There once was a girl called Lulu, who was the only person she knew who couldn't draw even basic shapes. Stick figures, even, were a step too far, but she tried now and again anyway. It never ended well. So I've decided I'm going to make a go at it. I can't draw, but I would like to learn. I know it'll take...years for me to learn how to draw well. But I'm hopeful it'll take less time for me to draw things recognisable and to be able to do a little bit of faces. Recently, I've been procrastinating by doing a little still life. And attempting to shade. I don't have a sketchbook at the moment, or a mechanical pencil, so this is just in a notebook with a pencil lying around my room. The right-most drawing is of a diffuser, by the way. It had too many elements/too unique a perspective (??) for me to draw at my level, I realised half-way through. I think the shading on the lampshade is fairly successfully here, even if the bottom of the lamp came out looking squashed. This was definitely too extreme for me to try! The guy is a bust of Socrates (I think) that I picked up at a charity shop years ago, and the big lug of a face is my Willow man. If you scroll past the drawing, I've included a picture of him so you can see what I was going for. I'm hoping that, once my deadlines and some other errands are out of the way, I'll be able to join a life drawing class and make a go at that. I think the main thing I need to work on right now are shapes, steady linework, and patience.
