... I was going to say I hope the NT will come back, but on second thought... I don't think I'd like to see /how/ they'd bring it back.

I'm more inclined to give the news writer the benefit of the doubt for that news post. They may have anticipated new players who created accounts to get the rewards from Ghoul Catchers. (Plus there are almost certainly old members who have never read that particular Neopedia entry and if they're going to waste server space on it, they may as well draw attention to it so it gets read) Someone posted elsewhere on the forum that the staff said they'd address competitions next week (whether or not that actually happens is anyone's guess); since most veteran members really only care for news regarding user-driven content, potential plots, and restockable items I really don't see what else they could have done. It's a sad pet day, but I don't think they were being deliberately malicious to older members - we just want things they don't have the resources to provide right now. June Scarlet : That is... worrisome. I've asked my inner 12 year old and the only way that's inappropriate in the traditional sense is with a lot of imagination and innuendo. Like, a lot. Now I'm inclined to call them Jumpstaff just to annoy them. Even though there may be old staff members left, the whole lot of them haven't earned the moniker "The Neopets Team" yet. Liou : Droplet's not due back until May and that's still a ways away. She's been a staff member for a long time, so I don't think they can legally terminate her completely while she is out (the only thing I could find is that while they can remove her position, they have to offer her another position of equal pay and responsibility within the company upon her return). That's a month and a half for them to get their act together. If the site is running smoothly then I see no reason to not let her slide back into her old job. If it isn't and they chose to get rid of the NT, then the site's probably as good as dead at that point anyway. :/

So, I've been kind out off the loop for a while because of RL being busy. But what's the point of Neopets without the Neopian Times (has there really not been a new issue for a month)? I mean come on, the NT is what has made me want to come back to Neopets for the past ten years. How could it just vanish. Bah. I've been on Neopets for about 14,5 years, why must it be destroyed now.

I'm guessing they pulled the "Jumpstaff" pet, in case people thought it was actually staff from Jumpstart. But then that makes me question why the "Jumpstart" pet is allowed to stay. Curious.

Allison: Maybe they consider "Jumpstaff" as a mocking name, at least compared to TNT which we hold as a sort of affectionate name? However that brings a new worry up, names. Though TNT had buckled down a few years ago, they still allowed for some risque names to be grandfathered in as well as ones which were created not for a malicious reason. But will JumpStart also follow that rule? Okay, maybe they'll not allow for any new risque names being created, but what about the ones grandfathered in? Are they at risk? And if JumpStart don't like them, what are they going to do with them? Delete Neopets and Accounts? Give the owners of those Neopets and Accounts a chance to rename them? It's probably not a major worry now, but as soon as things start to come together it could become a concern. And now this makes me what other things are now at risk that TNT were nonchalant about but JumpStart may see inappropriate, no matter what the context.

Actually, I have two pets, Promise_of_God and rockofmysalvation that were grandfathered in, and the name was pointed out to me on a board. I was sharing a random event that used my active's name, and purposely didn't type it in the boards. So it was pointed out that I should be careful with the name. I told the other user that the name was grandfathered in That said, since it was pointed out to me, I'm playing it safe for a bit, and switching my active. Even though Promise really is my favorite, and my battle pet. *sigh*

I was more talking about names which would be considered offensive no matter who it was brought up to (yes, some people don't believe in god or the same god(s), but I'd imagine those who would be offended would be in the minority. Also there's technically nothing wrong with the concept of there being a "god"-like creature, especially fantasy settings. Just don't make it too religious or political). Honestly I'm more worried about my username. It's a name of a character from a popular franchise that is not owned by JumpStart.

If they start deleting every username that's taken from a popular franchise, that's over half their userbase. I don't think they're that stupid.

If Viacom and their record of being super-litigious didn't have a problem with it, I doubt a smaller company like Jumpstart would.

Pikachu isn't owned by Viacom either and they let you get away with it. Nintendo has other things to be worrying about than the name of a Neopets account.

Okay, so... lilangel posted the following earlier in response to a charter board I made for the Farewell TNT project:
Is this true? D: If so... I just hope everything works out. I really, really do.

I suppose all we can do is wait and hope Droplet comes here to let us know how it is with her.

I've been wondering, how does maternity leave work in the US (or, well, California in particular)? How shortly before giving birth does it start and how old would the baby be when it ends? Only that if she's dealing with settling back into the job/having to find a new job while the kid is zero to two months old, this forum might not be very high on her list of priorities.
(If you think May is a long time to be waiting for Droplet, maternity leave here is one and a half years :'D)

This is really depressing... I didn't even realize anything was wrong until I popped in and saw the... interesting Scorchio Day in the New Features. And the lack of a Neopian Times.
I know I haven't been around much lately, but Neopets has been a huge part of my life for a very long time. Hearing that so many of the people that made it possible, the people whose fun-loving creativity colored the world I resided in, are gone now... it's awful. I had very high hopes for Jumpstart and what they'd do with this site, but the lag put a dent in that and this has more or less destroyed it.
Also, Droplet's having a baby? Belated, but congratulations to her. :3 I guess that's one slice of happy news, at least.

(If you think May is a long time to be waiting for Droplet, maternity leave here is one and a half years :'D) I think it's up to the person how and when they want to start taking their maternity leave. For the US, there is 12 weeks unpaid leave, but only if the company employs more than 50 people. But each state can add more to that, if they want, so I dunno about California. Also depends on the employer, too. I know for a lot of game/TV/movie industries, people are hired on as freelance instead of employees, meaning they don't get all the benefits (like health insurance, for example).
