Kristy's NaNo Kill Mission

So, people who told me I should do it, you win. It only took two weeks of Muse beating me with her Thesaurus to give in, but I have.

So far, I haven't gotten a title. But, I do have a story synopsis and an ancient and terrible drawing, which I will give you soon. (Maybe not the drawing, we'll see.)

So, I've never done this before, so feel free to slap me if I'm going about this wrong.

Updates: Guess what, people? My body still hates me. Which is why I'm posting this at 2 a.m. for me, because it decides it feels best sitting up. XP

So, I've got a name for it now. The novel is titled Kill Mission. This sounds a little violent for me, but technically, it is kinda a violent story at points. I expect there to be some minor (and one scene more than a little) swearing and some very minor suggestive content.

The story follows my protagonist Cylie Demoranson through her life from about eight-years-old to her early thirties.

So, I'll stop rambling on and give you my bio for my Protagonist and her brief story synopsis.

Heroine: Cylie Demoranson

Age: Starting 8 ending 30-ish

Looks: Pale Blonde hair, slight curl, chin length at beginning, mid back by end. Blue-green eyes, the right one is lost in an accident and replaced with a nuroprostectic one.

Job: Level One Marshall

Cylie was born into a middle class family, the younger of two children. She was orphaned at eight when her parents were killed in gang violence on a train while riding through the slums to help at a shelter. She was raised by her eighteen-year-old brother Cylan. At fifteen she was allowed to transfer from high school into The Marshall Academy, to train to become a Marshall. She graduated with such high performance marks that she was started at Marshall Level Three.

By the time she was nineteen, three years later, she had been promoted to Marshall Level One, the highest level. The only Level with a license to kill on sight, and who are sent on Kill Missions, the only missions Cylie refuses to take. After three years of friendship she marries Anatoly Leons, the CEO and owner of Leons Corp, the largest conglomeration in Esimov.

Her faerietale life comes to an abrupt end when she discovers her husband, who she is still very much in love with, has been cheating on her. If life didn’t seem like it could get worse, a lab explosion takes Cylan from her not long later. Sure it must be murder, Cylie is ready to see that he gets justice. But, finding justice for Cylan will take her deeper than she could have ever dreamed, leading her to take on her first Kill Mission.

And, to explain what exactly her occupation is I'll post this explanation, which hopefully makes sense to other people than just me.

Marshalls and the Legal System:

Legal System:

The Country of Esimov’s legal system is controlled by a high council and a computer designed simply for the purpose of determining the guilt or innocence of the accused. The computer has intelligence enough to determine whether something is likely false, a connection to the web to look for even more information. It also will refuse to judge a case if it feels that there must be evidence being withheld. The computer weighs the evidence presented by the investigators, two sets; one who is supposed to look for possibility of guilt and the other of innocence, thought both must present all their findings. It determines guilt or innocence, and if guilty recommends the punishment. The high council reviews the findings as a final safeguard. If they uphold the conviction, they send the police to arrest the accused and bring them in for punishment.

The accused are not arrested until after their conviction, nor is much word spread that they are being investigated, to protect reputations if they are found innocent. However, those who know they are going to be found guilty if ever they are investigated are ready to run the moment they hear rumor that the legal system might be onto them. If they run, a Marshall is deployed to bring them back.

Marshalls:

Marshalls are Esimov’s police force against criminals on the run. All Marshalls attend The Marshall Academy, a yearlong brutal boot camp to ready them for their jobs. There are several levels to the Marshalls the higher the number the lower they are. The lowest pursue people who have committed non-violent crimes, tax-evasion, insurance fraud, and the like. The levels move up to more difficult offenders. Level One Marshalls pursue criminals whose crimes were so horrific they have been sentenced to death.

Level One Marshalls have a kill license; they are authorized to kill on sight. It is preferred that they recapture and return them for official execution, but not enforced. Sometimes, for particularly dangerous fugitives, a kill order is put out, meaning that the Marshall is sent to hunt down and execute the fugitive on the spot.

Update 2: Some character profiles, and I have the Transformers Prime theme, could I be a happier little hopeless fangirl? But, hey, whatever makes me write, right? Go listen to this piece of music if you haven't heard it, it is an incredible. The ending with the chorus of male voices vocalizing, I just love things like that. =3

Job: CEO, Head-Chairman, and Owner of Leons Corp, his family’s billion dollar company, one of the biggest conglomerates in Esimov.

Relation to Cylie: Husband.

I've worked out some world details, written up a brief character bio for two of my characters, and I'm doing a 30 question quiz from my character's POV.

I'm working on the synopsis, which I will put in my original post as soon as I have something worth putting up.

Soft 'C', like an 'S'. The female version of Cilan, (or at least I'd like to think so.) I'm spelling Cylan in the story with a 'Y' though because it makes them match, which is what I was going for, the sibling matching names.

