In the past, there have been events in the forum that are called "warm fuzzies," or at least events of a similar name. These are like secret santa exchanges except that everyone is a secret santa and everyone gives and receives gifts to and everyone else, and the gifts aren't actually gifts, they're just compliments.
Confused? Let me give you the run-down. Basically, what happens is that the showrunner, the wizard of Oz, the women behind the curtain (me and Ginz ❤ ) gather a list of all the people that want to partake in this event. Then, after maybe two or so weeks of gathering users, that list is closed. Every user on that list then writes a compliment for every other user on that list. You'd be given around 1.5 months to do this.
Then, you send those compliments to me, Moni , and I remove your names from the messages, organize them, and deliver the compliments to their intended recipients in one go! So you have a day filled with anonymous warm fuzzies; hence the "secret santa" part of my butchered analogy.
So if we get 100 participants, you'd have to write 99 compliments, and you'd get 99 compliments and the end of the event! Pretty cool, right?
Right.
Previous warm fuzzies were held in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, and 2016. Look at those if you like forum history, or if you want a better explanation. This thread is meant to be nearly identical to the 2016 Warm Fuzzy event headed by Celestial and Kozma .
Now, before you start freaking out about what you're supposed to say, because I certainly was, it's nice to know that our predecessors have left us a few solid guidelines for the compliments we write to everybody else. I will paraphrase them here.
1. Warm fuzzy compliments should be substantial. That means no "you're cool I guess" or "you r sexy" type comments. "You're funny" is a little better, but still not exactly what we're aiming for. Try to make your fuzzies specific--you think a person is funny, but why do you think they're funny? Something like "Dear X, I like your Y because Z" is more in the ballpark. As a general rule of thumb, try to show and not tell. Be thoughtful.
2. Warm fuzzy compliments should be positive. They're warm fuzzies, not ascerbic boiling fuzzies.
3. If you don't know a person enough to write something thoughtful about them, you can PM them or look at their posts to see what they're like. Just... within reason.
4. Fuzzies will take a lot of time to write, so pace yourself. Write maybe one or two a day.
5. Please don't send pounds of microwaved fur to my house. I don't want actual warm fuzzies.
