You got one? Multiple ones? Perhaps any character designs you're tinkering with right now that's evading you with its odd details or demands? This question crossed my mind today, and it turned out to be trickier than first anticipated because I have a good handful of weird designs from an old monster story. If I had to really pick one, though, this is probably what I'd say mine is: Giant crystal dinosaur with front spider-ish(?) legs. Her name is Lauren. (i should make a neater ref with color to show off all her true glory. it's just been a while since i've drawn her because lol that's a lot of crystals, even for me.) And even if you're not an artist but still have an out-there character design you want to share, feel free! Who knows, you may just end up with a pic of them in the end :3

I actually like the design! Could be a special monster from an MMO or something wonder if this creature's evolution decided at something point that no, four legs is no enough, but TEN? YES THAT SOUNDS JUST RIGHT

Ahaha, hm. In spite of everything, my weirdest is probably still lil old Void, my character from the Tapestry of Horror tournament. (Beware- ooold art) This was his reference by the end of his story. shinkoryu14.deviantart.com/art/Void-Reference-UPDATED-213489603This was the one closer to the beginning. shinkoryu14.deviantart.com/art/OLD-Void-and-Revenant-Ref-173396574He ended up being kind of a mascot for me for a long time because people found him so memorable. XD He got compared to, at various points in time, a fox, a dog, and a lynx, because nobody could quite pin down what he was "based" on- because he wasn't based on any IRL animals, lol. Though honorable mention goes to the character I designed for a design-the-doctor contest for the same tournament Void was for. XD She didn't get picked, but. Worth noting. 18 year old me had weird taste in character design. >.> Yes. yes that is a giant flea on her back. X'D

Zoey Haha, thanks! Lool, I don't know what made her, whether it be evolution or something else x3 The story idea she's from has so little detail to it, but the basic idea is that there are all these creatures living in the same place, and they're all (for the most part) one of a kind. Who knows why or what their purpose is, but lol, gives me some leeway in defying nature's logic x3 But haha, yeah, she probably needs all those considering xD They're basically just the talons on her feet, but with the way they're designed, she has to walk on them like stilts xD Whenever I imagine her walking I can't help but hear the sound of nails on a chalkboard x3; At least she can make up for that with her crystals, which she can move to act like a wind chime. Shinko Ooh, that's a neat one, especially his updated form =o Cool that he can shape and stretch his tail like that! Initially, my mind does want to pin him as canine, but I can see little bits of each of those animals in the design. If it wasn't an irl creature that inspired him, was there a different influence to his appearance, or was it just a vision that came? And ooh, plague doctor design! Lol, I'm curious the story behind that flea xD

Oh, forgot to say, that many-legged crystal critter is actually quite cute, in my book. =D I approve! Twillie Tagging to avoid double-posting, Void's design was predicated on the notion of making him look as wildly out of place in his setting as feasible. XD Said setting was a circus of fear al la Creature Feature's "Greatest Show Unearthed" and here you have this timid fluffy red thing wandering around with all the horror monsters. So I wanted him to be small, cute, and unimposing, but just alien enough to be a tiny bit unsettling- a hint of the darker aspects of his character that are explained in that start-of-the-story reference. I don't entirely remember what the initial visual inspiration was, it's been a while, but I'm pretty sure the idea for his powers at least came from the Luffy character in One Piece. Out of nostalgia I decided to draw redrawing Void, just to see how he'd come out in my current style. I kid you not, there was a time I could've drawn this dude in five minutes, I'd done it so many times. This took me a little longer, but his design still came pretty easily from muscle memory. XD XD Also there is no story to the flea. Legit Yersinia is just designed to evoke imagery of the Black Death, so rat infested flea.

I've put together some strange monster concepts over the years; usually you can get some pretty good mileage from combining different types of animals in unique ways. Easily the weirdest one I ever drew was this guy: ...though uh, I'm probably not keeping that one, lol.

Finally got around to drawing these, but I also wanted to give honorable mentions to the competition Lauren had (and who knows, maybe these are actually stranger than her). These as well are from that kinda story idea I had that was basically just an excuse to make up random monster designs. Wings for hands... Aka what is wing anatomy, wait what do you mean wings can't actually bend that way? (she's a fictional creature, I can do what I want!) This is Tiffany, and I imagine she's something of the leader of the group as she's the most extroverted of all the monsters I made up x3 Aside from her hand-wings, other ideas for her design was for her eyes to be large enough and her nose low enough to make it look like her head is downturned. No real reason for that, "why not" is the logic I used for all these designs x3 She can also inject poison with the talons on her feet, but only when she presses them together to create one big talon. No idea if she can actually fly or not; I used to say she could, but now I'm not sure if I can allow those wings to do such a thing x3 ...or hands for wings? (i'd definitely prefer the former) Well, "wings" considering he can't actually do anything with those things. Not even move them, they just sort of flop around with him. He doesn't have a name, but this little guy was basically the genesis for my whole monster story idea. I have no idea how I came up with this, I guess my 10-12 year-old brain was just in an experimental mood xD Other little things about him: he's built kinda like a dog, but can bleat like a goat. His feet are turned outward, but he can still walk on them fine. I promise his life is not the pain that it looks x3; (he's just a scaredy cat with everything)

TwillieThat's actually not too far off. The "spines" in bat wings, for example, are actually phalanges (ie the evolutionary analog to fingers). x)

Moni Yeah, I knew that wings kinda translated into hands and arms, it's stuff like the balling them into fists and twisting them back and forth like human arms that I question xD I sort of follow the "Pinocchio" logic with her wings: draw him a boy first, then we'll make him a puppet after. Draw them as arms first, then we'll make them wings after x3