Guys, I need to be committed to mental hospital, that or I really need NaNo to start.

I just typed some giant post here that got way out of control and ended with me typing up the whole original Hamtaro theme for no apparent reason.

So, yeah, NaNo is so close! I have never had a longer two weeks. It is ridiculous how long it is seeming to take compared to how the rest of the year flew by. XP

Bwahahahahahahahaha. Part of my original reluctance to do NaNo was based on the fact that my family is EBIL. Unintentionally so, (maybe) but they are.

I spend days bored out of my mind with nothing to do and play video games or browse the interwebs aimlessly and they leave me alone, but the moment I start anything I'm remotely interested in doing (or can't leave like KQ) they suddenly want me to do six gazillion things.

Such as today, seriously I have not sat at it for ten minutes straight without a distraction yet. That, and the mood down swing I had took my creative energy with it so just trying to get started is hard, so every distraction hurts it even more. Plus, I've this horrible physical tiredness that makes even typing seem like too much work.

I'm gonna stop whining and get back to writing before someone finds something else for me to do. XPPP

Remember when I said that, just yesterday? Well, guess what, today we have a sickness going around AGAIN. Yes, I awoke to the sound of the steam cleaner, hoping that someone had spilled something on the carpet that needed to be gotten up immediately.

But, no, I walked out to find about six wet spots on the floor of the living room. Apparently littler sis (I'm gonna call her Pika from now on if I have to mention her again.) was experimenting with all the positions you could throw up in, but not into a bucket. Kids, can't live with them, can't legally sell them to gypsies. (Doesn't mean I've stopped trying.)

But, even with yesterday I got to 4,350 before calling it a day. Hopefully I can do half as well today and still be above schedule.

I hope everyone else is doing well with their NaNo.

In spite of intense pain and lack of sleep due to said pain, my writing day could not have been better.

7,282 words written today for a grand total of 19, 418.

Excerpt time. This is from chapter 14 (provided it is 14, I keep forgetting what number I'm on and found I had multiple chapter 14s at one point. Most of my novels the chapters names.) Cylie is eighteen, been at her job for a bit now, and had one promotion.

Cylie tensed, waiting for the computer to give her the go ahead. She was going to try to beat her own best time through the obstacle course.

“Report to armory immediately,” the computer voice said instead.

Cylie turned and ran for the elevator, mildly worried. She had been told in the Academy that if she was ever told to report to an armory immediately she needed to drop everything and run. This was the first time in her nearly three years as a Marshall that she had ever gotten this command.

She got in and the elevator took her straight there, the computer clearly already had orders to do so. There were two armories in the building, one for women and one for men. When she reached the room she saw two other agents and Angela Bernard were there.

“Full armor ladies,” Angela instructed, unlocking a locker and pulling the door back, revealing a row of suits.

Cylie didn’t ask any questions as she pulled one off the rack, pulling off her track suit and stepping into the bodysuit. The bodysuit was skintight, made of lightweight and flexible, but bullet resistant fabric. It was advertised that it could take three bullets to the exact same spot before the fabric would sustain enough damage to allow penetration. It was also supposed to be cut resistant. A direct stab with enough force might get through, but a slice would definitely be turned away. The suits covered from the neck down, over the hands and feet. Cylie zippered it up the front, then pulled on the boots. She grabbed the suit’s helmet off the hanger.

She looked over; the other two Marshalls were pulling their helmets out too. Angela came to each of them; she had belts for them, with two high caliber pistols in the holsters. Usually the Marshalls only carried one. Cylie put on her helmet and took the belt, buckling it around her waist.

“Report to the ground level, ladies,” Angela said.

The three of them got in the elevator; it selected the ground level without being told. Cylie looked over at the other two trying to place them. She realized that they were Level Ones. The doors opened on the ground level. There was already a gathering; six other male agents were standing there with Vogel, all in full armor. The female Marshalls joined them.

Two cars pulled up outside, Cylie’s heart jumped into her throat as she followed the others outside. Whatever was going down was big if they were taking private transportation instead of public. Vogel divided them up between the two cars; she got up into the first car with him and three other Marshalls. Cylie only saw one other Level Two among the group.

She took a seat and buckled up. Once everyone was in the cars took off. Vogel started speaking; she could also hear him through her earpiece, he was addressing the people in the second car as well.

“All right, people, we have a massive situation on our hands. A terrorist and cop killer.”

Cylie felt her breath rush out; anyone audacious enough to kill cops was considered ultra-high risk. This was nothing like the other missions she had been sent on, she wasn’t even sure that Level Twos were supposed to deal with cop-killers. A picture of a normal looking guy appeared on the lens. She had been expecting a gangbanger type, but he looked surprisingly normal.

