I've had this idea floating around in my head for several weeks now, but it wasn't until recently where I found a way to finally materialize it.
My idea is to create a crossover RPG, where willing NTWF members get to contribute to the story. How it would work is that I would post a premise, then the participants of the project will work together to write a story based off of that premise, involving their own characters. It would then get assembled into a game.
There's still a lot of things that I'm trying to figure out about how the whole collaborative process will work, so I decided to create this thread to gather ideas, as well as to see how many people are interested in this.
I've already gotten some groundwork done on coding the game, but again, some of the future progress will be contingent on which direction that this project will go, and on what the story turns out to be. I'm hoping, though, that I can get some screenshots and perhaps a demo to show some progress very soon.
So, your thoughts?

Sounds like a load of BARNACLES......... I kid. Sounds really interesting! So will you be making actual games?

This is a really cool idea. Yeah, I think the biggest hurdle is structuring the story in a way that makes collaboration relatively straightforward. Like everybody working on one big free-for-all plot would be hilarious and fun but could also get overwhelming fast if there's a lot of interest. Off the top of my head, you could either split it into chapters and group people by chapter, do a round robin sort of thing, or go with a plot format that already lends itself to large-ish ensemble casts and a little bit of chaos, like a whodunnit. But all that kind of depends how many people jump in, too.

I love to help write a part of an RPG - I loved talking to all the characters/people in the village to see what they said even if it was just for jokes and not an item ... reminds me of playing shining force in elementary school lol

Maybe this could help jumpstart more ideas ... creating storyboard helps to oversee how a story will go/accompanying visuals (I have watched many Disney behind-the-scenes clips in the past haha). I wrote a story for my guild and left it on a cliff-hanger. Thought I'd try to imagine it as some kind of a video game, and tried restructuring it so that there were objects to be picked up/looked closely at, etc. It's here and unfinished (might turn it into the Neopian Times if I can get it all done in the future): docs.google.com/document/d/1wfbjOBSfTsALXIdXlIuHbVExzs5g5z0EpE0PDDrsRKc/edit?usp=sharing

Apologies for the long wait in me actually replying to this thread; it's been a busy few weeks (e.g. Hurricane Irma), but it's still been on my mind, and I have been trying to throw some ideas around in my head. One idea that I've had is perhaps to create a level editor to make it easier for people to possibly contribute layouts. As for the actual storywriting process, I had been planning on drawing inspiration from the Storytelling Contest on Neopets, with each participant simply writing one after another. What Breakingchains suggested about assigning chapters to different people sounds like it'll be the most effective plan. There are still more things for me to work out, but I should be able to have something to show very soon (hopefully for real this time) so work can get started.

After even more laziness, I've finally created a document for the project on Google Docs containing more information right here. It will be updated frequently, in case any of you have any more questions or if I think of any ones that need answering. Since I have yet to think of a premise, I encourage ideas for the story here. With that in mind, I guess you could say that the collaboration phase of the project has officially started.

How am I only just discovering this now? This sounds really cool, I love writing of all kinds, I'm interested. =)

Ryanruff13I looked over your first doc of Q&As for the project! Nice to have some rules. As for the second doc, I will need permission to access it due to the privacy setting that you had set. My gmail account is: etiquette5110@gmail.com Thanks in advance! This looks fun

Hi, I'm chiming back into this thread to apologize for not updating for about three months; real life has been rather turbulent for me during that time, and I feel guilty for leaving you all hanging.
That's not to say that I've forgotten about this project; on the contrary, it's still been on my mind, and I was having a brainstorming session just last evening to try to come up with new ideas.
So this is just a reminder that I'm still interested in getting this project off of the ground, and now that my mental health has somewhat improved, I will be able to devote more time into finishing whatever I need to in order to make this project a reality. Hopefully, I shall have updates soon for real this time.
