Recap:
After a hunt to acquire meat for the party and hide for the centaurs to work, the party settle in for an evening with the centaurs. Where are Kieran and Selwyn? Eh, they’ll probably be back at some stage.
Elsewhere, Selwyn and Kieran re-appear in total darkness. Selwyn is disoriented. One minute he was following a clearly agitated Kieran out of the dragon’s cottage, the next they are both facing a dark maned centaur- much larger than Selwyn- with the rest of the party nowhere to be seen.
The alarmed centaur demands answers. Kieran doesn’t help matters by insisting the information is ‘classified.’ Selwyn eventually manages to convince the centaur, Plutonea's brother Inandros, to fetch the rest of the party to confirm they know each other.
Kieran explains that he was in a hurry and so tried to bring the whole party closer to the Grasping Woods. Unfortunately he was not careful enough and only brought the pair of them a day or so into the future. The party chastise Kieran for his hasty actions, pointing out that they were heading towards the Grasping Woods anyway.
In the morning, Selwyn flirts a little with Inandros. They go on their very first date and share a nice fruity beverage!
After tying up some loose ends and preparing for the day the party farewell the centaurs. After some discussion, they opt to make for Ur Zaihar. It is only a little out of the way, and it will give them some time to rest out of the woods and away from potential Arcaito nonsense.
There is also debate over the fate of Umdias. Amani believes they should just kill him and be done with it. Selwyn reasons they should at the very least let him go his own way- no reason to keep dragging him along! Umdias himself points out that he doesn’t know his way home from here. Also, Khamet promised to teach him about farming. Farming will be a much easier way to feed his family than hunting, and so he’s keen! Khamet reminds the group that he is looking to change forest giant culture from the inside. Also, he wants to buy toys for Umdias’ daughters for some reason.
It is decided that Umdias will travel with the party for now, but when they head back north they will send him home.
All this talk of family doesn't go unnoticed by Kieran. In a quiet moment, Kieran confesses to Tally that he has a wife who was imperilled by his mark. He needs to find this man to ensure his wife’s safety.
The party are passing through the forest when Selwyn hears voices nearby. There are at least three of them, arguing about which way to go. Selwyn turns into a small harmless animal to take a closer look, with Amani stealthily following behind, while the others wait back by the track.
Selwyn sees four figures: a wizened humanoid with two small horns, a humanoid figure whose body is covered head to toe save the tip of a pointed nose, and a cyclops with a man-headed bird riding on its shoulder. They are clearly lost. Although cautious at first, Selwyn eventually approaches the figures to find out what they’re looking for. Amani sneaks back to the rest of the party to update them- but the bird creature realises someone else is there. He is wary when they don’t reveal themselves.
Selwyn learns the group are travelling to a place the wizened fey describes as being something of a day spa for fey. A magic mushroom circle where they can relax and replenish their magic! Selwyn returns to the party with the fey, and learns their names: Cadual the wizenend fey, Braxley the bird-like harpy, Axit the hidden figure, and Olibrius the cyclops.
The party figure out what direction they should go in, but the fey squad are not about to set off just yet.
Axit recognises that Amani is a follower of Night’s Peace. It becomes clear this little group consists of nature fey aligned with Arcaito. Amani and Axit talk, and Axit makes it clear they have no intention of getting caught up in their master’s antics. Amani and the party have been good to these fey, and that’s what matters.
Axit tells Amani that they used to be a night fey. That role didn’t feel right, and so they became a forest fey of Arcaito’s domain. The sunlight still harms them, a lingering effect of their original role, and so they cover their body when they travel to avoid injury.
Tally asks Cadual how to be a fey. She has been a humanoid her whole life, how is she supposed to adjust to her new fey nature? Cadual has never been in the position of needing to help a fey who used to be humanoid- besides hags, who are sometimes cursed humanoids, becoming a fey when you were once something else is very rare. However, Cadual says he will write Tally a pamphlet describing what he feels she most needs to know. He will give it to her when their paths next cross.
Their conversation concluded, Axit presses a blue pebble into Amani’s hand. They say it will help protect Amani from fey threats. In mechanical terms, it grants a +2 bonus to saving throws against fey attacks and abilities.
Eyeing Tally, Axit mentions that there is at least one drow in the Grasping Woods. He has been there a long time and Axit isn’t quite sure how he got there, but it’s possible Tally could make contact with him if they were so inclined.
The party and their new fey friends go their separate ways. Eventually it is time for the party to make camp. The night passes uneventfully- for everyone, that is, except Tally.
In her dreams Tally is once more in the presence of the Shadow Queen. A mysterious door appears, conjured by the deity herself. She doesn’t know where it leads. Tally doesn’t know where it leads.
Tally opens that door.
