Rainbow PoolFor the third consecutive pet day, we're not getting any clothing based on site characters, although, with the Ruki, a bit understandable. Instead, it is Orchid Ruki Armour

That orchid armour looks beautiful! And I don't know much about bug anatomy and thus couldn't speak to its accuracy, but that is neat that they didn't go with just a typical skeleton for the transparent Ruki.

Transparent Ruki:pets.neopets.com/cp/lbdn2d9l/1/4.pngVery interesting idea they have here. Of course kudos for not giving a bug a skeleton , guess after the Transparent Peophin incident they learned to check to see if the animal the Neopet is based on has unique biology to take into account. But they still needed some structure to move its arms and legs so came up with this hard muscle-looking structure which doesn't look outside of what an exoskeleton would look like in a bigger creature. And of course we got the rest of the organs I heard look about right for a bug. Clothing/Orchid Ruki Armor:images.neopets.com/images/nf/orchid_ruki.pngThis looks pretty cool! Whoever said pink wasn't a fierce color hadn't met this Ruki yet! They did a nice job with combining the flower design with armor. Not sure if there's any customization options for it, though I think this is one set where you're making the customization around it.

Pretty sure they took the armor idea from the orchid mantis which is just cool as heck. I also can't speak to bug anatomy but it looks good and I recognize that was definitely a design challenge since, you know, exoskeletons.

Insects and other arthropods do have openings in their exoskeletons called spiracles that allow them to breathe by letting air inside. In fact, this is part of the reason why insects aren't able to get bigger than they currently are. Breathing by just having air flow inside you on its own is all fine and good when you're tiny, but it becomes a problem when you're so big that the amount of oxygen you're getting through your spiracles isn't enough and you can't force more in like us air-breathing vertebrates can. It's also why bugs in the Carboniferous got so huge: the oxygen levels were much higher back then, so insects could get big and still be able to breathe at the same time.
ANYWAY, amateur entomology trivia aside, I suppose that might be the inspiration for the holes in the Ruki's skeleton? Any media with giant bugs is inevitably going to throw realism out the window, but it is still nice to see the effort into making this one more obviously bug-like in its anatomy. (Unlike giving the Transparent Buzz a vertebrate skeleton...)
