Huh, so Darcadia (from Island Builders) is mentioned.

It's a shame the event is so awful this year, as it will forever tar Island Builders which is a decent game all things considered -- just like Legends and Letters with Lyra and the Lost Heirloom.

What's the drama going on with CC this year?

Bit shocked they did that with the snowballs, but kinda suspected they'd do something like that.
Good thing I have a bunch more junk.

I think it's the lack of a perks shop, the high chance of losing a ton of NP on the mystery cap things, and the sticky snowballs...
I for one am getting 2 stamps and calling it a day. :T

I'll probably get one of everything, and then caps. And 2 stamps.

Well, there's a response regarding the controversy on the official TNT board. It's a bit lengthy, hence the spoiler Hi everyone,
As many of you know, Charity Corner was released this year with a few changes. We wanted to take a moment to talk about these changes, as well as address the concerns we've heard from the users since we launched the event yesterday.
The first thing we'd like to talk about is the removal of perks. During last year's Charity Corner, the site encountered some technical difficulties as a result of their implementation. This year, our dev team has been focusing their main efforts on converting the site in preparation for the end of Flash. This dev team is also responsible for working on all site events, including Charity Corner. In the interest of directing efforts towards the site's conversion and to avoid unforeseen site bugs and user difficulties due to perks, they were removed from the event.
We'd also like to address the issue of the sticky snowball items. This adjustment was made as a necessary balance change; the Charity Corner donation items are intended to be worth the same amount that it takes to obtain them, similar to the value of other snowball items on the site. The team never intended to intentionally obstruct the event due to this balance change, and we'd like to apologize for any miscommunication this change may have caused.
We've heard your comments and concerns regarding Charity Corner this year, and we'd like to make this right. Adjustments will be made to the prize shop; prices will be reduced on all prizes, and you'll be able to claim a free gift of 500 points to use in whichever purchase you wish. The price changes will be rolling out immediately, and those 500 points will be coming your way soon.
We know we've let you down this year, but we truly do value the community and want to thank you for keeping an open dialogue with us. Our team is doing its best to ensure the future of Neopets, and we hope you'll stick with us as we work to modernize the site approaching the end of 2020.

I can kinda understand what they're saying--the perks were buggy as hell last year--but I'd think that whatever fixes they implemented last year would still be in place, unless some of the bugs just never got resolved...? Was really hoping for the reduced-scores-for-game-avatars one, since the remaining games I need avatars for are all ones I'm utterly terrible at.
I'm not too mad about the snowballs, even though I absolutely hoarded them. Sometimes you make an investment that doesn't pay out, that's Neopets.
In any case I kinda wish I'd held off buying the stamp until after the price got halved xD That's 2500 points down the drain. Didn't expect them to cut prices throughout the entire shop.

Also, the majority of perks were not even buggy -- and the only ones they had to put in considerable effort towards were ones that they advertised before actually investigating if they could even implement. Certainly I can't think of a reason why the bank/stocks perks can't be reused as they themselves are just copies of the obelisk boons, which have worked without issues for years.
Equally, the change to Snowballs is *not* for the reason given. If it was about normalising all items there's no reason whatsoever to reduce stickies to 1 point and leave all the other high rarity junk from dailies as is, *including icy snowballs from the same healing springs shop at 6 points*. It isn't about normalising at all, it was about nerfing a single item for honestly no good reason.
As for the action taken, until they up the % of the rare rewards in the top tier capsule, no reduction in cost is going to matter. The sheer amount of useless items in the prize pool makes the capsules pointless in their current form.
It's nice to have them say something so quickly, but what they said wasn't good enough really.

If they're concerned about the flashpocalypse, would it be possible to have the perks available for you to purchase, but they will only go into effect AFTER the flashpocalypse?
Side note: I'm finally at 1000 points. At least they decreased the point values but I'm not going to take my chances with the capsules.

I think part of the problem is the communication, or the lack thereof. Charity Corner was announced in New Features a couple of weeks ago, so they could have announced the changes before the event was released or just after instead of us finding out the hard way what those changes were. If JSN had been proactive instead of reactive, we might have had a different outcome. The apology letter is just proof that they were just reacting to the negative response.
I don't think communication or transparency has been their strong point, which is a bit problematic.

... Okay then.
Not really sure why this a thing now.
I'm not going back to inventory donating, that's for sure. That's a nightmare to do. Hopefully they mean it when they say temporary.

Not sure what my plans are going to be for this year. After I donate all my non-r90+ (and some special) items I'm probably going to have enough points and more to purchase all the items in the prize shop. I guess I'll maybe start gambling with the capsule that has a chance (and by that I mean a 1% chance, WHY?!) of getting a r90+ item. After that, don't know, maybe keep my r90+ for until next year.
MINI-RANT: Though the capsules REALLY annoy me. Like, just make it so the cheapest one gives r1-79, average gives r80-89, and the highest r90-100. Why are you messing around with percentages? This could have been the compromise we all wanted, just a way for us to exchange points for something similar to the original Charity Corner. But no, you got to ruin it with a stupid mechanic which feels you got off a gacha game! Ugh.
