After a couple questions on another board *cough*, I figured it'd be a pretty good type of question to ask the whole forum. What is your favorite site character (or several if you can't decide) on Neopets and why? (of course you can include any number of aspects such as how you characterize them in your own writing/arting/fantasizing in addition to how they behave on-site, but be sure to mention the reasons) I'll also repeat my own here: Kougo because he's awesomeThis is a very difficult question because I don't fanboy a particular character very often and most of the characters I really enjoyed (Hoban from Cyodrake's Gaze, Katya from Treasure Keepers, etc.) all got very little screentime (at least lasting screentime when compared to stars like Jazan and Hanso). and that's not at all the reason I wanted to include them in a written NT work sometimeBut if I had to pick, probably one of those two because they seem to have really eccentric personalities, I like that Hoban has more influence than he seems to realize (or he fully realizes and is just super immature about it), and Katya is super mysterious and seems to know a lot more than she lets on. (or at least that's how I characterized her).

To be honest, when it comes to Neopets, I base my favorites off a lot of what I've read in the NT. When TNT hits the mark with a character through ambiguity, backstory, quirks, or whatever--they inspire tons of NT writers to pick up where they left off. So most of my faves tend to be the ones who have a lot of stuff about 'em in the NT. For an all-time favorite I'm gonna have to say Xandra. She's got more shades of gray than the average Neopian villain, and that rocks. :3 IMO, the best villains are the ones who are convinced they're doing what's right. And her motives raise some interesting questions about the purpose of the faeries, which can be interpreted and expanded upon in so many ways. There's also a bunch of characters I love just for their character designs. Taelia, Nabile, Lisha, Hoban, lots of the Maraquan warriors, Ilere...the list goes on.

I know some might say he's a tad overrated, but I'm going to say Hanso. I love morally grey characters who do wrong things, but who still have a very good heart. He's smarmy and sarcastic, which I love, but he knows when to be serious as well. No character made me laugh as hard or get more emotionally upset than him (gosh, when he was frozen in stone, I got legit upset. Dorky, I know). But he's a very interesting character to play with and I always love a good Brynnso fic. And this is coming from someone who really doesn't like romance, either. Their relationship is done subtly enough that it's actually kind of cute and I like that a lot. The one that is currently in the Times I got to see chapter by chapter since the author is a friend of mine. She had to rush at the end to hit the duedates for our group submission and I have not seen the ending quite yet, but it's quite a fun (and very dark) ride.

*prods current avvie* That should probably be a pretty good hint, lol.
In all seriousness, though, while I can say with certainty that Brynn's my favorite, I have a bit of a harder time explaining just why. Hmm... I'm generally drawn toward noble-hearted characters such as knights, and especially knights as I enjoy that style of fantasy setting. For some strange reason, I also seem to have a tendency to pick out either the really "tough girl" character in a story or the "sweet and innocent" girl as my favorite (and I do mean girls specifically... at least in works done by other people. From among my own OC's I tend to end up picking a male character as my favorite. No idea why.) On a more individual note, I think I most like Brynn's complex personality and relationships. She's fierce, stubborn and independent, but also has a softer side and is willing to see other sides of people that not everyone catches (even if she doesn't always know just how to deal with those kinds of people). Xandra was a little off the mark when she said that Brynn only saw the world in "black and white," because if that were true then she wouldn't have given Hanso the time of day in the first place, but it's that ambiguity in understanding and action (combined with awesome noble kick-butt knight stuff) that makes her so interesting. It also helps that she and Hanso make a complex and incredibly fun pair, both in the platonic and the romantic sense :3
Of course, there are some other, completely different characters up on my "well-liked" list as well. Kanrik's incredibly intriguing for his moral ambiguity; Hannah's interesting for the same reason combined with her sassy confidence; Isca's loyal, kind and brave (and quite possibly the Neopian character most like me, minus the bits about prophetic dreams and being gutsy enough to defy the king's orders)
...Parodyham, you're talking about the series Second Chance, aren't you? That is an amazing series and I adore it completely, you have no idea o.o *really needs to remember to send that author a fanmail PM*

Jeran. Like that surprises anyone. As for why... I joined Neopets right after the Meridell plot, so all the Meridell plot people pretty much all over. And I just liked the character, his design and personality, and grew rather attached.

I'm a HUGE fan of the Citadel characters, because their stories look at very serious themes. Here's the short version. (I could go on for hours if I really wanted to.) My favorite characters are definitely Lord Darigan, Master Vex, General Galgarrath, and Sally. I adore Citadel history. It's so powerful and much deeper than you'd expect, bringing up questions about what makes good and evil, and whether actions could be considered justified if they harm innocents. Master Vex in particular shows the importance of doing what is right, even if it means allying with those who hurt you or standing up to tyrants at the risk of losing your own life. And oh, Sally, dear Sally! Such kindness and genuine trust, which saved Darigan, who stopped the war—one small person can change history, and no act of kindness is wasted. For me, the Citadel characters explore the idea of patriotism and morality a lot better than anything else in the site could allow me to. And I really like that.

(Even though it's been a week since someone posted here, I figured I'd put my two cents in.)
I've always really liked Jhudora. I don't know why I originally liked her, but I wrote a story with her about seven years, and then have spent a lot of time fleshing out her character in my NT writings. I like that she's seen as this evil "threat," but no one ever catches her doing anything wrong. So I've always envisioned her more as a crotchety, sarcastic, short-tempered person, rather than evil.

Darigan. It'll always be Lord Darigan. I thought he'd be a bad guy during the first Meridell plot, but I jumped ship once Meridell ended up being in the wrong. Plus, in the second Meridell plot, he was a surprisingly fleshed-out character - he was never really evil (aside from the Orb corrupting him somehow (because TNT wanted him to be the final boss no matter who won *sigh*), and I still stick by his side today. I also like Kass, since he's a viciously realistic portrayal of a fascist dictator, which is kinda surprising for a "kid's" site. His dealings with the Three also fleshed out his character a bit - it's implied he was never a good person (and may have had some hand in Lord Darigan's fall), but the Three molded him into a total monster willing to kill/imprison anyone who disobeys his command, even if they're a kid (from the Whack-A-Kass Neopedia article). </abbr>

Sir Korinesta.
He's little known, but this guy just awes me for so many reasons.
He's an archer.
He doesn't take crap from those who make fun of him.
He's willing to forgive and teach.
He actually uses his knowledge to his advantage.
This guy needs more neopedia articles about him ;-;

Kaaaaaass. I was a fan back then, still a fan. Though Kanrik was pretty sweet. It was his outfit. I loved it. But Kass is still my fav.

I've been asking her to come here, but she hasn't given in quite yet, lol. She's an amazing writer, though. I honest to goodness /love her work.

Jeran is one of my favorites, being my number one since I blush when I see him. I rank my faves according to numbers but I can't remember them.
