I just have one extremely important* question that is of absolute, utmost importance. Was Basil wearing his gaudy fake beard during the entire conflict? OH NOOOOOO I DIDN'T SPECIFY HIM TAKING IT OFF SO I GUESS IT'S CANON On the one hand, I am totally willing to concede the idea that maybe Basil took it off at some point, for the sake of mental images and taking the moment seriously. On the other hand, forgetting you have a garish green gaudy outfit on during dramatic and insightful character moments is peak Disaster Party.

The beard isn't necessarily garish, just clearly fake and maybe with a few too many decorations. xD

Session 53 will be on the 1st of May. See you folks then!! Now, on with the recapping. =D EuroAtlantis Session 52 Key Notes:*The party finish off the bearded devils, but Tynestra escapes. *The party interrogate Faith the succubus, with Amani eventually killing her. *Moon reveals that her pack was slain by vampires. EuroAtlantis Session 52 Recap: One Good ReasonEarly morning on the 14th of Stone finds the adventurers fighting off a fiendish ambush, led by a red-winged fiend named Tynestra. Said fiend is currently retreating into the sky, while the final two bearded devils continue assaulting the party. They are soon cut down, but Tynestra is still getting away. Tally illuminates her with a dancing lights spell, but she is soon out of range of all but Basil. Basil takes aim with his shortbow. While he strikes the fiend, it is not quite enough to take her down. His next attack misses, and then Tynestra is gone from sight. It seems that for now the devil roams free.
The party are still unsure why Tynestra targeted Khamet specifically. The paladin has a plan. He asks Asariel to drop banishment on the grievously wounded succubus, so that the party can question her. As soon as Asariel ends the spell, the succubus reappears, cringing away from the party in fear. Meallan successfully casts charm monster, causing her to view him as a friend, while Anthony subjects her to a zone of truth and Pippi conjures a wall of force around the fiend.
The party question the succubus. They learn that her name is Faith, and that the incubus is her brother. The siblings carry out contracts for more powerful fiends to gain a measure of protection. Tynestra recruited them to help deal with Khamet, as he is a paladin from a dangerous fiendslaying order, and is presently far away from others of his order and thus presumably easier to slay. Faith has heard about the Spider Demon’s death at the hands of this party, although isn’t sure how to respond when the party point out that this demon was hurting people. Faith also indicates that she did not want to attack the party with her flames, but that she was compelled to do so.
When Meallan asks in Infernal if Faith knows Will, she says that she doesn’t recognise the name. Faith suggests that she may know him by another, or by reputation. When further prompted, it transpires she has heard of an incubus associated with flies. Faith believes he used to work for the Burning Hunger.
Tally asks Faith if she knows anything about caring for baby demons, specifically evils. The succubus says that, while she doesn’t have personal experience caring for such creatures, she believes that they only need a steady source of whatever emotion or attitude it is they feed on. Faith is suspicious as to why Tally is asking her about this, but Tally doesn’t give her a clear answer.
Khamet tells Faith that if she promises not to corrupt any more souls, he’ll let her go. She tries to reply, but no sound comes out. Khamet says that if she can’t agree to this one simple thing, she needs to die. Clearly panicking, Faith points out that it’s not so simple. The energy given off by corrupting souls- souls being drawn away from their associated deity- is what succubi like her need to survive. Faith describes it as feeling like a pit within her, but not quite a stomach, that she can fill with this energy. She tries to argue that it is less evil when done only to evil souls, but to no avail. Moon further recalls that if succubi go too long without feeding in this manner, they become colder and less emotional.
The party discuss whether or not to kill Faith. Basil doesn’t understand why murder is even being considered, and gives Khamet the saddest eyes he can manage, but the paladin reminds him that the last person Basil freed was Juniper- the halfling druid who set fire to Ur Deyn and never showed any remorse. Meallan suggests sparing Faith in exchange for a favour some time in the future. When Tally recommends a swift death and Khamet draws the Osseus Metallicum, Faith panics and flees to the ethereal plane, although Pippi explains that the wall of force extends into the ethereal plane and will prevent her escape. Amani uses blink to reach the ethereal plane, and sees Faith still huddled within the energy sphere. Back on the material plane, the party are far from unified, but Khamet tells Pippi to drop the wall of force. Pippi complies, putting Faith at Amani’s mercy. Faith tries to flee and Amani calls after her, demanding one good reason why they shouldn’t kill her.
Out of options, and even as she flees into the sky, Faith tries to humanise herself in the eyes of her adversary. She mentions that she loves the colours of sunset, that she adores cupcakes, and that she wants to see her brother again. But Amani has made up their mind, and sends a chaos bolt hurtling her way. It resolves into a powerful burst of psychic energy and easily catches the succubus. Faith plummets to the ground.
