The house is absolutely dull. It's a plain brown color with zero Halloween decorations on it. Why on earth would anyone want to go trick-or treating here?
But surprisingly, there is a bright orange sign on the door that says "Trick-or-treaters welcome!" So, of course, you think, this can't be so bad.
Through the window, what little you can gather of the decor is completely, utterly normal. A sofa in the corner, a grandfather clock, an utterly average television, beige wallpaper--this house is certainly the very definition of boring.
But the door opens, and treats are given...
And suddenly, you realize things are not as normal as they seem to be.

A young woman flounces up to the house, dressed in Hufflepuff house robes and twirling a wooden stick. She grins excitedly as she approaches the plain looking house. Hey, she barely decorates for Halloween herself, she ain't gonna judge.
Knocking on the door, she cries "Trick or Treat!"

The woman in the house creaks open the door and smiles at the hufflepuff robed woman. "I've got just the thing for you, friend," she says, slipping them two pieces of candy in wrappers so ornate you would have sworn they were either from another century or another universe altogether.
These wrappers in particular are extremity shiny with an intricate red and gold pattern normally reserved for rugs. "Be sure to open it outside, friend," she orders matter-of-factly, her glasses shimmering for a moment before easing the door shut.

The young woman blinked looking the candy over curiously. "Pretty wrapper," she remarked. After a moment's deliberation, she backed up a bit from the door and out onto the sidewalk before carefully prying the wrapper open to inspect the contents.

Vampire-Wizardess!Coaster glides up to the door, clad in red robes, a floppy pointy hat, and fake(?) fangs, before noticing that this house looks like a house that probably doesn't celebrate Halloween. No decorations or anything.
But hey, there's a line-up and a sign on the door and someone just got candy, so onward ho! Coaster knocks on the door when it's her turn.

( Shinko) The wrapper bursts in a small shower of confetti, leaving a handful of jellybeans in their wake. And they are ALL Buttered Popcorn flavored. downrightdude"Why hello there," the woman in a marbled brown shirt and a slightly darker brown skort greets. "This one's for you!" she grins, giving him a wrapped candy in the shape of a pear. "Try to not open this indoors, it might get...weird." She grins, about to slowly creak the door shut before seeing... CoasterVampire-Wizardess!Coaster, who is looking absolutely stunning in her robes, more than brave enough to journey forward to a house with zero decorations whatsoever. "Come here, ma'am, don't be frightened," she calls out, kicking herself for letting a bit of Texas crawl into her speech. "And here's some for you." She hands Vampire-Wizardess!Coaster a wrapper that looks extremely homemade, magenta cellophane wrapped around something the size of a jordan almond tied with a homey touch of a translucent purple ribbon. "I would be careful opening that, if I were you," Cassie chuckles, sliding the door closed with a completely innocuous CLICK.

"Thank you very much, strangely cryptic lady!" Vampire-Wizardess!Coaster exclaims as the door slides closed again.
For some reason she feels like the candy would be a lot more appetizing if it were more... crimson than magenta and purple... but as that really makes no sense (must just be the time of year or something), she admires the ribbon briefly before untying it with as much care as she gives to Christmas presents (that is, avoiding any tearing or crumpling if it can be helped), then peeling back the charming cellophane in order to see what's inside, as surely homemade candy from strangers isn't safe to eat unless it has been thoroughly examined up-close. She puts her eye right up to it to look for details.

Although the house before her inspires no Halloween atmosphere, Twillie doesn't much care. At the very least, the occupants might judge her less harshly than the others for her equally plain costume of literally just a shirt, pants, and some fuzzy boots. At a glance, one might not even take it as a costume and instead mistake her for one of the disgruntled teenagers that has to chaperone their little sibling around the block. Explaining it wouldn't do much good, either.
"So, what are you supposed to be?"
"Oh, I'm Twillie Blossom!"
"But... aren't you already-"
"The other one! It still counts as a costume!"
The gray, pocketed shirt may have stripes, and the boots might just be those that Twillie borrowed from a friend, but the thought's still there, and darn it she thinks it's cute!
... Hopefully those at this house think so, too. Approaching the front porch, Twillie knocks on the door and awaits an answer.

Coaster A sudder burst of energy ripples through the candy, coating everything including Coaster's face in delicate strands of string cheese. The candy has exploded! She did warn you you know

A person with a sheet thrown over the, with fuzzy pink chains hanging around them, prevented from jangling via their own fuzziness, walks up to the porch of the house. Ordinary looking perhaps, but the ghost appears to like it that way. Not that they'd dislike decorations, just that the house is just fine.
And there's a sign welcoming them, so it's not like they don't welcome trick-or-treaters. So they knocked at the door.
"Trick or treat!"

The young woman in the heavy cloak huffs and hitches it up to avoid dragging it through a puddle. Why did she think this costume was a good idea? Why didn't she just dress as a boat again, like last year? Or a robot, or...anything else, really?!
Though the house looks sort of dull, the bright sign catches her eye, and she trots up to the door without a moment's thought. Clutching her trick-or-treat bag in hand (a white skull covered in glitter and little stitched-on spiders), she knocks three times at the door.
"Hello! Trick-or-treat! But if you don't have treats left that's okay...I won't play a trick, really...but I saw your sign and..."
She cuts herself off, realising that she's starting to ramble again.

Twillie This particular costume piques the woman's interest and she opens the door with more vigor than usual. "A Twillie dressed as a Twillie," she declares. "How... meta. "Welcome, friend," she greets more appropriately, handing her a bright yellow wrapper containing something definitively hourglass-shaped, no bigger than Twillie's palm. "Let's hope you're near water when you open this," plain old Cassie chuckles, turning to... GelquieCassie’s eyebrows shoot right up at the fuzzy pink chains. "Now that's something I wouldn't mind having around," she muses to herself. "Greetings, fluffy ghost!" She calls out, playfully tossing them a wrapper covered in. ...dog fur? Or is there dog fur attached to it. "My neighbor's husky came over and rolled in the candy," she explains. "But I think it's tightly wrapped! Mind where you step when you open it though!" She calls out cheerfully, glancing in the direction of... Thorn A stab of pity enters plain old Cassie. That cloak looked unbelievably heavy and the poor traveler surely was not in her right mind. "Don't fret, dear there are quite a few treats left," she coaxes in her best old lady impression, handing Nyx!Thorn a treat that seems to be wrapped in opaque cotton candy. From afar it looked like plain old Cassie was giving her a small cloud. "Do be sure to be indoors when you eat it," she cackles, swiftly and mysteriously shutting the door.

A boy walks by the plainest house, eyeing it and wondering whether it's worth going to. But more candy is better than less candy, so after a few yards he doubles back and walks up to the front door. He's wearing a posterboard with vertical and horizontal black lines forming a grid, and a single bright, jagged red line zigzagging from the upper left to lower right.
"Trick or treat?" he asks, a bit uncertain.

The ghost stares down at her candy, but smiles (albeit hidden by the sheet) and waves. "Oh, thanks!" They call out, though they're mystified by what they said last. "No worries about the dog fur, so long as it's wrapped! I'll just open it carefully." Obediently, they step out to the yard so they can look at their candy. They save most of it for when they get home, and then store it over the period of months, but then sometimes she was just curious enough about the candy, or they just wanted something on the way. Everything spaced out, of course. They try to shake off some of the dog fur before they gingerly open the wrapper.