“That’s our fugitive, Adam Whitmore. At nine a.m. this morning he was seen entering the basement of a school in the Rivers district. He was not supposed to be there so the witness called the police. It turned out that his ex-girlfriend, who has a restraining order against him for assault, works there. The police showed up and found him setting up a homemade bomb in the basement, one powerful enough to take out that half of the school. He was stopped, but managed to flee the scene, shooting one of the first responders. He is in stable condition. He was spotted getting on a train to the Icon District. The police put out a warning and got ready to meet him at the station. However, he was more ready. The moment the train stopped and opened its doors he opened fire across the station, into the crowd of departing passengers. Six cops and eighteen civilians were shot. Two cops and three civilians are dead; six others are in critical condition. He escaped into the district and was lost. His condition is unknown, but witnesses seem to think he is relatively unharmed. The district has been locked down, it is impossible to leave, and those still in it have been alerted to lock their doors and not to open them for anyone. He still has to be in the Icon District. It is our job to find and, if possible, capture him. As he is ultra-high risk deadly force is authorized for everyone, including the Level Twos.”

Cylie’s stomach was doing summersaults. The Icon District was only two to the west of the Galic district. If he got away he could easily head into her home district and possibly hurt her friends and neighbors. The cars passed into the Icon district and landed. They were paired up in teams of two.

Cylie was put with Marshall Everton. They were directed to spread out, searching the buildings in a grid fashion, looking for any room was had obviously been broken into. Cylie reached up and pulled her helmet’s visor down as she followed Everton into their first building. She took out one of her guns, keeping it pointed at the floor.

“First time on a mission like this, kid?” Everton asked as they got in the elevator, headed for the first level to start their sweep.

“Yeah,” Cylie said. “I’ve tracked a murderer or two, but never anyone on this scale. I didn’t even know they let Level Twos on missions like this.”

“Not usually, we just happened to be short staffed at the moment. Most of the Level Ones are out on their usual mission loads right now. You and the other kid must be in line to be promoted when the next batch of retires start in the next year or two.”

There was no more time for conversation. They were absolutely silent as they got out and cased the floor. The doors on that level were secure still. They moved on through the building, and declared it secure.

An hour later, they had canvassed five more buildings, but no one had found him. They were actually crossing paths with Vogel and his partner when Cylie happened to look up. Something, Cylie thought a person, was moving on the roof of the building Vogel was about to enter.

“Computer, capture image and magnify.”

The computer took a picture of the area she was looking at; it clearly caught the man on the roof. It blew up the image. It was their fugitive.

“Patch me through to everyone,” she instructed. When it did she delivered the news. “Don’t look now, but he’s up on the roof of the building you are entering, Chief. I think he is watching us.”

Vogel and his partner stepped into the building and he spoke through the com system. “Everton, get in here. Demoranson, get out of his line of fire and keep an eye on him. We’ll ambush him on the roof.”

Everton headed into the building and Cylie stepped into the doorway of the building across the street. It would look to him like she had gone in the building, but she would still be able to see him. She had the computer focus on him and amplify the image, playing real time. Once all the Marshalls were out of sight, he got up from where he had been crouching to watch them and moved.

“He’s moving now, sir. He probably knows you’re in the building, he might be getting set up to shoot you when the elevator doors open.”

“Noted. Tell us if you can see what he’s got.”

“Yes, sir.”

Cylie watched. He didn’t seem to be pulling anything out. Instead he moved to the middle of the roof. He started running. When he reached the edge of the building, he jumped, landing on the roof of the building next to him. Cylie couldn’t stifle a cry of horror as she realized what he was doing. The buildings were close enough, and similar in height. He could keep jumping from building to building until he crossed out of the district. He would just be able to take an elevator down from some building in the next district over and disappear into the unsuspecting district.

“What is going on, Demoranson?” Vogel demanded.

“He’s jumping from roof to roof. I’m going to pursue,” Cylie reported as she raced across the street. “He’s headed north-west, you should have the police put out an alert to the next district over, and try to lockdown that one too.”

“Demoranson,” Vogel’s voice was grim. “This guy has murdered five people, and that count could grow. If have to shoot him, do not hesitate, and make it count.”

Cylie knew what that meant, ‘better him than you’. She ran as close to the buildings as possible, so that he wouldn’t see her unless he actually stopped to look over the edge. She had her computer calculate his speed and what building she could catch up to him on. She was clearly outdistancing him. She came to the building and raced into the waiting elevator, slamming the button for the roof. It ascended, feeling like an eternity. She pulled out both her guns and disengaged the safeties. The doors opened and she jumped out, guns up. She didn’t have time to call out and warn him to surrender. He heard the elevator and turned; a gun raised, and started firing.

Three of the shots hit Cylie, one in the right leg, one in the left arm, one straight in the visor. The armor did its job, deflecting them, though her arm and leg stung from the impact. She fired off two shots, one from each gun. Both were a hit. One into his left hip, one into his chest. A dark spot of blood appeared on his shirt and pant leg as he fell.