“Dead,” is all Amani says when they return to the material plane.
Meallan is shaken by Amani’s cold demeanour. He mentions that it reminds him of himself, not so long ago. Amani doesn’t see what the big deal is, as Faith was sent to hurt their friend. That aside, she was a fiend, and fiends exist only to bring harm to others. Although scared, Wisp climbs out of Meallan’s pocket and stands facing Amani, reminding them that he is here too and can hear this conversation. He then retreats back into Meallan’s pocket, where he hides for the rest of the conversation, too afraid to face the party even when prompted by Meallan.
Moon has been quiet for some time. She eventually reveals that when she was young, her whole pack was slaughtered by vampires. She does not want to lose another pack, this Disaster Party. Meallan can relate- he mentions that for him, it was a fiend.
Meallan confronts Khamet about his behaviour. Khamet reiterates that if they let Faith go free, she would only have hurt more people, as fiends are inherently evil. Meallan asks Khamet if this is what he tells himself to ‘make it easier’, but Khamet insists that it is a simple fact, like the sky being blue. Meallan mentions Will in an effort to make Khamet reconsider his stance, but Khamet retorts that the incubus is only alive so long as he is useful. The two part ways, as usual nowhere near seeing eye-to-eye.
Basil has been more than usually quiet. When approached by Meallan, Basil takes the firbolg aside and admits that he wants to go home. Meallan begs him to stay, and Basil agrees to do so for now. But there is somebody in his past he needs to make amends with, and the violence of tonight has brought it to the forefront of his mind. Clearly upset by the night's events, Basil mentions that he feels like Meallan is the only good person left in the party, as opposed to when they first met and he was the one Basil was most afraid of.
Meanwhile Tally approaches Khamet, who aside from his brief exchange with Meallan has been quiet and reserved. Tally tells Khamet that it’s okay to feel conflicted emotions, because it was a really emotional decision they faced today. Preventing harm to others is an important thing to do, but if you don’t feel the weight of your choices when the lives of others are involved, then you’re just as bad as your enemies.
When prompted by other members of the party, Amani retrieves Faith’s body. While on the ethereal plane, Amani asks Night’s Peace if they did the right thing. The archfey can’t answer this for them- Amani must decide for themself. However, she admits that aspects of recent events concern her, otherworldly being that she is. Unsettled in spite of their typically almost supernatural calm, Amani returns to the material plane. Khamet recites some prayers from his homeland and the party bury Faith. Moon finishes the job by carving Faith’s name into a rock and placing it atop her grave.
Afterwards Moon and Tally examine the bearded devils, and are unable to work out whether the spiky beards are still dangerous to touch now the creatures are dead. Pippi tries to reassure the party that they did the right thing in killing Faith but, while this helps Meallan somewhat, tensions still run high. Although the party didn’t see them go, Amani has left the camp. Khamet has already settled down to sleep, after some time spent praying to Anhur. However, for Khamet as much as for the rest of the party, it is a restless night, with Amani Meallan and Anthony all waking still tired and exhausted. But for the start of next session, we shall wind the clock back a little and examine more of those early morning interactions, in the wake of Faith’s death.

Session 53 Key Notes:*Asariel comforts Amani after the incident with Faith. *The party conclude that Tynestra is most likely licking her wounds down in Hell. *The party sight the purple-haired human woman, and Tally later speaks with her at the town of Moonstone. *The party meet the crystal dragonborn. *Tally acquires his first souvenir, intended for Arim. *Khamet has a Drunken Conversation with Amani. Session 53 Recap: Praise the Great Crystal Dragon! After curing Pippi of poison with lay on hands, Khamet returns to the tiny hut and falls asleep to a lullaby from Tally. The others remain outside. It isn’t long before Asariel mentions that Amani disappeared some time ago, and that they are worried about their child. Pippi and Moon opt to join the archmage’s search for Amani, while Meallan Anthony and Basil remain behind with Crystal.
With Moon’s knack for tracking, the trio soon find Amani, sleepy and staggering about as they try to focus on their bond with Night’s Peace. Moon and Pippi hang back as Asariel approaches, kneeling down in front of Amani and reaching for their hands. Although reluctant at first, Amani ultimately allows Asariel to take Amani’s hands in their own.
Amani wants to stop feeling their current conflicted emotions. Asariel says that these feelings are to be expected, because a big thing just happened, and it is good to be able to Feel. They suggest Amani will feel better after some sleep. If they still feel the same way in the morning, then Amani can do what they must and their parent won’t stop them. Amani slowly leans closer to Asariel until they are eventually resting against their ren’s shoulder. Asariel gently rocks back and forth, and Amani falls asleep.
