Yes, our beloved 'anonymous compliments' event is back again! This is Kozma and I will be hosting the Warm Fuzzies this time around. My co-host will be Celestial who has graciously volunteered to help out. While many of us are familiar with the Warm Fuzzies Project and don't need any further explanation about it, there are some who may not know what it is. Here's how it works:
Anyone who wishes to participate in this event will sign up here. Participants will then write a compliment for each and every one of the other participants. The compliments (hereafter referred to as fuzzies) will be sent to the event coordinators and when the event comes to an end, all participants will receive the fuzzies that the others wrote about them, with the names of the senders removed. Remember, these fuzzies are anonymous - no one will get to know who said what.
For information on past Warm Fuzzies, you can go to the threads for the ones in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, and 2014.
A shameless copy/paste from previous Warm Fuzzies.
There are a few standard caveats that have been given in the past, but they all bear repeating:
Warm Fuzzies compliments need substance. "Your picture looks sexy" or "I like your avatar" aren't acceptable, since they're generic and don't actually say anything about the person receiving them. "Your posts make me laugh" is a bit better, but still isn't specific--why do the person's posts make you laugh? "I appreciate how you contribute to X, Y, Z on the forum," "I really like your art/writing because _____," or "You're always so kind/helpful, it made me smile when ______" are much better, because they address something(s) that the person does, as well as why you like it. When I ran the event last year, the participants were very good at writing meaningful, substantial things about the other participants, so let's make sure to keep that up.
Because of the above, as participants in previous years will tell you, Warm Fuzzies compliments take lots of time, as well as lots of thought. Traditionally, the deadline for sending in your fuzzies has around three months after the start of the activity. If you try to bang out compliments to 20-30 different people two hours before the deadline, they're going to be sloppy. Work through the list of participants slowly and steadily--try writing one or two a day, and take time to think before putting anything down. You'll be given plenty of time, make sure you use it.
You need to write something for everyone. This can be difficult, since you are bound to find participants who you don't know very well, or possibly even don't care for too much. This is the real challenge of Warm Fuzzies--not just saying nice things about your friends, but finding meaningful nice things to say to the people who aren't your friends. If you're having trouble finding things to say about someone, try dropping them a line and starting a conversation! This can be a great reason to get to know people, and it's likely that they're having just as much trouble finding things to say about you.
We encourage everyone to sign up, both old-timers and newbies. However, for our newer members: please understand that people might not know you too well, and therefore might have trouble finding things to say about you; similarly, you might have difficulty finding things to say about other members of the forum. Once again--a great reason to get to know people!
Similar to the above, while everyone is encouraged to sign up, people who do so late may have trouble finding time to write compliments for everyone; at the same time, people who signed up earlier may not immediately notice the new participants. If we get a number of late participants, we will send out occasional PMs notifying current participants of the new arrivals. Also, to make sure that everyone has time to complete their final fuzzies, signups will be closed a week before the end of the activity as a whole.
Deadlines
The length of this event is going to depend on the number of participants. Our plan is to have the sign-ups run until December 14 and the deadline for sending the fuzzies in will be December 21. If we have a lot of sign-ups then we'll extend the deadline so we'll all have adequate time to write good fuzzies for everyone (I wouldn't want to give us only one month to write 20 fuzzies. >_> ). If all goes well, though, we'll have Warm Fuzzies to wake up to on Christmas day!!!
The current deadline for signing up for the Warm Fuzzies will be December 16.
The current deadline for completing and sending off fuzzies will be January 4.
So without further ado, it is time to open the sign-ups! Any questions about this event can be posted here or PM'ed to me or Celestial .
