That's so unfair, downrightdude. The idea that certain toys and hobbies are only appropriate for one hyperspecific idea of gender is absolutely ridiculous. They're for anyone and everyone who enjoys them.
Imagine buying toys for your pet cat (or dog or whatever) and applying the same logic that some people do with "gendered toys" for Humans. "Oh goodness no, Fluffy is a girl she can't play with a crinkle ball or a cardboard box!! Those are for boys! She can have plush mice and feathers-on-a-string instead!" XP
My dollies and transforming robots share the same shelf.

I was the kid who played with both Barbies and Hot Wheels, as well as all variety of toys in-between. Nerf guns? Check. Dollies? Check. Paint sets and other craft things? Check. Thankfully, my mom was not the type to impose toy gender expectations. When we ate at McDonalds, sometimes I'd ask for the Barbie, and when I wanted the Hot Wheel, she helped me ask for it to make sure I got it.
Now I'm reminded of some of the Hot Wheels tracks I had for a while. It was super fun to set them up and watch the cars go. (And occasionally crash because I was still a small child who liked slapstick.)
Mind, I don't tell my family that I, an adult, still keep a stuffed toy around, because they do have weird normalized expectations about what's for kids vs what's for adults. (My mom still thinks that animated = for kids, and that something animated for kids is not for adults.) But if they noticed they haven't said anything. Probably one of my other family members does too and might mention it more often, but that's a guess.

My parents never did the gendered toys thing. I actually had very few dolls as a kid because they knew that I wasn't really into them. I played with Transformers, GI Joe, stuffed animals, Littlest Pet Shop, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Polly Pocket, keychain virtual pets, and so many other things I can't even remember right now. XD
My family has always been pretty supportive of my interests. Never had any judgement for liking certain things or continuing to collect toys even as an adult. I'm actually running out of space because they keep giving me gifts of plushies, which is a pretty great problem to have.

There was a period on my life where I was "free" to pursue my interests. But there was a time limit, and I knew it when I felt it. Since then, it's bene an endless cycle of "conceal, don't reveal" because the societal gender-norms started exposing themselves. Everything from TV shows to books were openly criticized with a firm "stop it". I've been wanting to fight this for years, but I honestly can't tell if there's been any progress (besides Mother not caring what I watch) in recent years, so I'm forever on edge. Hence why I've been feeling so stressed since the Holiday Season began. (Also gold stars to anybody hat got my Holiday Barbie references during the Trick or Treating event. You think I'm creative enough to make a Santa gown? ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) ) Anyways, I've been watching doll collecting videos on YouTube to boost my ego. If nothing changes, at least I can plant the seeds of revolution. *goes back to sewing red dress*

downrightdude, as someone who does not conform to the standards imposed on my assigned at birth gender (well, not all of them), my advice is live your best life. Gender is arbitrary. Do what makes you happen. Life is too short to not enjoy stuff regardless of whether it is masculine or feminine or not.

![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Even more empowerment! I knew I was Queen of the Bloids for a reason! I definitely feel a bit more energized than I've been feeling this past few weeks, but time will tell if I can truly bring upon any positive changes to my chronically-chaotic mind. I also need to sort out who needs to get what, since I need to get the 2022 Holiday Barbie this year since I somehow forget they existed last year (and need to solve the mystery of WHY A STORE GOT RID OF THE FEW DOLLS THEY HAD IN STOCK IN OCTOBER??) *dances a merry festive jig**trips and falls into unlit fireplace*

Today's hashtag paid work task: taped paper crescent moons to coworkers' backs and made them pose with one leg in the air to mimic the pose of the logo of the upcoming national event while I took pictures of them aligned with a poster.

I've been documenting my NT submissions for over a decade now. But my file system is rather buggy nowadays, so I'm interested in finding a new way to document what and when I submit an NT piece. I'll put them in my journal if nothing else, but I was wondering if we'd be interested in having a thread for when you submit a Neopian Times piece? I'm thinking like this thread, only for when you submit: ntwriters.proboards.com/thread/51572/accepted-held-over-celebrate

It's been zero four years...
I'll appreciate the leap day even more this time because it means more time at my rental before I have to move out to I don't even know.
Anyway, my daily walk has been impeded by strong winds. Instead, I'm pondering phone calls that I don't actually want to make, things I can do over the weekend, and life shtuff. How's everyone else's day?

I have laundry in the washer and dryer that I should move, but I don't feel like getting up yet lol. Cheering you on for those phone calls!

To the laundry! For once it's going, it's just a waiting game anyway. =D (Unless you have to fold.)
Thank you! I'm willing to bet that I'll procrastinate this opportunity away too.
Also having fun brainstorming stuff for the Valentine's event. Thankfully it's really easy to come up with cheesy stuff. Hard part is choosing which one. xD

True true, nice thing about laundry is you can do other stuff in the meantime. Once I finish eating my food, I promise I'll get up then xD
Aw, well either way cheering you on, whether you make the phone calls today or later! I've had some phone calls I've been putting off as well, so I know the feeling >>;
Ooh that's right, I need to sign up for that! I've got a potential idea for cards, depending on who all participates :3
