So... On the AC board, our own Scrappy started an AC Q&A board that also addressed a few non-AC related issues. There have also been a few hints in some recent editorials about new lands. One of Scrappy's answers on the aforementioned board was...  Ideas? Discussion?? Am I the only one more than a little bit excited about this?? (P.S. I was trying to be a bit discrete in my title, but I (or a moderator) can change it if this title is too confusing/ambiguous.) Ideas? No idea.
Like if it was the original TNT I would think they would do one of the worlds that still need a map update:
Altador
Meridell
Darigan Citadel
Brightvale
Kiko Lake
Kreludor
Mystery Island
Shenkuu
The Lost Desert
But this is only if they also plan on updating the map to match what has been done with other's like Tyrannia, Virtupets Space Station, or at the very least Maraqua.
Honestly, I'm excited though also anxious. I'm going to wait till I see what they do, go in with no expectations aside it being on par with Neopets quality (basically them understanding the lore, the art being passable, and the puzzles/battling being entertaining). I'm hoping they do comics, though if they can tell a story another way that's just as engaging I'm willing to see how it goes. My main concern is the lore (and if they do a change to the lore it's an overall positive change that feels "in character").

I wonder if it has something to do with the Forgotten Graveyard Battledome that was teased last year. The name makes me think the Haunted Woods, but there could be graveyards anywhere (and ones outside of the HW would be more likely to be overlooked/forgotten).

I wonder if we can assume they'll default to somewhere that hasn't had a plot, or at least hasn't had one in a long time? On the one hand, Meridell/Darigan got two big battle plots; on the other hand, it was to lead up to their release in 2002, and look at these maps.   Just... LOOK AT THESE. Admittedly Darigan looks a thousand times better, but they're still 500x500 and have wacky unreadable fonts. fig 1-1: maps that are probably older than some of you childrens Anyways, when they hinted at this in the editorial AAAAGES ago I went and spent unseemly sums of money on codestones. xD They're still hanging out in my SDB. Glad to know the effort wasn't wasted? |

If so they'd have to choose a world that needs their map updated but if not they can choose whatever world they like. Maybe instead of figuring out what world they can choose we should discuss possible exiting story ideas they can spring from? As for hoarding BD items, any basic Codestone, Dubloon (One, Two, & Five specifically), and weapons/healing potions/magic item I get/buy I also have gathering dust in my SDB. Hopefully soon I can dust them off... |

In preparation for this, I have been training Comet for the last several months since rumor of a BD plot started.
And farming the BD for codestones. I got eight today. Today was a good day.
That reminds me. *runs to training school*
Anyway, as for what they'll do, a map update out of this would be really cool, but I'm fine with anything that happens.

That would be interesting, and they wouldn't have to worry that much about canon, but at the same time what would it be? I can mainly think of possibly two: American Western & Viking/Norse. Of the two I would lean toward Viking/Norse considering JS's relation with DreamWork's How To Train Your Dragon franchise, they probably know a bit more about Viking/Norse mythology/history than the American Western. Course, it's not like the American Western is a niche genre, Western imagery is ingrained into pop culture & media that from that alone you could make a world from it. |

You don't think they'd dare try a "one and done" method, do you? Like... a general plot to fix all the old maps AND discovery of a new land?? I hope not!

I hope not. The strains that would put on art would result in poor quality. And the strains that puts on storytelling results in nonsensical plotting.
The best plots in the past, and the best plots that could be produced, take one topic (be it a land or a concept) and laser focus on it.

So this week's Editorial revealed some new info: Whoo, a lot of thoughts going through my head, though right now I have one big worry: Wolverine Publicity. The inclusion of a popular character just for the sake of including them, even if it makes no sense. There's a few certain popular Neopet characters that I hope they don't just shove into the story just to try and appeal to that character's fanbase. I mean, yes, Jazan's inclusion in The Faeries' Ruin is sudden but it never felt out of place after the initial reveal and I feel that took some careful planning to do. Obviously it all depends on what World(s) would be involved with the plot, which makes me wonder if this is going to be an issue would they base the plot on a location that most of these popular characters live in/can visit without question. |
