Within the war-torn City of Legunis, two brothers make their trade as fake magicians, performing shows for anyone who has money and the capacity to watch. With a motto of "All strings attached", Griffin and Jacques pride themselves on their ability to unconvincingly make magic happen. And all this to conceal the fact that they are real mages, in hiding from the war that surrounds them. With the threat of conscription for all magic users looming, what better way to hide than right under the army's noses?
That is until Jacques accidentally reveals himself and the brothers must leave everything behind to flee from the horrors of an un-winnable battle. Escaping Legunis is only their first step, as a whole expanse of unexplored territory lies in wait, until they unknowingly lead themselves right into the heart of the war they had tried for so long to evade.
For Griffin and Jacques, it becomes just a case of living life one day at a time.

Phew, finally found my plot and got it written out! That took way longer than usual, but I think a lot of things just snuck up on me at the start of October, and kind of made it impossible to get anything done when I wanted them to. But I just really needed to get this written so that I could start thinking about how things will go for it during the next month. I like to plan a fair bit of a my story, I usually write down some bullet points of where I want the story to go, and then write a little bit about the characters so that I at least have some kind of of an outline when I begin in November. And getting the basic synopsis done is the beginning of that process.
So anyway, onto the actual story! I had a hard time thinking up something this year, but no harder than most others, really. Last year was different, because I knew what I wanted to do almost instantly. But all the other years i've had to have a serious think about what exactly I want to write about. I'm so bad at thinking up plots! XDD But I usually start with a word or phrase and then work from there. This year is was 'magician'. And I was originally going to do just a normal magician and leave it at that, but then I thought that magicians pretending to be fake because they're mages would be a cool twist!
And I always have a love/hate relationship with world-building. It's fun, but soooo time-consuming, and I just didn't have the effort to do it this year. And my NaNo world of two years ago just seemed to fit with my idea so well, so i'm using that. They're completely different stories and characters, just with the same basic setting. And I never finished that NaNo two years ago, so I figured it'd be fine! =D
So for posterity here, this is the world i'm using (taken from the synopsis of my previous nano. I was originally going to include it as part of the synopsis of this nano, but then decided against it, because I just want these stories to be entirely different. And this story is going to be more character-driven than the other.)
So that's the setting. Character-wise, I literally only have the two brothers figured out! I know that I need a lot more, but usually I just develop a couple and then form the rest as I go along and need them! But I feel like I need at least one semi-important female character, so i'll try and think of something to incorporate.
But Griffin is primarily a fire mage, and is the older brother of the two. As such, he can be fiercely protective, but is also a strong voice of reason. He often has to hold Jacques back and keep him in check. Despite being the older brother, he is smaller than Jacques in build, something that his brother relishes and will often gloat about, although Griffin doesn't seem to mind much.
Jacques focuses mostly on water magic, and is the younger of the two. He is quick to anger but somehow manages to remain mostly positive. He is the 'star' of their magic show, aptly named 'Jacques of all trades', and it was his idea to start the show in the first place. He can be very flighty when things get really tough and is always the one most intent on escaping conscription. His abilities are less refined than Griffin's as he had less time to train them before they had to be hidden.
Both boys have black hair, but Jacques' is considerably longer - about neck-length. They'll often wear cloaks and dark purple colours as their performance clothes. I imagine Griffin to be about 22 and Jacques around 18.
And there it is! =D
I'm so glad to finally have a synopsis written and done. Now I can start the more in-depth stuff and be ready for NaNo to finally begin. Very excited!

Many were the days in which cities prospered under the ruling of Gods, made sentient from the natural elements. Kingdoms were built and rulers appointed, each one praying for their benevolent leaders to grant them a peaceful reign. As such, the weather, the ground and the the seas remained in their favour. That was until, spreading a contagion over the leading empire as a distraction, the God of darkness destroyed the dusk. For the Gods of Lagunia, dusk was a transitional time during which their raw, destructive energy was reduced; a daily temporal process that restricted them of their full potential. Without it, and with power unrestrained, Lagunia was at their mercy.
Years had passed since the destruction of dusk and the banishment of the God of darkness to faraway lands unknown. Without the darkness to blind their jealousy and rage, the Gods had laid waste to the Kingdoms around them. Only one City remains, fighting a bitter War against foes they couldn’t hope to possibly overcome.