The group return to camp and the rest of the night passes uneventfully. In the morning, they rejoin their driver and continue their journey, passing through the village of Eastfield without rest on their way to the mining town of Moonstone. Tensions are high, and Basil in particular still unhappy with decisions made that previous night. Pippi asks Basil what he thinks should have been done. Basil says that he doesn’t know- but it shouldn’t have been that.
Some time is spent considering Tynestra, the one that got away. Moon has sufficient knowledge of fiends to understand that, wounded as she was, she has probably returned to Hell, where it will be easier for her to recover. Only time will tell if she will continue pursuing Khamet.
As the party near Moonstone, they pass a human woman, perhaps sixty years of age, with silvering purple hair. She watches the party pass, running shimmering red strings between her fingers as she does, which are noticed only by Khamet and Tally. Khamet opens up his senses, and is reassured to see that she is neither undead nor a fiend. The woman follows behind the carriage at a distance as it continues towards Moonstone.
Arriving in Moonstone in the late afternoon, the party disembark outside an inn called the Donkey Trough. They have already noticed several dragonborn with crystalline scales, and Anthony asks one of them to go drinking with him. With Amani, Pippi, Khamet and Moon joining in, they enter the establishment in search of booze.
Inside a human woman is lighting a candle at a small shrine to Torvmar, the regional deity and a protector of Lustross more broadly. Meanwhile Anthony gets chatting with his new dragonborn friend, who is of the Vraantel- a clan of crystal dragonborn based in and around Moonstone. This individual, Vraantel Nyzek, sees a being in his dreams which he calls the Great Crystal Dragon. However, Nyzek has never met a dragon in real life, and is excited to hear of Ruhnzolarr. He calls over one of his clanmates, Vraantel Zir, and the duo further chat with Anthony.
Meanwhile Meallan is wandering the village with Crystal trailing behind. When Meallan asks Crystal why he is following him, the troll points out that he can’t understand Common and so feels most comfortable around Meallan, who can speak Giant with him. He is also confused about what happened at camp the previous night, with the fiend attack and high tensions and eventual execution. Meallan admits he doesn’t fully understand either. However, this village is famed for its moonstones, and to cheer up Crystal he steals the troll a couple from a nearby stall, since Crystal lost most of his shiny rock collection when he fled the underground caverns he previously called home.
Tally buys a moonstone for Arim, since the young elf asked for a cool rock as a souvenir from Lustross. Tally heads towards the village entrance to see if he can find the human woman from the road- and there she is, standing just beyond the archway.
Tally introduces himself, but the woman gives no name in return. However, after some stranger than normal small-talk, she locks eyes with Tally and says that she will only say this once: anyone can take up a weapon and be an adventurer, but true heroes are rare. She believes Tally could be just such a hero. The woman then drops her gaze, turns, and walks away in the direction from which she came.
Amani goes to buy a moonstone, but gets distracted by a young human boy asking if they’re an angel. They explain that they’re a sorcerer, which leads to the boy and two other children demanding to see magic, thoroughly distracting said sorcerer from their task. Amani learns that in Lustross- as far as these children understand it- magic is either the kind gained from devotion to a deity, or a similar kind based on this. Amani’s take on magic is thus very new and exciting to these children!
Meanwhile Basil is out and about, seeing what’s good. He spies some false beards, a bit nicer than the one he bought in Eldershore. He finds one in his natural shade and manages to swipe it without drawing attention to himself.
Back at the tavern, a drunk Khamet becomes increasingly rambling. He compliments Pippi on her sharp sea elf teeth, and talks about what a Strong and Decisive paladin he is! Amani takes him outside and, acknowledging that he’s pretty darn drunk, asks him if he thinks they’re an executioner. It turns out that 'the executioner' was one of the cards drawn during Amani’s tarokka reading, and this in conjunction with Faith’s recent demise has been playing on their mind. Khamet doesn’t see them that way, and eventually gets to talking about his own issues. He couldn’t save his friend Sabef from being killed, and so now he needs to be stronger to protect others. Khamet continues to insist that he is a Strong Decisive Paladin, but his heart clearly isn’t in it. It is clear the situation with Faith has shaken them both.
Eventually the door opens, light and chatter spilling out into the street. Asariel and Tally have come to check on those outside, with Meallan not far behind. Khamet joins Tally and Meallan in returning indoors, but Amani hangs back. Seeing that they’re not ready to go back inside just yet, Asariel joins them in stargazing.
Early the next morning, the party return to their carriage and set out for the final leg of their journey. They arrive in Argentian at sunset on the 15th of Stone.
