Returning Kirin’s smile with a gentle one of his own, Leif said, “All right - no pressure either way. Whatever you feel comfortable with.” He put an arm around the Stallion’s shoulder in a brief hug, then stood up to meet Sieg’s challenge. “Well, if you’re going to put it that way - don’t worry, valiant knight, the archmage can break his own ice.” Despite the brave words, he was a little nervous; Leif knew his singing voice wasn’t exactly good, and even though - or perhaps because - most of these people were friends or close acquaintances, he didn’t want to embarrass himself… It’ll be fine, he told himself. And you can’t back out of it now or Sieg will have new material for months, and he’ll win by default! He did have the perfect song already in mind, anyway. “Upon this holy night, When Woo’s bright light appears, And floods the earth with brightness Birds' voices rise in song And warbling all night long Express their glad heart's lightness”He repeated the last three lines almost without thinking - that was just the way the song was sung, but he could probably have skipped the repetition and probably nobody would have noticed. Oops. Ah, well, next verse...”The Nightingale is first To bring his song of cheer, And tell us of his gladness: ‘Our Lord the Woo is here, To free us from this curse, And banish ev'ry sadness!’”Leif repeated the three last lines again. It was easier to follow the habit, and better not to risk messing up or completely missing any lines. Though it was going well-enough so far. “The answ'ring Sparrow cries: ‘Woo comes to Kyth this day Amid the birds all flying.’ The finch trills in its sweetest tones: ‘Woo makes safe our winter homes; To him be all thanks given.’
The Partridge adds his note: ‘To the church I’ll fly, where for the Woo they’re crying. There near the Woo’fix blessed, I’ll build myself a simple nest, And sing my love undying.’”Leif took a deep breath, sat back down, and told Sieg, “Carol of the Birds - I know, reign in your shock that I would choose something so avian.” He smirked, then added, “Well, that’s the most obscure version I learned, anyway - there are multiple Carols of the Birds, which I suppose makes sense given Caroling day and the natural bird-associations with Woomas. A lot of them tend to be more about the first night, though, and...and I’m getting off-topic.” He leaned forward, arching his eyebrows at Sieg. “Don’t think you can distract me by letting me ramble on about Wooism - it’s your turn to impress with a rare song.” Leif is slightly nervous (as is his writer), but goes first in his duel of obscure hymns with Sieg ( Shinko). The song he sings is uhm. Tricky - as Leif says, there are multiple Carol of the Birds, and this one in particular seems to be an obscure translation of one particular version that has a more commonly-accepted translation...though, uhm, as far as I could tell, it did not come out even close to the same thing, so, I don't even. I couldn't find anyone singing this version of the song, but I did find a sweet midi file (as well as the original lyrics) here.

Morgaine would've commented on Elin's uncertain remarks about the nobility, but Clare returned in that moment, so the locksmith confined herself to a sympathetic smile. "Decided we were better off pacing ourselves, eh?" she remarked to Clare instead. "Some cider is probably a better move than more whiskey, at least this early on in the party. I-" She broke off as, to her surprise, Leif started singing. At first she wondered what might've prompted the normally shy, prickly archmage to do something that made himself the center of attention. However, then she noticed Sieg, and the mischevious grin on her son's face, and shook her head with amusement. She gave the archmage a brief applause and a wave, turning back to Clare and Elin as Sieg stood up to begin his own song. "Tell you what," the old locksmith said cheerily, "After Sieg and Leif are done showing off, why don't you and I sing, Clare? I'll buy your next round in return. And something non-alcoholic for you, Elin, if you care to join the fun as well." _______________ Sieg grinned, listening to Leif sing and applauding when he was finished. Listening to the archmage's explanation, Kirin's eyes took on a look of understanding. "I thought I'd heard that somewhere, but the lyrics sounded really different so it was throwing me off." Sieg chuckled. "I guess it's my turn then, hm? Alrighty, let's see..." After a moment of thought, the half-elf cleared his throat, and his own deep, clear voice rang about the room. " Little Bird, who made thee? Dost thou know who made thee? Gave thee life, and bid thee feed By the stream and o’er the mead;
Gave thee clothing of delight, Softest clothing, feathered, bright; Gave thee such a tender voice, Making all the vales rejoice? Little Bird, who made thee? Dost thou know who made thee? Little Bird, I’ll tell thee, Little Bird, I’ll tell thee: He is called by thy name, For he calls himself a Bird.
He soared the ancient winter sky; So on his wings our hope could fly. I, a child, and thou a bird, We are called by his name. Little Bird, Woo bless thee! Little Bird, Woo bless thee!He finished off, grinning cheerfully at Leif and Kirin. "That one is called 'Little Bird.' I could've picked something in Elvish, but well. Thought I'd spare you, since it's more fun if you can understand me." Glancing at Kirin, the half-elf added, "Alright then, Judge Mao, who won?" Kirin, caught by surprise, blinked for a moment. Then he grinned ruefully and shrugged. "Well both songs were nice. I'm not at all familiar with religious music, so I'm not sure that I'm the best to judge for obscurities." "Alack, guess we need a new judge," Sieg said mournfully, looking about the room. "Ah, there are so many uncultured Bernians in the room, wherever will we find a proper religiously conservative Corvid to be our impartial judge. Looks like most of them are otherwise occupied." "I suppose it would be too much to ask for either of you to accept a tie?" Kirin asked with amusement. As he spoke he absently ran the edge of his finger along the bones of the clay dragon's wings, creating blue ridges where the wing-fingers were. He stopped to inspect his work, wiping the wing with the silk where his finger had wobbled and made a wider blue smudge. Morgaine listens to Leif's song and applauds him, then invites Clare and Elin ( Gelquie) to sing with her once the boys are done- offering to buy Clare's next round if she plays along. Meanwhile, Sieg sings for Leiflet ( Tiger) and teases Kirin ( Killix) a bit. Kirin is amused by the banter but mostly keeps out of it. The song Sieg sang, if you're curious. The actual title is "Little Lamb."

