So this is something I've been tossing up for a while... Since I so often mention all the random sewing projects that I'm working on (on JCW at least) I thought it might be nice to have a way of showing you my finished projects... Feel free to post and chat to me about any of these projects - I love talking about my sewing! And if you sew, I'd love to hear about all your sewing projects too (Aaand, just a disclaimer: I'm not actually great at sewing, I can just about enough to make what I want but... not some epic fashion designer or anything like that )

So this is a winter skirt I was making some time ago. I think I was talking to Tara about this one? And complaining how thick the fabric was? Well here's a close up of the fabric: And here we have my lovely long gloves: And it might've been ♥ Lulu or Tara I was talking to about this one... How I was making a jacket out of old curtains? Well here's the curtain: And here's the jacket: Oh, and just a random dress I made to wear to a wedding. I was looking around on the interwebz trying to find a dress with that sort of a pleating and there's nothing. Absolutely nothing! Apparently that hasn't been in fashion since the '60s. Eh, it looks nice so I'm gonna use it regardless of fashion! I dunno how often I'll get around to putting up more projects here... so apologies if this just ends up rotting... But currently I'm working on a series of hand puppets, so maybe they'll make an appearance here once they're done

AND THOSE GLOVES DUUUUUDE. How did you even manage to make them fit so well gloves hate me pffff

With a garment I've never sewn before, I tend to start with a bought pattern to see how it goes (hence the jacket is made of curtains ) then I just alter and alter and alter it as I make subsequent garments until it's beyond recognition and just like I want it! But I was pretty happy with how the jacket turned out anyways It's not lined thought, which is a drawback - something I might change next time I use that pattern... And the gloves - the secret is just to make them out of a really good two way stretch knit! Looking at them I'm like "there's no way my hands will fit into that" - but then they do! It's amazing Also, it was actually your cosplay thread that made me think I'd better put a disclaimer about being a fairly average seamstress, just so you know

I'm like struggling bc I have to make just one glove for my Ryuko Matoi cosplay but I have no money to get a pattern (actually I never have money to buy patterns welp) so I'm trying to figure out how to go about tracing my hand and how much seam allowance to add and??? What am I even doing

So winter's getting cold. Too cold to be wearing skirts, even if they're long skirts. The solution: Wear jeans? No thank you! But apparently silk is really warm, so I decided to do what all sensible people do and make myself a silk petticoat. I think it turned out rather nicely It's just a simple design - flared from a plain yoke and two layers thick for extra warmth. Also, here's a close up of the fabric - it's so FANCE I believe the technical name for this fabric is a 'shot silk taffeta', meaning that it has a different colour silk in the warp and the woof. Black and fuschia in this case, so it shines a different shade of deep purple depending on what light you view it in. And not ironed of course, because seriously, it's a petticoat! Two main things I love about this: One - It feels so decadent to be able to say "Oh yes, I'm wearing a silk petticoat" Two - I made it out of old curtains that I picked up off someone's junk pile so it's completely free (I have a bit of a thing for making clothes out of curtains, okay)

Awesome! That petticoat fabric looks amazing. If you had more an outfit made from it would look fantastic.

Yeah, I've already posted one jacket that I made out of a curtain, but one day I must show you people the medieval gown I made out of pink velvet curtains and white lace curtains. Then there's the deep red evening gown I made out of a different set of curtains again... I still need to take the sleeves off that, I really can't get them to work :/ Fortunately (being curtains) I have enough material in that red fabric left to make another copy of that dress One with sleeves this time! I wasn't joking when I said I had a thing for making clothes out of curtains! Awesome! That petticoat fabric looks amazing. If you had more an outfit made from it would look fantastic. I know! But I really don't have enough of it left for that Though I did intentionally make the petticoat nice enough that I can wear it as a skirt in its own right in the warmer weather - no-one need know that it was originally meant for a petticoat!
