Kristy set down the tray of hot chocolate on a table and held back a sigh. She loved the yearly gathering at Grandfather Stal's manor, but tensions were running high as everyone waited for the announcement of the annual Snow War. A few squabbles had broken out already, and no one even knew what team they would be on. She broke up the latest squabble by handing everyone involved cups of hot chocolate and telling them to save their energy for the actual fight. It was Kristy's first year as a hostess for this grand event and she had very much enjoyed herself so far. Her co-host was Avery, and they had spent much of the last few days readying the playing field, also known as the expansive plot of land behind the manor. There would be many special surprises for the players this year. From across the room, Carrie caught her eye. It was time. She hurried over to the middle of the room where Carrie was waiting. “Excuse me!” Kristy called over the din of voices. “May I have your attention, please?” The noise of conversation died as everyone turned expectant eyes to them. “It is time for the announcement of teams!” Kristy cried merrily. “So, take it away, Carrie!” Carrie grinned as she listed off the names in Team 1: CelestialMostly Harmless (flufflepuff)PixieSelmLayla "Nimbus" KarimiiconKozmaThe teammates gathered together, clamoring excitedly. After a little work, they were hushed and Carrie read off the names in Team 2: GelquieTigerDanielleCoasterLizzie♥ AzzieGinz ❤The teammates of Team 2 gathered together and cheered. Kristy led Team 1 to one side of the room, and Carrie led Team 2 to the other side. They unrolled a map in front of the teams, telling them that they should plan their strategy now, picking where they would build their fort, snowball ammunition stations, place the catapult, and food store, and take up defensive positions. Now, the game was in the teams' hands. Now that the teams are announced, the planning phase of the game goes into effect. The board is strictly for Role Playing, do not discuss where you are putting your 'ships' on it, as the other team will see. Keep all planning discussions to the Team Private Message that will go around soon. Feel free to begin posting in the RP now.

((Might as well get this going))
Carrie was thrilled to be sharing the hosting duties with Kristy for this year's Snow War. It's not that she didn't like manning the whole shebang solo, but at least this way she'd only have one team blaming her for everything that went wrong, as opposed to two. In the corner of Grandfather Stal's living room, she sat in a closed circle with team two, as they pored over the blank map.
"You guys need to be smart about where you place your landmarks," she whispered, hoping the other team wasn't eavesdropping. "I need to lord this win over Kristy. And I can't lord it if you guys don't win. So win."
As her team assured her that indeed they would win, Carrie glanced over towards team one. They were a nefarious bunch, that lot. This year's snow war was going to be intense; of this, Carrie was sure.

Pixie Entwuff drew up the hood of her warm parka to push the chilling breeze off her cheeks. Her gold pigtails bobbed as she dashed excitedly across the lawn of Grandpa Stal's Manor. After the wait, and some pleasant hot chocolate, she was ready to plot with the rest of her team. This year, she had resolved to actually hit someone with a snowball. Someone who was actually on the other team.
She found the blank white expanse of the snow to be overpowering, but monotonous. She stared blankly at the ground for a spell as she waited for the rest of her team to join her, until she had a strange consciousness of the feeling of being pelted with snowballs, which brought her back around instantly. This would be war. This would be epic. This was almost certainly going to hurt.

The teammates of Team 2 gathered together and cheered.Coaster continued to cheer after Carrie had rounded up the team, slowly transitioning into a chant of "snow! snow! snow!~", followed by a sip of hot chocolate during which he listened to Carrie's remarks. Then he continued: "win! win! win!" Snowballs were hit-or-miss for Coaster (usually miss when he was the one throwing), but that didn't stop him from rolling around in the snow and building and defending ice structures on his own time. Unfortunately, inclement weather tended to be a lot easier to defend a snow fort from compared to people. Especially the type of nasty, spiteful, malicious people who had already killed him during the NTWF Games. (Forbidden Games and Interactive necromancy was required for that one, and Coaster was overwhelmingly relieved when he heard that Jay would not be participating in this war, nor was anyone else around from that pack other than the one who, as he was later told, was killed after a mutiny.) As the clamour of excitement gradually subsided to the murmur of team planning, Coaster's vision drifted out toward the field outside, where another blanket of icy mortar was being added to the stockpile of blocks. "Snow. "

Team One, the team that Kristy was assisting seemed to have the whole planning thing well in hand, or at least, she hoped they did. They seemed to have understood her instructions, which was always good. Across the room, Carrie kept giving her team furtive looks. Kristy stuck her tongue out at Carrie as she glanced over again.
"Guys, seriously, win this thing, for me. I'll love you forever. I might even bake cookies. I have a feeling my dear, wonderful, pain in the borovan co-host is never going to let me forget it if Team 2 wins," she begged the team.
She resisted stealing a look at Team 2 and Carrie again. It was going to be a long war for her, and she wasn't even fighting.

