Edna's Quests with Rabbit and June

Deep in the Haunted Woods is a tower. Its doorway juts open like a mouth, a pair of windows give the appearance of eyes, a face evilly staring at you. This is Edna’s Tower, home to the Green Zafara witch of Neopia.

Seems like a good place to score some candy, you figure

On the path there, however, you happen across two Neopets.

“Oh this is just so awful...” says one, a Rainbow Cybunny.

“I know. I can’t believe she changed things up this year,” says the other, a Christmas Zafara.

Curious, you ask what’s wrong.

“Kayaini and I thought we were going to Edna’s for an easy Halloween quest,” said the Cybunny, who looks to be in her preteens.

“We were just expecting her to give out items as per usual. We have items. But instead, she’s asking for the most unusual things,” continued the Zafara. She looks older, perhaps in her late teens? “Maybe Edna got bored of the usual stuff.”

Like what, you wonder.

“The person ahead of us was only asked to draw a Mortog. But we were stuck with three things to do instead.”

“It’s a bit much for Jill and I to handle in the time limit, and she always gets so mad when ‘pets don’t come through. You know how she can get.”

They both turn to you.

“Hey, here’s an idea,” says Jill, the Cybunny. “Between the three of us, we can each take a task. You are welcome to choose first out of the three options, because you’re doing us a favor.”

The Zafara, who you assume is Kayaini, follows with, “And as thanks, we can give you one of the items we had saved up for Edna.”

“So, what do you say?”

(You will be given three prompts to choose from. Some are roleplaying prompts, like kiss a Mortog. Some are prompts of things you must do, like write a poem about a Mortog. For bonus points, you can even do both; roleplay yourself writing about Mortogs, and actually write about them.

Note: Not all prompts will be about Mortogs. Probably.

Dressed up in a frilly pink dress, the beautiful Cure Snaw is intrigued by this offer. The original plan was to burn down Enda's Tower as payback for not getting the elusive avatar. But now this quest could help Snaw get a new Element Bottle and the Edna avatar!

Twirling the Healing Stick like a baton, Snaw says, "Of course I, the Earth's prettiest healer, shall accompany thee on this quest! We'll heal the Earth, do some quests and swipe Enda's shoes!"

A big-cat sized tuxedo cat sits listening intently, before nodding.

"Sure, I'd be happy to help out!" the cat proclaims telepathically. "And it might be fun. So what kind of quests do you got?"

The pair of them are startled by the telepathic voice. It’s Jill who spots the tuxedo cat first.

“Oh, that would be so helpful! There’s a real hodgepodge of chores to do. Such as predict the weather for Halloween. How are we supposed to do that?”

“I know, right?” Kayaini continues. “Heck, I’m magic and I can’t even do that. On a much more realistic note, Edna says she wants us to catch a Psimouse. She says there’s been a couple around her tower lately.”

“And finally,” says the rainbow Cybunny, “we’re supposed to write a paragraph about a character of our own. Not sure what that has to do with anything, but there you go.”

“Don’t feel overwhelmed, though. As we’ve said, you only have to do one. We can figure out the other stuff… I think… We'll figure out weather stuff I'm sure...”

Kayaini looks over at you. “Before we start, I just want to say: Love the dress. Perfectly magical.” She snaps her fingers. “Which reminds me, one of the things Edna wanted was to see a magical transformation sequence. I don’t know why, maybe for inspiration for other magic?”

Jill shrugs. “And she wants an Usuki poem. Not a doll, the item, but like a poem, like what you read, and it rhymes, except it doesn’t have to rhyme, and what’s the definition of a poem anyway? What kind of unreasonable request is that?”

“Oh, and if you really want to hear something unreasonable,” Kayaini goes on, “she said to ‘save the world’. As in the entire world. From what? We don’t know. We were just here to get an easy quest.”

“Remember you only have to do one of these,” says Jill. “We’ll… somehow muddle through the others.”

Cure Snaw thinks this over. Saving the world was a year-round affair, so that couldn't be done in one night. The Usuki poem was intriguing, as was the transformation sequence. Snaw wondered if Rabbit and June were nearby; their genius minds would be able to think up a great solution!

"So many choices, so little time," sighed Snaw. "But if Enda wants to se a show, I suppose the ever so generous Snaw can provide a lil transformation. Provided I get the avvie!"

Snaw transforms back into normal clothes; a gold dress with a fur stole. Then, Healing Stick in hand, Snaw proclaims, "PreSnaw Operation!"

[Lizica]

A very muddy Lizica joins the group dressed as a zombie Sherlock Holmes, or something. "I can sort of understand getting bored of the usual quests, but it does sound like Edna is asking a lot more this year. If you still need any help with quests, I'd be happy to help out some, too!" she offers brightly.

[Liou]

A somewhat humanoid fey entity with the dazzling rainbow carapace and the many scuttly appendages of a mantis shrimp marches up the tower.

"Wow." They shake their head, causing some of the segments of their body to click. "This is so not fetch of Edna. You two should start your own quests. Unique creations. Revolutionary. Innovative. Now tell me where your problems are so I can punch them with my murderclaws."

Jill notices the Fey first. “Are you a… Water Faerie? No, that’s not right… It doesn’t matter, it’s really cool, you’re all rainbow-y like me! Anyway, yeah, maybe we should start our own quests. Right after we get the avatar. Kayaini and I need that avatar.”

“We really do need it. I hope it’s not too late to get going,” said Kayaini.

“Yeah,” agreed Jill. “Oh, we don’t even know how punching would help. We need to ‘Find Saskori.’ Is that a type of herb?”

Just then, a blue-grey Cybunny girl walks past. She seems serious about something.

“Not to mention she wants us to make a potion recipe,” Kayaini whined. “That’s her job, not our job. Why, Edna, why? Just because I’m a magical girl doesn’t mean I know how to make potions.”

“And finally,”says Jill, “she wants ideas for a new avatar image. Says the old one doesn't reflect herself anymore. I don’t think it has to be drawn, just pitch an idea. But I mean, why us? Why not people who do that sort of thing?”

“Don’t feel overwhelmed, I know it’s a lot,” Kayaini quickly said. “Just pick one and we’ll figure out the others.”

Kayaini smiled at the muddied Sherlock Holmes… or was she a zombie? It was hard to tell with the mud. “Thank you so much. We really appreciate it. I hope you’re alright there, dear, it looks like you took a nasty fall in the mud.

“You know, you look like quite the detective,” she went on. “You think you can find Edna’s missing spoon? I tried giving her a replacement, but no, she wants that one spoon.”

“I can’t make heads or tails of the next one,” said Jill. “It’s simply ‘List Item 2.’ Like, what does that mean?”

“She also wants a sketch of herself,” Kayaini continued. “That’s more reasonable, in my opinion, but I have two left paws, I can’t draw. I don’t think it has to be perfect, at least.”

“Remember you only have to do one of these,” Jill added. “We can, uh, probably get through the other two.”

Jill stands in awe at Snaw’s transformation.

“Wow, that was really pretty!” Kayaini cheered, clapping her hands. “I love seeing transformations like that.”

“Enda is sure to accept that!” Jill beamed. “In the meanwhile, here’s an item for you.”

“You never know what you’re going to get with one of these,” said Jill, “but it’s sure to be fun!”

“I hope you get something awesome!” Kayaini happily said. “As for us…” She looks around the area and spots a crushed up Neocola can on the ground. The Zafara walks over to it, picks it up, and throws it in a recycling bin. “Recycling helps save the world, right?”


“Oh, that just leaves the poem,” Jill said. “Uh…

“...It rhymes, that makes it a poem, right?” wonders Jill.

“If she’s asking for all these weird things from us, I don’t think she can be picky,” commented Kayaini.

