In the middle of August 2011, a teenage Coaster, entering the final year of high school, finally developed enough arting chops to be published in the Neopian Times, with a unique (at that point), though very unpolished, 3D rendered style... and shortly thereafter received a Neomail of congratulations on behalf of the Neopian Times Writers' Forum.
But actually, Coaster immediately checked it out and was appalled that there was (it seemed) a secret society controlling the publication of the Neopian Times, and promptly avoided it, and even poked fun at it on a couple occasions, until first year at university--on October 1st, now just over four years ago.
At that point, Coaster had only been moved out from home for about a month, and was still trying to figure out how to get re-settled into a familiar town. Coaster was also ignorant to the point of bigotry thanks to some rather toxic fundamentalist indoctrination and a lack of general social awareness, and despite having known for years that something was physically wrong, Coaster was very much in denial about actually being a girl, and tried for a couple years longer to suppress it and defeat it and otherwise treat that identity as a gross and evil and wrong thing. But in the meantime, "he" posted a few renders and songs, and enjoyed participating in the general goings-on in the forum, especially by resurrecting long-dead threads through forbidden necromancies that have once again been lost to time. Overall, that Coaster played at being cheerfully goofy, but offscreen, was rather antisocial and defensive, and generally not a very fulfilled person.
But in the long run, this forum (along with the Skype chat, later) has provided me with an incredible amount of patience and support and big fun RP events and such over the years, from my eventual coming-out and transition, to my depressed rants and continuing immaturity (but I'm working on it!). Most of all, the people I've met here have been some of my best friends in the time that I've been here, so thank you all for an incredible four years, and I hope that the next six (yes, I'm shooting for Ancient Fogey) will be much happier still!
You're all awesome and wonderful and best, and you should have a cookie, except I can't send cookies over the Internet as far as I know.