((C'mon guys, let's make this active!))
Out in team two's snow fort, Carrie blew on her hands and early wished they could have a fire without melting the aforementioned snow fort. It was blusteringly cold outside, and her team was on edge as they plotted their first attack. What to target-- the other team's armory, or food stores, or perhaps the members themselves? No one could agree; everyone wanted to attack different things.
"C'mon guys," Carrie said after a while. "We have to just pick, or we'll lose for sure! Enough talking. Let's go and pelt the other team!"
WIth that, she stood and began to leave the snow fort, dearly hoping that she'd rallied her team enough that they'd follow her, and she wouldn't be going out to attack alone.

Tiger peered over the wall of the snow fort, her breath fogging up the bottom half of her glasses. The air smelled crisp and clean and she wasn't going to have to shovel any of this snow. The wind was a whipping rather intensely - it wasn't too cold for Tiger with her fur, conveniently based on that of a Siberian tiger at the moment, but it was a hindrance to her vision. Tiger already had poor eyesight, and the snow billowing over the field behind Grandpa Stal's estate like errant sea spray wasn't helping.
"What is this, snow battleship?" she muttered, before brushing snow off of her paws and creeping out into the snow. The canteens in her pockets weighted her coat; Tiger had been sure to stock up on hot, sweet, mini-marshmallow-filled hot chocolate before heading out.
Hm. Themeatic liquids. This was turning into Color Clash all over again.

Kozma watched as Tiger wandered out onto the field. He chuckled to himself and flung a few snowballs her way before disappearing behind a mound of snow.

Lizzy rubbed a mitten-clad hand on their arm roughly as they walked outside and gazed at the snowy estate grounds, and opened their mouth to complain about the cold.
"You know guys, I really think we should stay inside, I'm already getting kind of c-," their words, called to any of their family members, cut off sharply with a screech as they slipped on a patch and fell, face first, into the snow. They lay there, and with their voice muffled by the snow, said, "cold. I'm getting kind of cold."
Lizzy was excited, but they also weren't looking forward to spending their time freezing. They rolled on their side to try and get out of the snow, and, shivering, brought their body up enough to sit down where they had fallen, hoping nobody had seen. They wouldn't be able to live this one down.

Sporty peeked out from behind a snow armory, careful to keep herself hunched close to the ground all inconspicuous and sneaky-like. This probably wasn't quite necessary, considering how the light but windy snowfall was already lending a bit of obscurity to the spacious field, but she wasn't about to take any chances. Besides, acting inconspicuous and sneaky-like was half of the fun.
Her personal strategy was simple: Hit the members of the other team without getting hit herself. Well, okay, that was more the basic point of the game than a strategy, but hey, she had to start somewhere. Anyway, she figured that a bit of stealth could only help her and the other members of Team One.
Sporty noticed a flash of movement behind a nearby structure, on her side of the field. Deciding that it would be best to head a bit closer to the midline anyway, she grabbed a few good snowballs from the armory for later and made a quick (but stealthy!) dash to join her teammate.

Pixie spotted her teammates over by another snowball armory. With the clump of snow she was in the process of packing still in her hand, she ran over to the other armory and began to restock there. She crouched in the dugout, handing off snowballs to Kozma and Sporty. The rest of Winter Solstice could throw more rapidly at the other team.
Her strategy, because her snowballs never made their mark, was to make snowballs very quickly and give them to those with better arms for throwing. If someone came near, she would still try to pelt them, even though she usually wound up with a face full of snow and misplaced glasses for her efforts.

"Lizzy! What are you doing down there?" Azzie ran outside to where her teammate was sitting. "Is there a nice view from there or something?" She pulled her hat back over her ears and ran on the spot a bit. It really was freezing out. Her nose and wings were already pretty numb. "Anyway, shouldn't we get to our fort?" she asked Lizzy. "Before the other team does, and sneakattacks us?"

Lizzy nodded at Azzie, and stood up again.
"Be careful, Az, it's a little slippery," they said, reaching for their friend's hand, "let's go protect our fort."
Looking for their phone, they realized they left it inside, along with their hot chocolate. Walking forward a little, they squinted against the snow, the blinding white leaving marks on their vision.

Pixie had a sudden idea that would either work wondrously or horribly.
She adjusted her thin knit gloves, and after making a large set of snowballs for the other Sols, she dived into the nearest snowbank.
She began to dig a tunnel to the other side.

Sporty grinned in anticipation as she accepted an extra snowball from Pixie and nodded her thanks. Her armload was about full by now, and she was ready to start putting all this lovely packed snow to use.
Shifting most of the snowballs to the crook of one arm, she took one in her throwing hand and peeked around the side of the armory. Her grin turned half-maniacal as she just spotted two of the SNOWCATS!! trudging along the field, and she lobbed the snowball in their direction before ducking back behind the armory and turning back toward Kozma and -
"...Um, where did Pixie go?" Sporty looked around in confusion for a moment before spotting the rapidly deepening tunnel in the nearby snowbank. "Ooh, nifty."