Cure Snaw twirls, showing off the frilly skirt. The poetry challenge will be a breeze after Snaw was done twirling! Snaw is thrilled by the Usukicon Y12 Goodie Bag. The bag was stylish enough to be paired with the rest of Snaw's ensemble.

"I'll need a bit to think up a kira yaba poem for you Edna servants," says Snaw. "Tell EDNA I demand an avvie for my poetic genius."

The cat tilts their head, thinking for a moment. "...Now, while you would think I would be up for the task of catching a Psimouse, being a cat right now and all... I probably still could, I just don't want to compared to the others. I do have characters I could write about, but who knows what Edna will do with that. I could think if something, but it sounds like you're having the most trouble with the weather... Never fear!"

A tone in the cat shifts, and they suddenly sound much more excitable.

"You asked just the right person for this job! Now, mind, she only asked you to predict the weather, so you could probably get away with saying anything and have it be wrong, as she didn't specify it had to be a correct prediction, but where's the fun in that? I'm gonna give it my best amateurish shot!"

The cat pauses, then looks up. "...Did she say where she wanted the weather predicted? Would it be here, or something else? I do have maps for elsewhere! For instance, where the brains behind me lives, there'll be some low temperatures moving in, and while the skies will start to clear up, it looks like it'll be overcast. For your area though, well..."

They look around the Haunted Woods. "It... kind of looks like it always does. And will still look like this tomorrow. So I'm guessing next Halloween in the Haunted Woods, you'll have temperate temperatures and clear skies, with the exception of maybe some high thin clouds to float ominously in front of the moon from time to time."

[Lizica]

Lizica smiles back at Kayaini. "Thanks for your concern--but I'm not falling any more, so comparatively, I'm feeling pretty good at the moment!" She doesn't further elaborate, and obliviously turns her attention to Kayaini and Jill's quest problem. While only dressed as a detective, she does her best to channel her inner police sketch artist as she pulls a damp notebook from her bag and listens, taking notes all the while.

"Edna's missing a special spoon? That's awfully particular," she murmurs. "But then, I've definitely had my own fair share of running out of spoons on difficult days. (Would she appreciate a self-care day?) Did she give a description of what she wants, or say why your replacement spoon wasn't right?

"And 'List Item 2'? Your guess is as good as mine about that. Honestly, could be that Edna just didn't finish filling in her quest list. Or is it a trick question? Is 'list' a verb? Like, we have to list item 2? Which in this list is itself 'List Item 2'? Unless it's a different list?" Lizica frowns, squiggles something elaborate in her notebook, then circles something else. "...Or is it a reference to something? If only we had proper answers! I've probably had enough of mysterious underground tunnels tonight, but if a bunch of small cats led us into one to solve codes and reveal secrets... Augh, there're so many things it could be! Sorry, I'm not sure, who knows."

She finishes rambling, squints at her notebook, and ponders while adding a few more lines. "...Well, at the very least, I think I can help with the last one, though Edna might have wanted something more flattering. (She really should take that self-care day.)"

The mantis shrimp fey lets out a squeal of delight as the blue-grey Cybunny walks past!

"Oh, Saskori is such a cool kid! A good bean of a monster tamer! I've been wanting to find her for an autograph and a selfie for ages! But she seems so very busy. I should run after some other time. Wow, if Edna cannot even come up with potions anymore, she really does need that self-care!"

The mantis shrimp pulls out (of thin air) a notebook and scribbles a little. "Edna's new avatar should definitely be all about self-care. But it should keep with her thematic colour, green. So! It ought to depict Edna with green goo and cucumbers over her eyes. With text saying... Self-Care. Instead of potions, maybe she could start getting into lotions."

The fey entity does appear to have a few more ideas, but they keep glancing back towards where the Cybunny left. "Excuse me, I think I might need to take a little peek at what a famous monster tamer is up to. Hope you get the rest of the quests done!" They dash, a trail of rainbow glitter in their wake.
