You trek up a ways on the road when you come up to a... strange looking house. Well, not incredibly strange. The house looks fairly normal if a little run-down. The strangest part seems to be the various ghostly jack-o-lanterns and floating ghostly objects in places around the yard and on the front porch. One in particular seems to be a bit unstable; not exactly shaking or moving around, but it can't seem to stay right up.
Undeterred, you walk up to the house and knock on the door. There seems to be no answer at first. You try again. Nothing. You peer inside the window. It appears to be nearly pitch black inside, with the exception of a few floating glowing orbs providing little light to the room. You can't seem to see anyone in that lighting, though.
You turn around to leave when you suddenly see something whoosh towards you... and pass right through you. Startled by the display and feeling chilled and uncomfortable, you shiver before turning around to face your assailant. As you do, you find that suddenly, the glowing orbs inside are growing brighter, until the room inside is well lit. The door also creaks open, though you don't immediately see who is opening the door. Struggling to get a hold of yourself, you peer inside.
In the house, you see a ghost frantically arranging and fiddling with things, seeming to be in quite a hurry. The ghost glances over to you before motioning for you to enter.
"Come in, come in! Sorry, sorry, so sorry! Oh, today have been SO busy, so many visitors, so many guests, so many things to take care of, can't slack on it, can't slack! I was outside rearranging the pumpkins. Didn't even see you come in! Don't worry don't worry don't worry, I still have candy! Don't worry! Just hold on!"
If you didn't know better, you'd think that the ghost seemed to be short of breath. Entering, you take a look around the house while the ghost rearranges things (adding a light mist to the room, arranging some lights to be behind denser areas of mist, etc). The living room has obviously seen better days, but a little cleaning up, and it could look comfy. There's a fireplace on the opposite wall, directly away from the entrance, which seems to be polished quite nicely. On top of the fireplace is a vase and some photos. You recognize one of them as the living version of the ghost as well as some people you don't know. They must have been his family. You absentmindedly wonder where they are. You notice that the ghost is trying to create a ghostly blue fire inside. There's also a coffee table with a few couches surrounding it. In the centerpiece of the coffee table is an empty bowl, though it seems see-through. On the high walls seems to be a blue wallpaper, with various kinds of flowers painted on in an aesthetic manner. The ghost rushes by a section... Wait, did those flowers move? Also along the walls are various cabinets and bookshelves, some with items like cups or vases or other things. They don't look like anything you'd find in stores anymore.
Finally, the ghost rifles through a drawer before concentrating and pulling out some bags of candy. You resist a sigh of relief when you find that they appear to be corporeal. (Except for that one bag, but hey.) He then rushes over to the coffee table.
"There we go, there we go!" the ghost proclaims. "Another moment, and then..."
Holding the other bags in one arm, he tips one bag over the bowl to let that candy fall in. But the candy, being corporeal, just falls through. The ghost gasps and tries to stop it, but he fumbles and ends up knocking over the bowl and losing grasp of the candy. There are various crashes and candy is scattered everywhere. You shield your eyes, not wanting to get candy in your eye.
You open them not long later, and there's a bunch of candy on the floor, although you suspect that there might be more hidden among the objects. The ghost stares in shock before smiling at you sheepishly.
"Uh... Sorry about that. You know, just... So many things! I'll try to get that picked up, but it's quite a bit. I don't know how..."
The ghost pauses for a moment before turning to you.
"Um... Hey! Maybe you could help me pick it up? Or at least enough for your bag. Don't worry, the candy's all wrapped! Looks like most of the common candies made it onto the floor. But I think some of the rarer ones went into hiding. Especially the ghostly ones. They... Go places. But hey, tell you what. You pick it up, it's yours! ...Well, I mean, save some of the common candies for others. But you could see the rarer candies as a sort of... scavenger hunt! Could be fun, right?"
The ghost nods their head extremely fervently. You look at the mess before you. You could probably just take a handful of candy and go, even if you decide not to look for the rarer candies or help clean up. But if you do... Well, the ghost seems really eager to please. You wonder what else is in store here.
Well, either way, there you are, standing at the doorway. What's your move?