Jeniver listened carefully as Ambrose stammered through his questions, not sure why he was even asking her this in the first place. But when he said he had similar abilities, her eyes went wide. She certainly didn't see that coming. Though now that she was thinking on it, didn't he ask her about visions of the future the last time she met him, back in Medieville? That would certainly explain a lot... "Oh, um, I just have to focus on who or where I want to see and I... see it," Jeniver explained, remembering to answer the question. "I can only see the present as far as I know. I don't think I've ever tried to see the future." Jeniver tells Ambrose ( Celestial) about her seer powers. Yay!

While the normal festivities of a Woomas party carried on in the rooms around her, Hope Crane Jade sat in an empty bedroom, secluded from the rest of the group. It was there that she entertained her child, a quiet baby who was nearing a year old. Everett Jade, Jr., a beautiful child with a thin halo of blonde hair, slept soundly in Hope’s arms, and though she wished she could join the party, it was much better for the entire party if Everett stayed asleep. Besides that, Hope wanted to spend a lot of time with her child. Her hand fluttered gently over her stomach, and she smiled down at it. Hope knew that Everett had another baby brother or sister coming, and she knew that after a while she would have to spend equal time with Everett and the new baby. She wanted to enjoy her time with just Everett while it lasted. Hope spent a lot of time lost in thought, cradling her child, before she heard a familiar voice, though it was barely a whisper. ”Your Highness – I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to intrude.”Hope looked up at the figure in the doorway, and smiled gently at the person. “You aren’t intruding, there’s no need to apologize. And,” she said quietly, shaking her head, “I’m not a princess anymore, there’s no need for ‘your highness’. Lady Hope will do fine.” Hope stood up, shifting Everett and trying to get a closer look at the man who had walked into the room. Though his voice and even his appearance were familiar, and she had a sinking feeling that she had seen the man before, Hope couldn’t place the man’s name. “I… I’m sorry. I don’t remember your name,” Hope said, smiling at him yet again, “I would curtsy, but...” She looked at the baby in her arms. Hope finally appears! With Everett Jr. (the son of Joffery ( PFA)). She sees Laurie ( Liou) and has a struggle remembering who he is. Oops.

Lady Hope was as gentle as always, which comforted Laurie, but also made his fear rise as he realised just how well he remembered her even after all that time. He nearly wished that she had asked him to leave her alone. She and her baby formed such a lovely, peaceful picture, though. Laurie felt a rush of almost maternal pride, and was reluctant to leave them despite the danger of the situation. He could sense her eyes on him, taking in his appearance, perhaps already making the connection with his past identity - the flush in his cheeks had not even faded entirely after the episode with the Grand Duke that he was already feeling warm again. He lowered his eyes and hunched his shoulders, shrinking. He was immensely relieved that she did not recall his name. "Oh, I'm... Lawrence, I beg your pardon. I'm a friend of Mrs Braham's. And there's no need to stand up, of course." He chanced another glance at the baby. "Do you not have anyone around to help you with your child?" he whispered. Laurie awkwards in front of Hopey( Lizzie) and asks if she's stuck with her kid for the whole night.

"Right. I see..." Ambrose nodded as he listened to Jeniver answer his question. He paused to let Leif and then Sieg sing, not wanting to talk over them, before he turned back to the Jade girl. "It's interesting, the differences. I think you're fairly lucky though. The present is already so vast but the future is...even more so. So being limited like that, it must be a blessing," his smile acquired a hint of sadness. "Though I'm sure control must help with that too." Alain, meanwhile, had watched Laurie go, letting out a soft laugh at the young man's attitude. He was still so scared, though it was hardly any wonder, given what he had done and what secrets he had spilled to Alain. But this was in the past and the Grand Duke was content to let it stay that way, especially since Laurie was a friend of Ambrose's. So he had turned to watch the carolling between the two Corvids, smiling slightly at their choices of song. And smirking widely at Sieg’s comment, though he decided to refrain from flustering the poor knight. He had already gotten his satisfaction from Laurie. Instead, Alain turned on his heel and headed for the bar where he had left the whisky. Taking a glass from the bar, he poured himself a small dram from the bottle. “You can enjoy the cider if you wish, Mrs. Braham, I have never had much of a taste for it. It is far too sweet,” he remarked, lifting the glass up to his lips and casting his eyes around the women. “Though I notice that this has already been indulged in. Be careful about mixing drinks, however, especially when planning to sing. That never works out,” he smirked. Ambrose speaks with Jeniver ( PFA) more about the seering, saying how she’s lucky to be limited. Meanwhile, Alain has no more trolling targets so he listens to singing before going to have a drink around Clare, Elin ( Gelquie) and Morgaine( Shinko).
