Hello I’m thinkin about what society in altador was like when the altador cup became a big event bc like. Didn’t the citizens of altador cherish their city so much that nobody dared cause damage bc they all put their heart into building it?? So like. What I’m getting at is imagine after the first year they held the altador cup (which remember was canonically not long after the whole city got restored back into existence or whatever happened w that idk) just the absolute chaos that tourists ensued and how much nobody was expecting this and oh maaaan imagine as the years go on and the cup becomes an even more highly anticipated event and now altador has to look into building muuuuch more housing and hotels and the such just for the summer season and ok I’ll stop now When you say the first Altador Cup do you mean when the sport was first created (about 1k years ago) or when the first Altador Cup we know it as now started up? In the first case I'd imagine there wouldn't be any tourists and it would have been all home grown teams participating, it wasn't until it came back 1k years later and saw how much the lands started communicating with one another did they decide to make it into a global event. In the second case, I'd imagine for the first Altador Cup that wouldn't be the issue because it was new. There was an increase in visitors no doubt, but I imagine it would have stayed mostly tamable. It would be by the second year that things would have started getting bigger. Because there would now have been a year's time for each land's people to get to know the team & athletes thus want to show their support by going to their games, the Haunted Woods would be eager to defend their title while the other lands eager to be the next winners, and just in general be able to plan & schedule in advance that June was Altador Cup month. Luckily this would have given Altador a year to also plan in advance. While they would have been able to handle the first year they probably did see a few issues occur in small doses they knew would become bigger if they didn't resolve them by next year (filled up hotels, overpacked streets, some visitors not being respectful & rude, etc.). I can see for the athletes Altador building an "Athlete Village" for them to stay away from the crowd to rest & practice but still nearby if they want to go into the city. I also imagine a temporary expansion to the city would have been set-up just to handle the load of visitors (and likely overtime these expansions would be made into actual permanent structures, but at that time they just needed something functional). I imagine they would probably also have to get creative, like I can imagine Marak's people offering lodging space to aquatic species, Fauna and Florin helping set up camp sites in the beautiful nearby woods & forest to keep hotels & the streets from getting overloaded, and other council members working with citizens to help them rent out extra living space they may have. This all would be a great idea for a Neopian Times article! Can we please do NT takeover next summer with “behind the scenes”/social impact of the altador cup as the theme 🥺🥺🥺🥺 it would be so fun w like everyone expanding on how the AC and its popularity affects altador every year and ooooh it might be interesting to think abt how the locals in altador feel regarding the culture and history of their city and trying to preserve it/prevent it from being reduced to just a tourist trap,,,,yknow actually I feel like this could apply to a lot of neopian lands oooo I like this a lot help

Heck, since I'm getting kind of irritated at the lack of imagination of JS's Offseason Reports I was thinking of doing one of my own and that would perfectly go with this theme.

Is there anything I can buy from the NC Mall that's worth 25NC? Or am I just kinda stuck with that much until I eventually acquire more NC?

An Alien Aisha approaches and hands you Fermented Fish Tart. Gross. * I still really love this random event, because I have two Alien Aishas, and I like to pretend they're giving it to me.

So it looks like TNT will be updating some outdated/problematic language on site! (gutterfoot replies to the topic at the bottom of the linked page) This was in response to a topic asking they remove the g-slur from the site, and Gutterfoot's response suggests they'll be replacing even more than just that (my guess is Mystery Island is also on the radar). As also seen in the linked thread, there may be mixed thoughts on the proper use of this word, but I think in general it's definitely a good and overdue step for TNT to change this verbage. A number of affected people find the word offensive, and Neopets is a site that should put safety and a welcoming environment first, rather than get tied into controversial debate.

I don't think there's any reason to include Mystery Island as something needing replacing. There's only one problematic tribe on the island, and they are only problematic when their representation is removed from the context they appear in relative to the others.

I wasn’t referring to Mystery Island as a whole, but rather any descriptions/items related Mystery Island that feed into the tribalism stereotype.
I also saw speculation that the daily Gutterfoot alluded to could be Tombola, but I’m not sure myself.

G-slur? *Read threads* Ah, so what would it be renamed into? Neopets generally tries to ignore using real world group names so "Romani/Roma" may be out of the question. I don't think there's really a general term they could easily swap in, maybe "Traveler's Camp"? Would it to inconsiderate if TNT came up with their own Neopet-fied term like "Neomani/Neoma"? As for Mystery Island, I think the only characters that have anything to worry about is the Island Mystic and only because he has a bone through the nose which is an outdated stereotype image of native people (though I think it's of African native stereotype so it is kind of odd a Polynesian-based world has that, though then again never heard of Polynesian ninjas... NO THOSE DON'T COUNT). Jhuidah may also get a redesign so she's wearing actual clothes and not a coconut bikini. Otherwise everything else on Mystery Island I feel keeps clear of "the line".

Mystery Island daily: I'd guess Kitchen Quest needs a bit of a fix, too. When someone says "Nomad" their minds usually go to desert nomads so would be a bit confusing to a general audience. They'll be fiiine.

I think nomads is probably best since Travellers, at least in the UK which Neopets is based off, that usually refers to Irish Travellers specifically and itself is kind of an insult these days by itself. Wanderer might be an alternative I guess.
Personally I feel the daily gutterfoot was referencing is the Negg Cave, and the fact that one of the puzzles regularly appears as a swastika. The Tombola isn't exactly offensive.
