Neopets on a 56k dialup modem (it was blazing fast then, almost double speed from 28.8k...I wasn't born early enough to measure speeds in baud though)...when we actually waited for the games to load...when our parents made us get off so they could use the phone.

Thank you so much mac! I loved seeing all those buttons again. Alright, I now have an idea for my second Neopets retro quest. This time I am seeking old pet images; i.e. images of the pets that were used before Customization was implemented in 2007. You can still find many of these images on the Neopets servers; I am not looking for those - I am looking for the ones that are no longer available on the Neopets site - images such as the following:     Now these images were found on JellyNeo's Book of Ages - they have quite a repository of past pet images such as these. However, the only images they seem to have are of *happy* pets. I do not see any sad, angry, beaten or battledome images there. This quest is to find past images that are not found on Neopets and are not found on JellyNeo's Book of Ages. An example of what I am looking for can be found on this image:  This book, currently on Neopets, has an old sad Wocky on its cover. This is the type of thing I would like to find. So, if you happen to have some old pet images saved on your computer or know where to find them, please share them here!  |

Kozma- Sunnyneo has facial expressions for pre-customization pets (though probably not all, especially older pets such as the Cerpull or if the pet has been redrawn/revamped several times). The example that I'm posting is of the baby Acara (you might have to scroll down the page) Behold, Old School/Classic Baby AcarasEDIT: There are two locations within Neo that still uses pre-customization images: the lab ray (after zapping a pet, sad expression) and the Deserted Tomb of Geraptiku (if the arrow trap is triggered, hit pose) EDIT 2: Alternatively, there is Jellyneo's Old Pet Poser. However, just like Sunnyneo's Rainbow Pool, it may not have all past iterations of certain pets.

Old images of Neopet poses follow a certain URL format: images.neopets.com/pets/ emotion/ pet_ colour_ style.gif For regular poses, emotion could be happy, sad, angry, or beaten, along with a pet color and "baby" for the style (because of an old idea in development where pets could age and originally that was the baby stage--nothing to do with the Baby PB color, so for a Baby Acara "acara_baby_baby" would be part of the URL, while a Blue Eyrie would have "eyrie_blue_baby" in those spots). For the Battledome poses, emotion can be hit, closeattack, rangedattack, or defended, with style being left or right. The "photo of me" type on the petpages omit the "pets/" part of the URL and use the emotion of "template_images", and the style of "me". And, of course, there are the petlookup ones with the rings in the background, which are just like the regular pose format except it omits the "emotion/" part of the URL. The site Ian Wolf-Park linked actually has all the images from that "collection" that are still hosted on the Neopets site if you'd rather view them that way than hunt them down via URL. Of course, that's only for the most recent art iteration before customization came out; most of the older ones aren't hosted on the site anymore, and as Kozma said, those are the ones we need to find! |

Correct; the images I'm looking for can no longer be found on Neopets, unlike the ones on SunnyNeo which are all taken off of Neo's site. A good example of what I was looking for was the one mac shared; it's an old image that was taken off of Neo years ago. Kozma - Could you specify pets/colors you are interested in? I'd be glad to help. Certainly!  I'm specifically looking for old images of the following species: Wocky (yellow would be great but it would also be nice to have images of the other 3 base colors) Acara (blue and yellow specifically but the other 2 base colors would be welcome) Kacheek (yellow, blue, pink) Cybunny (any color) Lupe (any base color and white) And that sad Wocky is total adores!  |

I think I'll go ahead and give this thread a good revival because there are more retro Neopets things I'd like to find.
Hi all! I was wondering if anyone would like to help me find some old Neopedia articles. The articles I'm specifically looking for are those that have been taken offline or replaced with newer ones. Examples of these articles include Grundo's Gym, Mulvinn the Wocky, and Inigma the Space Brain. If these articles still exist online somewhere I'd like to find them.

Heh, seeing the old ranged attack pose on the White Lupe being praying is kind of hilarious given that Hunter's a Light/Holy elemental character XD

I just remembered that you can still see a lot of the older Shadow/Starry pets on the servers. You just have to put them as "shadowed" and "stars" in the image URLs. Most of the Shadowed pets are the second versions. The original Shadowed style Cybunny and Chomby are still up, though. The Stars pets are... actually mostly the same as modern Starry. :T But the older poses could still be fun to look at.   Shadowed - Aisha, Chomby, Cybunny (no BD poses), Elephante, Flotsam, Gelert, Grundo, Jetsam, Kacheek, Kau, Kougra, Lenny, Peophin, Shoyru, Skeith. Stars - Chomby, Elephante, Koi, Peophin, Poogle, Quiggle, Shoyru, Techo, Tuskaninny, Uni, Zafara. (Also, if anyone ever wants help finding a specific old pet pose, feel free to poke me. I'm kinda' decent at digging them up.) |
