First finished drawing of the new year! Yeah, I paid a bunch of attention to lighting in this drawing. Which is why everything looks so dark, which is what I was going for. I tried out a new technique for wood, which turned out beautiful on the kasa-obake (the umbrella thing). On the actual trees... not so much. XD I need to work on textures and all of that. But I think I'm getting there. Also, guess how many layers this has. :3 128. This has 128 layers. I have a problem. XD

128 LAYERS?!? I usually forget layers are a thing and have like ... three ...
The handle on the kasa-obake is amazing! What was the technique you used? I'm horrible at backgrounds, but especially woodlands/trees/etc.

Cool glow effect, it came out really well. Thank you. ^^ 128 LAYERS?!? I usually forget layers are a thing and have like ... three ... The handle on the kasa-obake is amazing! What was the technique you used? I'm horrible at backgrounds, but especially woodlands/trees/etc. Yeah, I have a problem with layers. XD That's the most layers I've ever had on a drawing. For the kasa-obake handle, it was less an official technique and more of me winging it, but here's what I did: 1) I laid down a base color. I did also add a couple similar tones so it wasn't just one tone all the way through, but that's just me making things more complicated. 2) I drew lines on the handle with the base color on a new layer above the base. This layer was a Burn layer (or Hard Light, I honestly forget which one), which made the dark lines. As for the lines, I was just drawing what sort of looked like wood. After I was done, I merged the two layers. 3) I made a Screen layer and sort of drew light spots in between the dark lines. I blurred these, lowered the opacity of the layer to 50%, and merged down. 4) I repeated the last step in some areas that I thought needed to be lighter, only this time lowering the layer opacity to 75%, then merging down. I was doing all of this up close and I was worried it would look funny, but it looked really nice when I zoomed out. (This is the first time I have ever successfully drawn wood detail that I like, which is why I pointed it out in the first place.) I'm bad at doing backgrounds, too. XD I've been wanting to work on it for some time now and I think I'm ready to buckle down at get practicing.

Well, I didn't draw this, but I colored this. A Youtuber I'm subbed to (Draw with Jazza, as you can see in the little signature thing) hosts a Challenge of the Month and this month was to color in some linework he created (this one is called Color of Loss). I think I'm good at coloring and there are some awesome prizes, so I figured I should give it a shot. This is my first time entering something like this and I'm nervous. :'D Wish me luck!

Rabbit ♠ Holy cow, that is some amazing colouring work! It looks so desolate and eerie, but concentrates the eye exactly where it needs to be. You also captured the colours of the night very well. I really think it deserves to win! Best of luck!

It looks awesome, Rabbit!! I especially like the rim lighting the spirit is reflecting onto him, like she's glowing. The color palette you chose suits the piece very well. You did an awesome job! I follow Jazza too, but I've never entered a Challenge of the Month myself. It's so cool you're entering this one! Good luck, I'm rooting for you!

WHO WANTS TO SEE THREE YEARS OF IMPROVEMENT. Ah, 2014. When I was still using Crayola colored pencils, my hand was unsteady, and my heads were the same size as my bodies. Fun story, I was chatting on Discord with some artist buds and we were talking about art and improvement and all that stuff. So I went to dig up a picture of Comet from 2015. Then I came across this, which was from late 2014. I think I improved a lot since then. I decided to do a side by side (after a friend did the same with his), and this is the result. I figured I should share, because why not? :3 Blue and silver were always a thing with Comet. Her eyes were always purple. She was always associated with ice and snow in some way. Some things just don't change with time. Now, though, I'm a lot happier with her design and character and all that. I have no clue if three years is a long or short amount of time to improve as much as I did. No matter, I'm happy. ^^

Butch Hartman is doing a fan art contest on his Instagram and I decided to take part for funzies. ^^ You have no idea how long I've been putting off drawing his characters. :'D (I want to try drawing in some other people's styles and I figured his cartoon style would be easy to draw in for me.) Prime example of what Rabbit does when she doesn't plan ahead and has no clue what to do for the background.

So cool, Rabbit! =D Also, I think that background looks awesome. The colors really compliment the character (like the green in Danny's eyes) and I think it pulls everything together really nicely! The Ghost Zone allows for creative freedom, right?

Hey, I finished this earlier today. I've been really looking into yokai lately, so that's what this is. This is a Hari Onago (which translates to Hook Girl because of her hair). I thought that the idea is really cool and would be fun to draw, so here this is. If you want to look into the hari onago, that's cool, but fair warning, I took interest in it because it has a bit of a dark story (at least dark enough where I don't want to explain it on the NTWF). You know, because I have a dark, dark mind. |D I think I did okay with this. I think I framed the subject well and there's a contrast between her and the background (the background has a lot of straight lines while the hari onago herself has a lot of curves). I'm happy with the color choices, which aren't too saturated (I've been working on desaturating my color palette).

It's getting late and I should probably get some sleep since I have class in the morning, but Imma post this thing I did today. The shading and highlights could be better, but oh well. I did this all today because I decided I wanted to draw something because I was bored. Besides, I had this mental image for who knows how long. Also, if you haven't noticed, but Mimikyu is one of my favorite Pokemon. XD (Weavile's my favorite, but Mimikyu is like a close second.)

Litwiiiiiiiick I love Litwick. It's so cute and sort of creepy at the same time (which I love). I love its evolutionary line. Litwick and Chandelure are easily in my top ten favorite Pokemon list. (Lampent is cool, but I do prefer Litwick and Chandelure.) I wanted to draw Litwick for a while and I've been wanting to practice drawing fire. It was bound to happen at some point. XD

Last night, the internet in my residence hall went out. I wasn't tired and it was still pretty early. I needed a new Discord profile picture, too. (As to whether or not make this my NTWF profile pic, I have no clue. If I get bored soon enough (which, if you know me, is a good possibility), I will probably draw one for here.) So this was born. This is probably the closest to a picture of me anybody here will see for some time. XD This isn't 100% accurate, of course. My eyes could be a different color (no, I didn't do the sensible thing and look in a mirror to get an exact color), my hair in the drawing is much nicer and not in a ponytail (I usually wear my hair back), my skin is much more red in real life, this is still really stylized, my hair is curlier, I could go on. I mainly just wanted to draw the eyes. I had a vision for eyes and I went with it. I've been obsessed with drawing eyes lately - seriously, if you were to look at my desk, there are so many index cards with eye doodles drawn several different ways. I gotta say, I like the eyes. I'm still developing my style and a big thing I've been experimenting with is eyes, since they can be drawn in so many ways.
