When I was in high school, I was in the habit of carrying at least one small notebook with me whether in or between classes, during field trips, or during extracurricular activities. It was especially important to me since I was part of our school paper. I've saved some of these notebooks despite them containing embarrassing stuff like hormonal teenage poetry and other such travesties, and I remembered that I wrote bits of my very first published short story, The Naughtiest Faerie, in one of these notebooks (I had marked it with my year level and section, too, before crossing it out and changing it when I moved up). Images behind the spoiler tags are large; they were just taken with my phone. The final draft turned out slightly different from what I had written in the notebook. But that's not all. I also found a snippet for the beginning of another short story entitled, Before the Dance. This was the time when, being fascinated by the Court Dancer's character, I wanted to be one of the cool kids who wrote stories about her and gave her a name of my choosing. I only wrote the intro, but it also turned out differently once I opened up MS Word. When you think about it, this little notebook was like the springboard for my NT career. And it is, as you can imagine, already over a decade old.
