Hi guys (first post + thread, how exciting!). I finally found my way over here and wanted to ask a question on behalf of a friend who is trying to get in the NT for her first time.
She wants to write an article on how to effectively use Dress To Impress, which is a Certified Fan Site. In all my time on Neo since TNT began approving offsite links, I have never seen it mentioned in the Neopian Times, and if it was mentioned (beyond the Editorial), it is rare and not the focus of the article.
I think her idea is worthy of an article, but I told her I was skeptical that TNT would publish an article based on a fan site. What do you guys think? I'm just looking for other views before she starts writing and gets ahead of herself when there's a strong chance it could never be approved.

To be frank, I'm skeptical, too. I think TNT wants to keep Neopian Times articles centered on the central Neopets site itself, and articles with fansites as their focus seem like too much of a stretch. It seems like a more appropriate place for that kind of piece would be on the fansite itself, or maybe even a petpage (if it's a Certified Fan Site).

Dress to Impress hasn't been approved as an certified fan site, so I'm betting it won't be approved.

While I agree with the posts thus far, I do not think it would be harmful to ask the editorial on neopets. Perhaps there they can clarify not only for you and your friend, but the rest of the writers on Neopets.

I'll be honest in that I think you have good reason to be skeptical. I was surprised to see recommended fansites become a thing in the first place, but perhaps that was TNT's way of trying to keep the users as safe as possible (so they'd only really go to the links mentioned by TNT rather than trying other, less-safe websites recommended by users). That being said, I agree that they'd probably want to keep the NT Neo-centric and might discourage the backing of other websites, even one as safe as DTI. It's worth an ask, though. Did she ask Droplet (known as nt_editor on neo)?
