there to be another war. But Obelisk and Ruin were under Viacom, when they actually had resources to spend on events. Asking for that level of detail from JS/ND... to each their own. I don't believe it will happen nor do I believe there will be a war. Just another small plot with a battle element like Wraith. Which gave us a "boss" with a whopping 89hp on easy. A tiny lens flare pet could very much cheese that fight. Yes, they would miss out at the hard difficulty bonuses, but were by no means left out of battle aspects of the plot.
I hate to be conspiratorial, but I think the inflation goes deeper. Buying up items that people perceive as desirable under the pretense that you NEED to stock up for the "big" plot that's coming. Selling those items between themselves repeatedly, creating the false impression there is demand and that those not buying are missing out on something. Forcing codestone prices up, which causes people to panic buy thinking something major is about to happen with this plot (that will likely just be more of the same we've seen from JS)... far be it from me to say it all feels very manufactured in a way that goes beyond plot hype the usual crowd just looking for a "good investment" (as they like to say). But, well.
BDC is guilty of it more than most. Some of them earnestly believe this is going to be THE battle plot they've all been waiting for. But there are many more generating buzz that (to me) feels deeply artificial.
Would like to be wrong. Would LOVE to be wrong. I want a chance to battle in another big war or battle plot. We'll see.
[edit] Actually wanted to tack on one more thought. The BD inflation started well before advent and the release of new weapons. I was desperately scrapping points together starting in Oct of 2022, trying to get some good 2p equipment, and many of those items were already heading towards prices way outside of their usual stable. Attack peas, WoDF/Istaff were already skyrocketing. This isn't speculation generated by the new weapons. They hide behind the faint whiff of a plot as explanation for the wild inflation. I'm doubtful.

It depends on the enemy. If they have the ability "Shhhh..." then it's not as bad, but if they're spamming "Tempest" then your turn just literally gets skipped. It doesn't matter if you chose a shield or whatever, everything you do on that turn is completely skipped. And if you're unlucky, they'll Tempest three or more turns in a row, not allowing you to do anything regardless of how well you prepare or how carefully you play. If that isn't broken, I don't know what is.
