So I went over to Firefox, and is there a reason why the top bar is vertical instead of horizontal on this browser?

One useful tidbit I extracted from the boards: clearing the cache and cookies may help. Wiped my Chrome history clean and Neopets is manageable for the time being.
My Firefox shows no weird vertical bars tho.
