I may or may not have already applied.
It was just too tempting.

I'm so tempted to apply, but I have so much self-doubt that I'm scared at the thought of actually being selected and don't think I'm good enough anyway, haha. :'D
Though it's actually the "Meh, I doubt I'd be picked anyway" thought that would give me any courage to try at all, lol.

At first glance I got really excited, but then I read it closely and realized it was only for merch. Still, a pretty neat thing for them to do and hopefully a step in a direction we want to see with them engaging more and asking for user submitted content. That said, being it is merch, this does make me feel a bit extra iffy. Like, okay, the maker's name & username gets displayed with their art (though hopefully they'll have an option to only use their name as I know some people like to keep their username & real name separate for security reasons). But, do they get anything else? Like I imagine a free piece of merch they helped design at least, right? You're not just going to sell their work and give them nothing but a mention in return, right? Enter. Why? Why not. If you get picked you'll have the honor of having your art being offered as official Neopets art (and hopefully any other awards). If you don't get picked, consider your art having been the "benchmark" that the others had to surpass and take solace that at the very least this means there's good-looking merch on its way if TNT passed over yours for theirs.

I took the "payment for use" line to mean that any artists picked would be financially compensated for Neopets using their artwork, although I'm not experienced with this kind of work and may be reading it wrong lol. It's a good thing to question, though, to make sure that artists are indeed being paid and that it's fair compensation. I've got a feeling the former is the case, but I have no idea how much they're planning on giving artists (nor do I know what is or isn't fair for this kind of work).
I'm in the Neopets Reddit discord server where staff members like Gutterfoot will chat and answer questions now and then, but I've had it muted recently and have missed any potential conversations about this over there. For anyone else in that server, have you caught any discussion about payment over there?
Either way, though, I'm intrigued to apply for this; I want to update my Neopets portfolio before doing so, but I figure there's no harm in taking the chance. It has me curious about the whole process of collaborating with Neopets and how it's decided what merch you make and how it'll be produced.

Finished updating my art page this morning, and just replied to their automated email with my info. Kind of doubt I'll be accepted, as my art isn't on-model, but I'm excited anyway. (At least it was a good reason to update with all my pretty art! www.neopets.com/~dorothy_scarlet )

(At least it was a good reason to update with all my pretty art! www.neopets.com/~dorothy_scarlet ) While they'll probably will judge many entries trying to replicate the approved Neopet style to how on-model it is, at the same time they'll likely also be looking for unique & stylized art styles too. So while being on-model is good on one end if you feel you can match it, on the other end if you have your own style may still be worth submitting that in to see if its something which catches their eyes.

Duke Pikachu - Thanks. :3 Anyway, it took a bit longer than I'd expected, but I finally finished putting together my portfolio and have officially applied! xD If nothing else, I'm happy that the almost exclusively Neopets art I've been doing for the last few years is actually serving some purpose in a professional sphere. I was never sure if I should include my Neo art in a regular portfolio, so I'm thrilled it can finally be useful! Since most of my best and recent art is Neo-related, lol. ^^; I wonder when people will start to hear back.
