It's fine, we can stop for now.
Ahaha, all aboard the petpet express! Reminds me of the giant drackonacks from the Darkest Faerie game. I was like "people keep these as pets?!?!"
Thank you! Ayame is that non-combatant female character I mentioned before. She's more or less the boss of all the boys for a good chunk of this part of the series, and she likes to feign haughty imperiousness because doing so actually gets Gary to loosen up and laugh a bit. She's the only person in the story so far to be in direct authority over him that he actually considers a friend rather then deferring to them as a superior.

I love the idea of giant Petpets. I use that concept a lot, actually. They make for great monsters and beasts of burden/transportation.
She sounds like an awesome character!

Ohh, okay. xD That works too. Maybe I'm just OCD about matching up times with 15-minute hour increments. <.<

Well, I decided to end five minutes early. 285! Not bad at all! Blynn laughed. “Apology accepted, I think!”
“Eeeeurgh.” Hyren tried to wipe the saliva off of his face and wiped his hands on Gwyneth’s fur. As much as he hated when she did that, it was much better than if he had upset her.
Captain Tuan approached them. “Is there anything else we can do to help you?” he asked. “We know how it feels to lose a crew member and travel Neopia looking for them.”
“It’s not fun,” Hoban piped up.
Hyren mounted Gwyneth behind his sister and shook his head. “No. You’ve already done more than enough for us. Thank you.”
Tuan bowed. “May good fortunes accompany you on your journey, and may you find the ones you love.”
The Grundo swallowed the lump in his throat. “I sure hope so.”
“Are we gonna head straight to Brightvale?” Blynn asked as they descended the gangplank and trudged down the dock. In spite of Gwyneth’s injuries, she seemed fine with walking. “Hoban said it’s about a day’s journey by land, factoring in sleep.”
Hyren looked at the bustling port town ahead of them. He wanted so badly to keep going, to push himself to his limits and beyond. Every moment spent with Terra’s fate unknown ate at him. It felt like the longer he waited, the farther away she drifted from him.
But he couldn’t keep setting himself up for failure, and he knew his limits now. And he couldn’t afford to test Blynn’s or Gwyneth’s. Drawing in a breath, he sat up a little straighter and smiled. “No. Let’s stock up on supplies first. We could use some good food for the trip.”
“All right!” Blynn nudged Gwyneth’s ribs and the Ganuthor plodded forward.

Stopped early too. 425! Xee sighed. He still felt ill at ease in these illustrious surroundings. Being surrounded by so much silk embroidering and expensive jewelry made him feel positively drab by comparison in his uniform. Of course, he had every right to be here. As the apprentice to the court historian, he was technically considered a member of King Talren’s court. Ethel could have come too, had she wished, but she seldom did. She claimed the time could be better put to working.
True enough, but Xee had a promise to keep.
“Admiring all the pretty ladies come to court for the Month of Celebrating?” a lot, throaty voice inquired. Xee glanced at the speaker out of the corner of his eyes, inclining his head automatically.
“My prince,” he said diffidently. In an undertone, he added, “You know, I'm starting to think you only make fun of me because I can’t retaliate.”
Prince Hagan chuckled. “Of course. Anyone else who suggested such a thing to you would have gotten their nose bit off. Royal privilege has it’s perks.”
The lupe made a face. “All this pomp and circumstance. How many banquets are there to be this month? How much money is being spent on them?”
“I don’t know,” Hagan admitted. “My father did not furnish me with that information. But I know why he’s doing it; he wants to present the image that things are normal. The Advent Banquets are tradition, after all. Breaking tradition would make it seem like something was wrong.”
“Something is wrong, and we both know it,” Xee hissed. The green skeith’s eyes were clouded.
“Try telling Father that. He doesn’t listen to anyone anymore, not even me. I don’t know if he’s changed, or if somehow I have…”
“Maybe it’s both,” Xee suggested, though it was only partially true. Hagan hadn’t changed, not really. He was the same as he’d been when he trained for the ceremonial royal knighthood. Actually, more to the point, he’d been kept from changing, like most pets who entered the academy eventually did. It was a fine school, the best in Neopia, but it had a bad habit of turning pets hard and cold. Being removed from the rest of the world and surrounded only by other intellectuals gave one a somewhat skewed interpretation of the world.
That, for better or for worse, was why Xee forced himself to attend these godforsaken parties. Much though he disliked the extravagance, he needed the social interaction. Especially given his predisposition towards fits of rage and introversion.

Ooh, I really like your characterization of Hagan. Poor Xee. xD
Shall we go again?
