Shana tova to all my Jewish friends, and happy Thursday to all my not Jewish friends. Reasonable new year to all my Jewish enemies, and fairly pleasant September 5th to all my not Jewish enemies. If you're not Jewish, but would like to get another new year in before December, shana tova to you too.
Rosh Hashana baking was delegated to me, which is strange, because my family doesn't usually do Rosh Hashana baking. So I made rugelach. Two different types of rugelach, in fact. The standard raisin-walnut (actually raisin-pecan, because we were out of walnuts) and an improvised apple-honey type. I also made challah, and I never want to make challah again. I am so glad that I didn't have to braid it.
There was actually a lot of leftover dough. I made three smallish loaves, and there's still a whole blob of dough in the refrigerator to be baked when I have overcome my fear of challah dough.
So, anyway...
*Hands out challah and rugelach*

Yum, I'll take some rugelach. I'm not Jewish, but have a happy Rosh Hashana!

Shana Tova Umetukah, Yoyti! Have a happy Rosh Hashana.
I'm not Jewish, but I'm tempted to try baking rugelach, that sounds good. =D

That's it. Get them, one rugelach at a time, until the entire world is hooked on Jewish pastries!
BUAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Soon the world of baked goods shall be mine!

I know it's not the right holiday, but while you're baking... What filling do you want? Prune? Apricot? Poppy? Ricotta? ... Poison? Pick your poison. Cyanide? Arsenic? Old lace? (Ricotta hamentashen are surprisingly good. Especially when topped with chocolate chips.)
