Hey, I'm fairly new here, but a friend and I wrote this random article about Weewoos, and it's gone through a few drafts and we've been TMGE'd a few times. I was hoping for some constructive criticism?

Okay, for clarification purposes are you just trying to submit it or do you want to get it into issue 650?

We've been submitting it for issue 650, and we know it's getting really late now, but we would still love any advice you may have!

Well I think part of your problem is that stories and articles for issue 650 generally need to be something really, really special. While there is nothing wrong with this article on it's own and it probably wouldn't have any trouble under most circumstances, it's sort of generic to be included in an anniversary issue. White Weewoo jokes and references are a dime a dozen in the Times, and especially in the landmark issues. I think part of your problem may be that the concept is too simplistic. You need to spice it up, make it something really original and cute.

Thank you so much for your feedback! Yeah, I think you're right; we'll have to brainstorm.

I think it's a really cute and creative article! I honestly couldn't find any glaring errors with it and I enjoyed reading it.
But like Shinko said, your main problem may be that you're trying to submit for issue 650. Generally, if you want to submit for a fiftieth issue, you need to do so maybe two months beforehand at the latest, as they do fill up very quickly. It should get in just fine if you're okay with it appearing in a regular issue.
Oh, and welcome to the forum! ^^

Yeah, I normally don't have any trouble getting into the regular issues, but I'm concerned that the quality of my writing simply isn't high enough for issue 650. It's quite frustrating, but I guess I'll just have to work on it! Or try to be more original with my subject of choice.
But thank you very much!! (:

Rest assured, it isn't the quality you have to worry about. ^^ In this case, TMGE means just that--the roster for issue 650 is entirely packed already and Droplet simply can't fit anything else in.
I think this stands a good chance for getting into a fiftieth issue if you submitted it a little earlier, if you feel like waiting until issue 700.

Oh D: so those other submissions I have in the system probably don't really have a chance? They were submitted fairly recently...

It's highly unlikely, I'm sorry to say. Were you and your friend aiming for the avatar? Because I still think this stands a good chance of being accepted for issue 700 if you submit about two months beforehand and specify that it's for issue 700.

Yeah, we were aiming for the avatar. We were thinking of just submitting it for Petpet Appreciation, and if it gets accepted, then we'll know that 650 is just full.
We probably won't save it for 700, just because of what Shinko said earlier?

Again, thank you!! We'll keep your advice in mind if we're still around for issue 692!

Yeah, we were aiming for the avatar. We were thinking of just submitting it for Petpet Appreciation, and if it gets accepted, then we'll know that 650 is just full. We probably won't save it for 700 If you want to write a follow-up to this article for the 700th issue, here's a general suggestion I can think of to give it a little more "oomph": Include some surprise or tension, something that would make people curious enough to keep reading. This article as a whole I find somewhat predictable. "Weewoos are good, and here is why." If I already agree that Weewoos are good, then I don't have much reason to read the whole article. If it were structured as a dialogue between two parties, for instance a Petpet shopkeeper persuading a customer to buy the last Weewoo in the shop, or a Weewoo fan trying to convince a Pawkeet fan that Weewoos are better, or even a convicted Weewoo's defense lawyer arguing in court that the Weewoo is innocent, then it might be more dynamic. There would be a question in the reader's mind as to how the dialogue is going to pan out. Basically, make it so that readers aren't just going "uh-huh." Make them go "ooh!"

Oh, those are cool ideas! I guess I'll have a year to think about that and flesh it out, haha. Thanks (:
