NaNoWriMo and I have never had the best history; back when writing served as my main means of expression, I actually had no idea that NaNo existed, and thus I never participated. It wasn't until middle school when a friend of mine took up the challenge and told me about it that I had a faint clue what NaNo was. I never got curious enough to look into it myself, though, and as I went through high school, I slowly learned through just exposure on the Internet. Knowing my style of storytelling, I decided that it wasn't the thing for me, and if I'm correct, it wasn't until I joined this forum that I even considered participating X)
I tried NaNo twice, and I think the furthest I got was maybe 200 words last year. I... just can't get into it X) At least not the traditional route. And it's not me being a hipster about it; when I write stories, I rely heavily on the planning stage of things, and if I don't know what I want out of the story (not so much knowing what it's about, but what I want to be gained from it), then I feel lost with it. So, a race to write just immediately puts me in a corner, and I don't have the motivation to push through.
However, I do like the sentiments of NaNo; just let go and get stuff done. So, I'd still like to jump in and share the productive energy of everyone else, but I won't be writing. Rather, I'll be prewriting.
This is actually for a serial comic rather than a novel, and I'm hoping to accomplish basic characterization and world building so as to have a more solid basis for the story to take off from. The idea itself is maybe 6+ years old, but it wasn't until this past year that I decided it'd work in the format of a comic, so hopefully I can make enough progress this month that I can get into the more heavy duty planning and creating stages sooner rather than later
I'll try to post here with my progress so as to stay focused, and hopefully I don't confuse anyone on characters or plot as I imagine things will get a little disjointed XD
The basic premise is that in an alternate timeline Earth, there are humans and a related humanoid species that feeds off of color. This humanoid species is larger than humans, and they often live in or around forests that depend upon color as well. Humans can breed with this other species, but it is not a common occurrence.
The story focuses on the girl of indeterminate age right now, Delano, one of the aforementioned hybrids with a human mother and humanoid father. She has a birth defect, however, in that her body requires all colors (of the rainbow) to function, but it cannot naturally produce the color green, so she relies on external sources (similar to type I diabetes). Hence the title, Greenless Rainbow.
That's as much as I have story-wise right now, so we'll see where I am in a month XD
