So, I've been messing around with RenPy, a visual novel program. So I started to think, why not make a small game based on Medieval?
It'll still be a while before I really have time to work on it, or get things set up. But here's a idea of what I think it'll be like.
You play a nameless citizen of Kyth. This all takes place during the main plot. I'm unsure if I'll consider this person a random member of the Shadows or not... Depending on choices made, the character can run into different members of the story, from Merchants, to Houses, to somehow hanging out with Royalty. Also depending on choices, they might be around to relive some big moments. Or, boring ones (imagine, hanging out in a shop with a merchant or being stuck in jail XD).
This wouldn't be a dating sim, but if you choose things right, you might end up hanging out with certain characters more then others. Also, maybe some Bad Endings or Random Fun Endings that aren't canon might happen if some choices are done XD It all really depends on how much help I get and how much time and effort I put in.
I probably won't start until sometime in January at the earliest. But there are a few things I could use help on to make things run smoother and nicer.
Artists - 2 or 3 most likely. Will need backgrounds, character profile pictures (prefer if all characters are a similar art style to each other, so maybe one artist there, but this role would take a lot of work...), and possibly action/story sequence pictures (like walking in on a certain drunk falling face down in a assassin's room, or a scene from the invasion).
Writer/Writer assistant? - We have a basic story to go on, the whole RP. However I need to start breaking it down following certain characters and factions and such. Then I need to break it down more to fit well in the game. Plus some added new things tossed in. Not to mention the random endings that can appear XD
Permission and such- There are a lot of characters. Some might play major roles, but they're all important. I'm still unsure of all the characters that will be followed around or interacting with (to many will make it really hard to program XD), but still better to get permission from most people if I can. If the character themselves aren't followed, the faction is still likely to be followed and such. It all depends later really >.>
-- So yeah. That's my plan... Not sure how well this will go XD But it's something I want to at least try doing. Things may change as time goes on, maybe narrow down things, might split up work with people, might bring more people in, who knows... I never did this sort of stuff before XD

Sounds neat! My characters are free for grabs if you want them. I could also probably help with art and/or writing if I'm not too swamped with other stuff. XD (Random idea right off: if you're playing as a random peasant, maybe you can get recruited by one of the factions depending on what you do?)

Not sure how to go about it exactly XD But I figure if you interact with a certain faction enough, a opening might happen. If I do a bit more research and such, I think I can make it so it can happen and then lock out the other factions and some characters or something. Right now I can't get to advanced in stuff XD I only know the basics of the game. But it IS a idea I was thinking of XD

8D You can have any of my characters, for sure. I'd also be willing to help out with character art/writing and such if needed (depending on how busy I am, but as it stands currently I should be reeeeally not busy at the beginning of next year and dying for something to do. XD)

I'm not sure I'll have the time to help out in any capacity, but you can use any of my characters as you see fit. <_<

Heee that sounds amazing I hope it works well! *w* Feel free to grab my character. I don't think a "sea slug that takes a week to draw one character" is the type of artist you're looking for, but feel free to prod me for writing-related questions or throw brainstorm ideas at me. \o/

Sounds awesome! You're more than welcome to use Leif (and Ayleth, I guess XP). I'd be glad to help with writing, too, if you like (for roleswap fic I had to break down game events by faction, so I have a timeline of individual nightly actions and a few rounds of minutia (the timeline's still not fully complete and it does just turn into night actions eventually, but I'll probably finish it up this week/next week since I'll have time zomg) that you're welcome to use. I might be able to help with drawing stuff like backgrounds, but definitely put other artists in the queue ahead of me XP

You're free to use Morgaine or Sieg in this if you like! I do have one small suggestion where art is concerned though, if I may? I understand wanting all the art to be consistent, that makes total sense, but this is a lot of work to ask of one person. Drawing portraits and backgrounds and potentially several portraits per character to go with various emotions is essentially the same amount of work as a professional freelance job- for no pay.
Maaaybe it'd be easier if you did this instead; divide it up so that you have one artist doing sketchework, one doing lineart, and one doing color/shading. That way the art is all still the same consistent style, but the work is divided up a little more so that no one person is getting overwhelmed trying to draw too much all on their lonesome.

That can work XD I didn't really want to be tie an artist to a desk and whip them to do all the characters XD Would be a bit annoying, and we would probably wait forever. I'm also open to artists who can copy a certain style and such. The character art is really the most work here, since all the characters need a few emotion portraits and such. Background, we really only need a few, and they don't need to be super detailed XD Mostly just a few key locations. And Event stuff can be done by anyone really XD Those can be totally different from the rest. It's really just the characters I want semi similar. With the wide variety of artists around here, it would look a bit off if every character looked totally different from each other XD Thinking about it, we could also do a artist (artist team) per faction even... This topic is open for debate still XD I figure the project will take a few months to do, so plenty of time to discuss and figure this stuff out.

You're welcome to use both Stallion brothers for this. ^_^ I don't think I'm what you're looking for when it comes to art, I can't copy art styles and my style is not suited for a game like this (and I have so much to do already) but I might be able to volunteer my services as a line artist or a colourist? Maybe?

Small Update
Ok. I've been thinking, and yeah, to much work for even a few artists to do everything.
So I think we'll sort of go the path that Namco High did. One person can do all the character art for one, two, or however they think they can handle, in whatever art style they want.
I just need to figure out the characters going to be used (right now assume most/all characters). How many expressions, size of pictures needed, and all that junk. But this way the art won't be a giant pain in the butt for two or three artists XD
I'll still need only one or two people for backgrounds (random town street/alley, inn and shop, castle, square, etc). With backgrounds, we can pretty much do a simple image, and for repeated things can change tints and stuff for places if it'll be easier. Like use the same bar/inn/tavern image for multiple places, or making a image darker for a night time scene).
Then there's still the special event images/end images. But those can be worried about later when the story is written more. But that can be the deaths of characters (main characters, not the player character), or literally the ending and stuff.
Soooo yeah. Something more to think about for later. Story writing and stuff will most likely start next month still like I said before. The story is technically all ready written luckily XD (stares at giant RP). It really needs to just be torn apart and written out more like a script. The splitting pat is really the hard part of this process XD
