Preface
I wasn't sure I would do NaNo this year. A couple months ago, I actually decided I wouldn't, because let's face it, I've tried many times, but it usually doesn't go very well. Sometimes I get really pumped up during October, but by the time November finally comes around, I've lost most of my motivation. Sometimes I get busy, and as soon as I fall behind, I get discouraged. I always tell myself I'll catch up, but the truth is I tend to fall behind more and more until I stop trying altogether. Whatever the reason, I tend to fail.
The only year I "won" was the first time I tried, but I'm not very proud of what I produced. My novel was not only cliché and terribly written (both of which are actually acceptable in NaNo, I think), but I was so afraid the story I had thought of wouldn't be enough to last for 50k words, that I padded it with fluff and probably ended up writing more boring irrelevant stuff than actual plot. I reached the word count by the deadline, but most of my ideas went unwritten. Success? XD
So why, Ginz? Why try again?
Well, I'm glad you asked! I don't promise this year will be any different, actually. I might still give up within a week, who knows? But you know what? This year I have time. Unless something unforeseen happens, this year I'll have more free time during November than I've had in years. Not doing NaNo this time around would feel like such a wasted opportunity. I've at least got to try. And I've learned a lot from past experiences. Maybe this time I'll finally get it right. No promises, but still.
My novel (This is where the fun part starts)
So, my idea this year is pretty simple. I want to do sort of what Disney does, of taking a fairy tale and basing a story around it. So I want to do that with the Princess and the Pea, and make it the kind of story you'd expect from a Disney movie, except in novel form. I think it could be pretty fun! =D
I'm not planning ahead too much, because I want to save that excitement for when the time comes to actually write it; but that's the general idea, and I feel it opens up to so many possibilities for plot and character development, and everything. We'll see how it goes. ^_^
