Well I don't know how often I'll be using this, but here I go.
Basically, I write random stories and I'll put them here if I want to share. I don't know how often I'll post here. :x
Anyway, let's just get started.
So I'm participating in Wrighton and I wanted to show how my characters, Ani and Claire, met. Here's the answer.
Basically, I write random stories and I'll put them here if I want to share. I don't know how often I'll post here. :x
Anyway, let's just get started.
So I'm participating in Wrighton and I wanted to show how my characters, Ani and Claire, met. Here's the answer.
It was a month and a half into the school year and Claire was already getting disorganized. She kept forgetting what the homework is supposed to be and when things were due. She already forgot what to do for Mr. Shuba’s first project. Why did she have to have him for English again? She failed his class last year. Thank to him, Claire had to repeat tenth grade. So why did she have to repeat the class with him as her teacher? There were other English teachers that she could have, so why Mr. Shuba?
Claire quietly stomped into the library, fuming with rage. She had just gotten done talking to Mr. Shuba about the project. As she predicted, he was not willing to explain what she had to do. He just yelled at her. Claire wondered why she tried talking to him in the first place.
She calmed down a little as she looked for a table to work at. The library was crowded today. There weren’t any empty tables. Claire quietly groaned. Of course this was happening now. First Claire woke up late, so she was late for her first period, she got into a big argument with her best friend, she was yelled at by Mr. Shuba, she realized she forgot her lunch money at her house, now she couldn’t find a place to work. Great. This was shaping up to be the perfect day.
As she kept looking around for a table, she spotted someone from Mr. Shuba’s class. At least she thought so. She never got a good look at this student. Claire mostly just saw the back of her head. Still, she thought she recognized her long, red hair.
Claire walked up to the girl and tapped her on the shoulder. The girl turned around and looked up at her. She was munching on something, but quickly swallowed it. She was wearing light purple glasses. Her left eye was green and her right eye was gray. Huh, Claire never noticed that before. Then again, she only saw the back of her head. It was pretty cool.
“Excuse me, are you my English class?” Claire whispered. “Mr Shuba’s class fifth period?” She nodded. “Do you think you can help me? I forget what the assignment is and he isn’t being helpful.”
Ani nodded. Oh thank goodness, she was willing to help. Claire pulled out the chair next to her and sat down. This girl had a Chlorine manga in front of her with some sliced apples and some peanut butter off to the side. So that was what she was eating.
“You’re not supposed to have snacks in the library,” Claire quietly pointed out.
The girl pulled out a notebook and began to write something in it. Just what was she doing? Claire thought to herself. Claire was about to say something when she handed the notebook to her.
“The librarian knows I’m eating these. I always ask him if I can eat my lunch in here. You can have some if you want.” was written on the page.
“Why are you writing in a notebook?” Claire asked. “I know we’re supposed to be quiet, but whispering won’t get us in trouble.”
The girl took her notebook back and wrote something down. She handed it back shortly after. “I don’t talk. I can talk, but I don’t.”
Huh, she doesn’t talk? Claire wondered why. She decided not to ask. At least not now. She needed to at least get started on her project.
“So what do I have to do for the project?” Claire asked. “I tried asking Mr. Shuba, but he never told me.”
Ani flipped to a new page in the notebook. She began writing again. It was taking longer than it did the first time. Claire looked over the girl’s shoulder to see what she was writing. She couldn’t see it clearly, though. The girl tore the paper out of her notebook and handed it to Claire.
“Mr. Shuba wants us to analyze three of the poems in Chapter 13 and compare the themes to Master of the Beetles. He then wants us to write a 2,000 word essay on the comparisons.
"
Claire groaned. “I hate analyzing poems.” The girl tilted her head. She looked confused. “I never seem to get them right. Mr. Shuba goes too fast for me to understand how to analyze them. And when I ask after class, he gets all snappy at me. Ugh, Mr Shuba’s the worst.”
The girl nodded. She scribbled in her notebook some more and handed it to Claire. “I agree. He’s my least favorite teacher.”
