It's New Years eve. (For some people it's already a new year.) I've never really understood why people celebrate New Years, because it's always seemed so arbitrary- why do we start the count here? Really it's just a new day; any day is a year later than the same day last year. Why get all emotional and excited on this particular day?
But now I'm sitting here thinking: what does it matter? Why not this day? It's as good a day as any to reflect on life and say a special thank you to the people who mean so much to you. So I guess I thought I'd do that- tonight, just because I can.
In the last four-or-so years since I've been at the NTWF it's like I've become myself. A lot of it is connected to this forum- not everything, but a lot of it. Because here I've found friends. I've found out that it's okay to be who I am. I've found out there are people in the world with minds and hearts that are like mine- and also people with minds and hearts that are incredibly unlike mine, but are still beautiful people and true friends. I've learned how easy people are to love.
I've also learned how much people can hurt.
I guess I just feel...not like I owe something to this forum, but like I really want to give something. Because the people here, on this forum and in this world, are so amazingly beautiful. You all have such brilliant stories, such incredible hearts and gorgeous thoughts and beautiful, beautiful spirits. I have met people here who think they are nothing, and I need to tell you right now that you mean so much. To me, to your friends, to this forum and definitely to many other people you don't even know care about you. All of you. You are beautiful and you are unique and there is nobody who is beautiful in the same way as you are. And I feel so, so grateful that I have had the chance to get to know you, and will get to know you more.
I love you all so much, all of you forumers and my family and all the wonderful people in my life, and if we have ever been close at all I still consider you a dear friend. And if we haven't been then I dearly hope to be in the future.
There is a lot of love in this world. And I know you're all going to find it, because you radiate it.
