So the new set, Eldritch Moon, is primed and ready for release. Is anyone looking forward to this? Does anyone on here play Magic? If so what format? I am partial to Elder Dragon Highlander, or Commander as it is called.

So I've never had my own Magic cards because it looks like an expensive hobby and I'm too leeroy to be good at these games, but I did follow the storylines for a while and have lovely memories of playing the game with family by using my brother's decks, around the time of the first Innistrad block. My strongest memory is of four of us out camping, hanging out in a tent eating corn chips and playing Magic. =P (I absolutely adore Innistrad, and mainly used a red/black Innistrad vampire deck. My brother also made a zombie one which interested me, but it was not really the sort of deck I could use properly- the vampire one was about getting stronger by attacking, which is right up my alley). Anyway, having finally caught up on the storyline: Sorin was and is my favourite planeswalker, so it's neat to see that he's still in the picture, but... Avacyn! D=
I really really hope she comes back, somehow ('Avacyn Restored Yet Again', anyone?). She was pretty cool, but at least there's still Sigarda I suppose! Commander sounds awesome, I only ever tried Standard but I think if I actually had my own cards I would have gone for Commander, especially since it a) lets you use a wider range of cards, and b) is a format that is played reasonably widely in my area.

I played back in high school, last set I bought cards from was Nemesis I think, which ought to give you some idea of how old I am. However, I do intermittently work at a game store so I still hear about it and open many booster packs. From a business end it doesn't appear to be a super exciting set (no big values like the fetch lands in Zendikar) but the art is great and there are some fun concepts. I was amused by the meld cards, who would have thought that the Big Furry Monster from Unglued would have a legitimate counterpart?
Commander is the big format at the store, most people seem to play it or go to pre-release booster drafts. I hear a lot about Two Headed Monster as well.

Commander is the big format at the store, most people seem to play it or go to pre-release booster drafts. I hear a lot about Two Headed Monster as well. Two-Headed Monster? I commonly hear it referred to as Two-Headed Giant. As someone who has seen the BFM in person I found it amusing too. My favorite Meld card is Hanweir, the Writhing Township. My brother wants someone to do Howl's Moving Castle art for it Thorn, Sorin has been imprisoned in a stone block by Nahiri. She did this as revenge for him putting her in the Helvault along with the multitude of demons Avacyn captured. Thalia now wields Avacyn's spear and has founded the Order of Saint Traft. The necromancer Liliana Vess has joined the Gatewatch, and has discovered that Emrakul, the Promised End's magic doesn't affect zombies. She is now assembling a zombie army to use against the final Eldrazi titan. Also the next set after the new Conspiracy set is Kaladesh, Chandra Nalaar's home Plane!

Ugh you're right, I meant two headed giant!
It looks like the Eldrazi magic doesn't affect ghosts either, going by some flavor text, so there are a few helpful ones. I also liked Liliana's gatewatch oath which is like, "Yeah ok whatever." She's so blasé.
No more Fatpacks as of Kaladesh! The're moving to a different bundle. It seems like an interesting plane, too.

KepilothI more just meant I'm glad Sorin's in a recent set, given some of the other planeswalkers haven't been seen in a while. =P I knew he got imprisoned, he probably deserves it anyway, he's not very nice. Didn't know about Thalia though! Really happy about that, I was wondering what happened to her. I'm also curious to see what Sigarda will get up to next, if that's actually going to be relevant- because she's the last non-corrupted angel on Innistrad, right? I think. I like Nahiri. Her design reminds me of a character from one of my favourite ever shows, Farscape! Chandra probably being in a new set is awesome too, she's my stepbrother's favourite planeswalker. I also recently stumbled across the SDCC artworks of the Gatewatch as zombies, which looked super rad!

Now that you mention it, Nahiri does look a lot like Chianna. The Kor are kinda pallid and thin. A lot of people when they first saw Nahiri were like, "OMG, Stoneforge Mystic became a Planeswalker!" One of the new cards for Eldritch Moon, called Imprisoned in the Moon, allows you to turn creatures, lands, and planeswalkers into a land that tap for colorless mana. Just Look at this artwork! We briefly got a look at two new planes in Magic Origins, Kaladesh and Vryn. These being the homes of Chandra and Jace. Liliana is from Dominaria, Nissa is a Zendikari, and Gideon(formerly Kythion) is from Theros, all planes we've visited before. I hope to see the Mage Rings of Vryn again soon. As at the time of Jace's spark ignition it was in the middle of a war kept going by Jace's tutor Alhemmeret. Also Jace is a terrible Living Guildpact. Going off to Zendikar and Innistrad and leaving Ravnica alone? That's just begging for a war. In other news, four colored commanders!

How is there a new set already?! We opened over 4,000 booster packs Wednesday and another almost 3,000 Thursday. Conspiracy is a goofy set aimed at booster drafts with some new cards but mostly a weird smattering of reprints. The Plainswalker Kaya has alternate art on her foil version, which looks really cool. We opened her exactly twice! So her foil promo seems quite rare.

Cool, my brother got Grenzo, Selvala, and Daretti. I'm buying a booster box to try my luck.