“He’s my least favorite, too.” Claire handed the girl back her notebook. “He’s the reason why I’m repeating the tenth grade.”
The girl frowned. She looked down at her notebook and wrote something on a different page. She was moving her arm a lot more. Claire raised an eyebrow. The girl showed Claire the page. There was a big heart on the page with the words, “It’s okay,” in it and a cat outside of the heart. Claire smiled.
“Thank you,” Claire said kindly. “I’m Claire, by the way. Claire Kagami.”
The girl tore out the paper with the heart on it. She wrote something down on it, then handed it to Claire. “My name’s Ani Hemsworth. Pleasure to meet you, Claire.”
“It’s nice to meet you, too, Ani.” Claire looked at the clock. Shoot, lunch was almost over! “It looks like we have to go soon. Do you think I can talk to you after school about the project? I need help getting started.”
Ani nodded. Claire smiled. Something was going right for her today.
Ani began to pack her things away. She took off her glasses and put them in a case. She put those and the Chlorine manga in her bookbag. Before she could put away the apple slices, Claire took one. Ani noticed and pushed the apple slices and peanut butter towards her.
“I can have them?” Claire asked. Ani nodded. “Thank you. I appreciate it. I forgot my lunch money.”
Ani frowned. She wrote something down in her notebook again and handed it to Claire. “Sorry to hear. So can we meet here after school?”
“Yes, that sounds perfect.” Claire ate another apple slice. “You don’t know how much I appreciate this. I’ve had a rotten day so far. I woke up late-” As she was saying that, the bell rung. Lunch was over. “I’ll explain later. Thank you for the apple slices.”
Claire gathered up the apple slices and peanut butter, grabbed her bag, and bolted to her next class - not before waving goodbye to Ani. Ani waved back.
The rest of Claire’s day didn’t go as well. She also forgot homework for her two last classes. And the fight with her best friend, or rather ex-best friend, got even worse. Today was going in a downward spiral.
It didn’t bother Claire as much, though. She was looking forward to working with Ani. That was what kept her from going to the bathroom and going through a cycle of crying and watching animal videos on her phone for the rest of the day.
Claire was so excited when the dismissal bell rang at the end of her last class. The school day was over. After she was done working with Ani, she could go home and watch all the anime she wanted on Webinema until Monday. She needed a break.
Claire almost ran to the library, she was so excited. She walked into the library to see the the librarian talking to Ani. Ani looked over at Claire and waved. Claire walked up to her.
“Hi Ani,” Claire greeted. She looked at the librarian. “I’m sorry for interrupting, Mr. Basil.”
“You're not interrupting,” Mr. Basil replied. He looked at Ani. “Is she the one you told me about?” Ani nodded.
What did Ani tell Mr. Basil? Claire was about to ask when Ani started walking to a table. Claire quickly caught up with her. Ani sat down in a chair and rummaged through her bag. Claire sat down next to her.
“What were you talking to Mr. Basil about?” Claire asked.
Ani opened up her notebook, placed something on it, and slid it to Claire. There was a prewritten message on there. A candy bar was at the bottom of the page.
“Mr. Basil has snacks in his office and offers me some when I stay after school to do work. I asked if I can have an extra candy bar for you. I don’t think those apple slices would be enough to fill you up.”
“I didn’t know that,” Claire said. “Do you think he’d be okay if I ate it?” Ani nodded. “Good. I’m still hungry.” Claire opened up the candy bar and took a bite.
Ani took her notebook back and wrote something down. “How was the rest of your day?”
Claire swallowed the bite and sighed. “I wanted to go into the bathroom and cry.” Ani frowned. “I’ve had the worst day today. I woke up late for school, making me late for my first class. I had a big fight with my best friend, Mashie - well, her name is Marsha, but I call her Mashie. Or at least I used to call her Mashie because I am never speaking to her again. Mr. Shuba yelled at me for forgetting the assignment. I forgot lunch money. I forgot homework for two of my classes.” Claire held her head. “I’m sorry for rambling, but I’ve had a rotten day.”
Ani pat her back. She pushed her notebook towards her. Claire looked at it. “I’m sorry you had a bad day.”
