How's this for a new story I'm writing: Mharen and Tharen are forced to take a small vacation from Meridell to avoid a really tinkled off group of knights hunting them down. They find out about a chess tournament in Neopia Central, and on the way there, meet up with Sabreur and Steve, also headed for the tournmanent. They think Steve will be a push-over due to a stutter he has, but Steve winds up winning the tournament and royally kicking their butts. A handful of the knights manage to trace them down though after the tournament, and the group has to fight them off. It's meant to be funny and is looking to be either two or three parts. Here's an exerpt...
"“Flattery won’t help this time Mharen,” Illusen said sternly, “and it’s not me I’m worried about, it’s you two. I swore to protect you two since King Skarl has wrongfully upheld Echelon’s exile. And when the local knights hear about your latest batch of mischief, they’ll probably try to hunt you down." The Ixi shrugged. “Well, that’s no problem. We’ve dealt with them before, or rather, you have.” “Yes Illusen. Surely it’s no trouble ridding the world of some floud-headed knights. Besides, Kiss the Mortog has gotten very popular,” Tharen said slyly. At the mention of mortogs, Illusen turned a rather interesting shade of pink. “If word of that ever gets out!” she snapped, huffily folding her arms. Tharen raised both his hands pleadingly. “It’s all right. We won’t ever breath a word about where the mortogs come from. Honestly, we do appreciate your protection, and we’re sorry for our pranks.” Illusen sighed, a bit mollified. “Very well then. Try to contain yourselves in the future though.”

*grumbles* Very well. This is from part two, where Mharen and Tharen meet Steve (who has a stutter) and Sabreur (whose car has broken down). “It’s a partner game,” Sabreur explained, “one person plays white, the other black. Every time you take a piece, you give it to your partner. They can then move normally, or place a new piece on the board. The game continues until both kings are taken.” “I-I’m going to c-compete with S-s-sabreur.” “Yep. And you two are together, I assume.” “We are,” Tharen said, then hesitated. Mharen smoothly took up the conversation. “May we travel with you?” “Of course, if we can get the car started.” “We need a j-jump.” There was silence from the group until Infernus walked over. “Stand back,” he directed to everyone. The group moved away, and Infernus leaped into the air. There was a crackle, then a lightning bolt shot out and struck the battery in a blinding flash of light. Sabreur staggered over to the now humming-car, rubbing at his eyes. “Infernus…” he said weakly. “Hey, I got it started, don’t complain.” “With a GRAND LIGHTING BEAM?!” The Scorchio just shrugged.

I am resurrecting this topic from the dead because I do need help. *chants funny giberish while wearing a starry sorceror's hat*
Okay, there we go. Now, I start the story out with the fact that King Skarl is probably going to uphold Tharen's exile. *waits while everyone figures out the problem.
Alright, got it yet? Darigan won. So we don't know what's going to happen to Skarl which means I may have to make some major revisions. I have an idea in Darigan becomes ruler of Meridell or whatever: Darigan, deciding to start off on a good foot is going to repeal the exile. Except Mharen and Tharen pull a stunt that makes him think otherwise and he keeps the exile in place. It wouldn't be too much writing either as I already start off with them doing something dumb. There's other possibilities that could happen to Meridell also which scares me. I really like this series and don't want it to be killed due to a strange Meridellian plot line. Does anything know something I don't/can think of a better intro that should hold under any circumstances?
The things I have to keep in are this: exile, Illusen, and a rebellious group of knights that hunt Tharen down. Remove any of those and the story falls apart.
Last thing: since the subject of this story revolves around chess a bit, I would like to mention that tournament season is starting. This is the first year we're sending two teams and busing over with another school. And I'm president of the loony bin. God have mercy on my soul.

^^ Uh, this might not work, but could you just mention that they've been exiled from Meridell using passive sentences, so you never end up mentioning any names? Rather than saying, "Skarl/Darigan exiled us from Meridell because we played too many pranks!", could you say "We have been exiled from Meridell because we played too many pranks!"? I dunno...depending on how often that's mentioned, it might not work...or you could always just claim it's the timeline where /insert influential Darigan fighter/ chose to fight for Meridell instead...the way every choice/action is supposed to create a timeline for every possibility...
Yes, my ideas are very awful, but maybe they'll inspire some better ones...

Well, if you want an easy way out, just say its set in the not-to-distant past, pre-Darigan.

Hm, so your going to have some secondary characters from your two different series meet? Makes me wonder if Miracle_star and the Dragon Thieves might ever take on Child_dragon. . .

Hm, so your going to have some secondary characters from your two different series meet? Makes me wonder if Miracle_star and the Dragon Thieves might ever take on Child_dragon. . . Sabreur and Mharen-Tharen are the only characters that will meet... I chose Sabreur cause I KNOW he's good at chess. He always beats me. If MiracleStar went up against Kiddo *shudder* I wouldn't have any Dragon Thieves left to write about. Anyways, the passive sentances idea sounds pretty good... if my current series is about to end and there's nothing new on the Meridell plot I'll do that. I can pull some last-minute stuff I'm sure. Anyways: weekly chess update. My team got slaughtered at tournament yesterday... like always. Every year, the first round is a massacere for the schools ranked 15 and below. My team was ranked 17 and went up against the second place team from last year. I hate them. They're a bunch of stuck-up, "I am chess God" assholes. And their first board, who is the worst of the lot, hits on me every year. Like I'm gonna fawn on him cause he's so wonderful at chess. It hasn't changed in four years... They play to win, never for fun. Their coach is physco too.
