The WHO has now renamed the variants of concern and interest for Covid-19 after letters in the Greek alphabet. This could help avoid the issue of regions getting blamed or shamed for a variant being discovered there without resorting to confusing names like B.1.1.7 (which is now called Alpha). www.who.int/en/activities/tracking-SARS-CoV-2-variants/

Situtation in the UK feels like it's on a knife edge. Around 80% of our adult population has had its first dose, for about 62% overall. 57% of the adult population has also had their second dose, translating to 46% of the overall population. However, most of those people are older people. We've only had the vaccine opening up to all adults literally today, and that is only to book appointments. There are also supply issues when it comes to mRNA vaccines, which is all younger people can get.
Meanwhile cases are rising, although hospitalisations and deaths remain steady-ish. They hover up and down, generally climbing slowly, but not following cases so far. There is some talk of a slowdown in infections, but it has yet to pan out in terms of actual numbers. Best prediction I've seen so far is that it will all peak in 10-14 days.
Restriction easing has been paused everywhere. Scotland is enforcing a travel ban on the worst hit areas, which, um, I am watching that with extreme wariness if they decide to extend it. Right now, all I feel like I can do is hold my breath and waiting. But holding one's breath is such a difficult and painful thing to do.
I am so tired of all this. Feels like the deep ache you get when you've been carrying a heavy weight too long. I don't know when this will all be over, but I want it to be over now.

A few days ago, some restrictions in my location were lifted as we met the threshold to reopen with majority receiving the first dose, although malls are still closed for the time being. It definitely felt like a long time here, since my region was under lockdown since November or so. Still, the Delta variant of Covid is causing some concerns, so I wouldn't be surprised it was the same variant that's also causing concern in the UK, Celestial. I just hope that this variant doesn't scupper the reopening plans that's currently in place.

For a bit of an update-- My grandparents are fully vaccinated and completed their waiting period, my mother recently got her second shot, and my sisters recently received their firsts. I'm still waiting on my shot, because I can't say I've yet completely recovered. I mean, I would say I'm around 90% good, though I've had a few relapses to varying degrees throughout my recovery and occasionally still have congestion and/or a mild fever. BUT, I'm certain I'm gonna pull through, and I'm hoping I'll be fully recovered soon. In similar news, the provincial government wants to have all provincial health restrictions lifted by mid July. Given the unpredictability of the Delta variant, I'm... not quite sure how I feel about that, heh. But we'll see.

It seems like there's lots of people in my area not taking the pandemic seriously, and it's so frustrating. Like, the government loosened restrictions for people who are fully vaccinated, but then everyone just starts dropping precautions altogether, vaccinated or not. >_> Like come on, it's not over yet, can we please try to be more cautious?
(And this is why I'm still going hermit mode)

People are giving me weird looks when I wear a mask anywhere. Like, y'all. The virus didn't stop existing all of a sudden. I got a "You don't have to wear that inside here, ma'am," from an old dude and I was like, "um, I think I will, thanks."

The dark side of me would say just lie and tell them you have covid or another respiratory illness to scare them off xD. I’m kidding of course. But in reality, people should just respect that you feel safer in a mask and leave you alone.

Believe me, I'm half-tempted to say, "I was exposed and still wanted to be out and about" 8D just to see them squirm. Or to say "two weeks quarantine was too long for me, I got bored" but then I think better of it and just walk away. I had Covid and it's no bueno. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy... and I certainly don't want it again. x-x; Even if the probability is extremely low, I'm going to keep being cautious.

"Hey PFA, you want to come to this big social gathering during a literal pandemic?"
For the last time, NO

This is sad for the players on the team that worked so hard and did their part getting vaccinated. www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/31711201/nc-state-college-world-series-due-covid-19-issues-vanderbilt-finalsIt’s unfortunate, but the important part of any team whether it’s sports or work or something else, is doing the things needed to keep the team healthy and ready to go. You are part of that team and your job is to ensure that the team is successful rather than just thinking about yourself. That includes getting vaccinated to protect others on the team. Unfortunately, not enough players were and they got COVID-19 and because they were unvaccinated, they could not play. And if you don’t have enough players… well you simply have to forfeit. This is a hard lessons that in order for things to go back to normal, everyone who is medically able needs to get vaccinated. (Or at least 80 percent for herd immunity.)

I am so, SO angry at my brother.
He is refusing to take the vaccine. He's fallen for the pseudoscience and scaremongering around it. We previously gave him an ultimatum: either he takes it or he moves out. He previously agreed to take it, but now he has decided to move out rather than vaccinate.
I am beyond furious. Scotland is in the middle of a third wave right now, with record high cases (though not hospitalisatons and deaths). He is reckless and irresponsible and there is nothing we can do about it.

I’ll leave it at that because I have a lot of choice words for those who are able but refuse to take the vaccine and I can’t repeat them here. My parents have friends and I know a couple of people who are staunchly anti-vaccine. It’s even worse when it’s family though because you want what’s best for them, but as you said, there’s not much you can do about it to convince those who are opposed and not just hesitant :/.

Geo 🇺🇦 🌻, thanks a lot. It is frustrating, and I have my own choice words for him which I cannot repeat here. He is very prone to falling for idiotic conspiracy theories and misinformation, so this is hardly surprising. We thought the threat of homelessness would be enough, but obviously not. It might seem harsh, but we cannot afford to take the risk of having an unvaccinated adult living with us because of younger sister. She is six, so she cannot recieve any vaccine. So we have to minimise risk of an adult bringing COVID into the house, and if he can't do it, he should not be here. In brighter news, Scotland has achieved 70% of it's total population vaccinated today, and 50% fully vaccinated. They are also opening walk-in centres for anybody who still does not have their first dose or has been 8 weeks post-first dose. I believe we're the first country in the world with a population over 1 million which has achieved this. So that's very cool. I do think we're about to hit a ceiling though. Wales has gotten about 75% of their total population and 90% of their adult population done, and they have hit a plateau. Figure we'll see this soon here too. Although combined with supply problems and a lot of young people having to self-isolate, vaccinations are far slower right now than anybody would like. >> Oh, and my grandad in Ukraine is now fully dosed. \o/ Good, because he is vulnerable. Grandma still has a bit to wait because she got AZ, but I think she should be okay too.