“It’s not your fault, Ani. If anything, you’re the only good thing that happened today.” Claire looked up at Ani. Ani was smiling. “I’ve said this enough times, but I really appreciate you helping me with this project.”
Ani gave a thumbs up. Claire knew that meant she was happy to help.
Claire and Ani spent the next couple hours discussing the assignment. A good amount of time was spent on how to properly analyze the poems. The way Ani explained how to analyze them was much easier for Claire to understand than how Mr. Shuba did it. That made comparing to Master of the Beetles a lot easier.
When it came time to leave, Claire and Ani walked to the front of the school together. Claire was talking about the fight she had with Mashie. While she was doing that, they reached the front of the school. The buses were leaving. Ani saw them and began to run to the front doors. When she got outside, the last bus had left. Ani sighed and leaned on the wall. Claire walked out and saw her.
“You take the bus home?” Claire asked. Ani nodded. “Sorry about making you miss your bus.” Ani shook her head and waved her hand. “It’s not my fault? Thanks, but I kept you here. Do you have anyone you can call for a ride? Like your mom or dad?”
Ani shook her head. She took a pen from her pocket and wrote something in her notebook. She walked over to Claire and handed it to her. “No. I live with my aunt and uncle, but they’re away on business. And I live on the other side of town.”
Claire looked up at Ani. “You know, if you want, I can drive you home. My house is a ten minute walk away. We can walk there and I can take you to your house. Does that work for you?”
Ani looked a little uneasy about that. After some consideration, though, she nodded. Claire smiled and began walking. Ani quickly followed her.
About two minutes into the walk, it began to rain. It was light at first, but it began to get heavy. Claire groaned. Of course she also forgot her umbrella. Claire crossed her arms and pouted.
And then she stopped feeling the rain. Claire looked up. There was an umbrella over her head. She looked at Ani. She was holding up an umbrella. Ani looked down at Claire and smiled.
“You’re prepared for everything,” Claire commented. Ani silently laughed. “I’ll make it up to you, I promise.” Ani shook her head. “Of course I have to. Seriously, everything was going wrong for me today and you cheered me up. How’d you do that?” Ani shrugged. “Well I really appreciate it. I don’t know how I’ll repay you, but I will. Trust me.”
By the time Claire and Ani reached Claire’s house, it was a downpour. They were relieved to see that they arrived. They almost ran to the front door.
“Say, I saw you were reading a Chlorine manga earlier. Did you hear that a movie of it came out of Webinema earlier this week?” Claire asked. Ani nodded. “Are you going to watch it?” Then Ani shook her head. “Why not? Do you have Webinema?” Again, Ani shook her head. “Aw, that’s a shame.”
Claire looked at the front door. “Hey, why don’t we watch it together? I have a Webinema account and I haven’t watched it, either. You said your aunt and uncle were out of town, anyway, so it’s not like you have to be home at a certain time. So what do you say?”
Ani eagerly nodded. She was excited to spend more time with Claire.
Ani closed the umbrella as Claire unlocked the door. The two entered the house and were greeted by a black labrador. Claire kneeled down and pet him. He lied down and rolled onto his back.
“Ani, this is our dog, Reaper,” Claire informed. “You can pet him if you want.”
Ani kneeled down and pet Reaper. Reaper panted heavily and wagged his tail. As Ani and Claire were petting the dog, Claire’s parent walked into the room.
“Claire, where were you?” Claire’s mom asked. “We were wondering when you would get back.”
“I’m sorry, Ma, Pops,” Claire apologized. “I thought I texted you that I was staying after school.”
“That’s alright, Claire. Who is she?” Claire’s dad then asked, pointing at Ani.
“Oh, this is Ani. She was helping me with an English project.” Claire looked over at Ani, who smiled at her. “She’s also my new friend.”
Claire quietly stomped into the library, fuming with rage. She had just gotten done talking to Mr. Shuba about the project. As she predicted, he was not willing to explain what she had to do. He just yelled at her. Claire wondered why she tried talking to him in the first place.
