Ahaha, boy bands. I remember boy bands. Most of us were into them as children, despite claims to the contrary.
But for songs that defined my childhood... Well I was that nerd who had the Poke'mon The First Movie soundtrack. And listened to it. Endlessly. My parents had the patience of saints. XD

Breakingchains, it's okay, I've rediscovered that I still like those 90s boybands. Never going to get quite over the 90s. XD My childhood was actually most Charlotte Church, Kenny Loggins, and soundtracks from animated movies. I finally understood what this song was about around the time I turned fourteen, many tissues were needed: Return to Pooh CornerThis was from one of my favorite movies: The Last UnicornI swear, I heard this on the radio every time I was in the car for like three years. It sounds like my childhood to me, literally: All StarMy all-time favorite Charlotte Church song. And of course, the song that introduced me to Josh Groban: The Prayer

I don't know if I can get a representative picture, but I'll try to put in a few categories: - a bit of 80's rock
- a bit of weird turn-of-the-millennium stuff
- a bit of slightly less weird turn-of-the-millennium stuff
(by the way, Backstreet Boys > N*Sync ttly.)
- a bit of tacky anime theme tunes
- quite a bit of Disney
- also quite a bit of VeggieTales
-my sister did singing/performance stuff for most of my formative years, so the list goes on and on in all different directions. >_>

This is the earliest song I remember, because my dad always put the Take Five album on in the car whenever it was foggy, we lived in San Francisco then, in the early-mid 90s

My computer nearly had a heart attack trying to load this thread. So many imbedded videos on one page. XD

...Oops. xD *goes back to turn them into links* Sorry! Shinko: Yeah, I remember really loving some Pokemon songs, too! I liked Together Forever in particular, even though it's soooo corny. x3 While we're on cartoon music, the Powerpuff Girls had at least one incredibly odd CD--it was "Music Inspired By..." since the show itself had like maybe three songs ever. xD; So you ended up with all these really weird, mismatched bands and stuff like Devo doing a song about Mojo Jojo. In retrospect the whole CD seems really grating but I think I played it for like, months straight. xD (by the way, Backstreet Boys > N*Sync ttly.) OH IT IS SO ON

I used to listen to that CD obsessively, too. :'D Most of the songs are... weird, but there's some good ones on it. (I actually have Go Monkey Go on my iPod. >_> And Fight the Power. <_<) The second CD, Power Pop, was probably more awkward in hindsight for me though, as I realized only later that most of the songs have kind of this "girls are better than boys" theme to them, so uh... yeah. But yeah, I listened to those songs a lot, also the Pokémon songs (YEEEEAAAAH), and then mostly miscellaneous 70s/80s music that my parents used to play a lot. XD

The theme of the band is 'de-evolution' and they actually talk about monkeys a lot in their songs. XD Also Mark Mothersbaugh does a LOT of soundtrack work for cartoons- most famously the Rugrats theme. I loved the Shonen Knife song on there, too. So, what was I listening to as a kidlet. oh! This was the first album I ever bought with my own money, on cassette. Then I found out she dropped the F bomb and hid it. XD I think I would have been 10 or 11: I liked the normal Disney stuff, but the thing I really played the heck out of was: Thaaat got banned in my house pretty quickly. Oh! and the Rankin Bass version of Wind in the Willows Oh and we had this 10 commandments musical with like, non-secular carebears:

XD I'm still astonished that the show managed to capitalize on an entire soundtrack of commercial jingles! The were so friggin catchy, even if they were cheesy as all cuss. And of course there was this downright cruel piece of work from that episode that made every single young poke'fan cry, and you will never convince me it didn't.

Aaaaugh I love The Time Has Come ;__; Also Soko ni Sora ga Aru Kara and vocalized Umi. The Pokemon theme song is hugely nostalgic as well. As a kid I didn't listen to a lot of music haha, I'm most nostalgic for songs from Disney's Hunchback and Tarzan and Mulan, and Christmas songs and the Andrew Lloyd Webber Joseph musical.
