*sees sudden NaNo forums* Wait what it's nowhere near time for--OH MY CRIPES IT'S OCTOBER. I think I'll have to sit out this year. Last year was spectacular for me, but now THAT project is busy eating my immortal soul. x3 I'd like to finish editing it before I do anything else. Then again, starting on the prequel might be pretty cool...

Oh, wow, I didn't realize the new site was up yet! It looks so pretty with the color scheme change >3<
Dang it, I'm all excited now. I'm already going to be starting a completely fresh draft of last year's project to tune it up, so I wonder if that would qualify...?

Dang, the site is so pretty I almost want to do one just because. But, I really should just keep muddling through editing and working on the several I already have.
I just wanted to wish everyone who is going to do it good luck! =D

Guys the forum on the site has a thread in the Horror and Supernatural section about ways to torture characters. How horrible.
*casually clicks the Watch Thread button* owo

I don't know if I'm participating this year or not. Last year I pretty much lost interest mid month, or rather had a hard time mustering up interest from the beginning, and said that I might take a year off. I can't decide for sure though. Guys the forum on the site has a thread in the Horror and Supernatural section about ways to torture characters. How horrible. *casually clicks the Watch Thread button* owoThere's also an "Adopt a Torture" thread in the adoption society.

Oh my goodness thank you. <3 COUGH COUGH I mean why would you ever suggest that to me? D: I am not that kind of person. Obviously it's up to you whether you want to participate or not, but you could always set a smaller word goal, so if you lose interest, maybe it'll just be enough for you to "finish"? *is an expert at advice. Obviously. coughcough*

Obviously. coughcough* It's a (not so? ) surprisingly popular thread. Yeah, I haven't decided yet. I do technically have an idea for a prologue that popped into my head months ago, but I haven't the slightest idea for what the actual story would be. Not that that should necessarily be a consideration in NaNo, but I'm still not sure if I want to do anything with it.

It's my intention to enter, though only if I finish my outline by the first. I'm curious, do you guys normally outline, and to what extent? I've got both a 'timeline' style outline of important events and a chapter by chapter breakdown that's getting quite large.

I've written a basic synopsis to about the middle of my story, and I'm doing a thirty question quiz, I also wrote a sorta guide to how a system crucial to the story works, and some super basic bios, but that is it for planning really.
But, usually, I don't to any planning, I just jump right in. The planning is just to appease the urge to write until Nov. 1st.

I don't know if I'm participating yet this year or not, but in previous years I haven't really planned. The most I've got in with is a couple characters, a "what if" scenario/basic premise, and an idea of what was to happen in the first scene or two.
I've considered doing some really basic planning if I join in this year - you know, have a few major plot points to work towards and maybe an idea of how the story is to end, if only to have something to be working towards. I'm terrible at endings especially.

I do a synopsis, character details, and occasionally basic outlines. I have the general idea of how things will go down in my head, but when I do any more than that I end up getting something that doesn't resemble the original idea in any way and end up frustrated with it.

I've gone in blind before, really didn't work for me. I'm very happy with how the plotting is going. It's let me troubleshoot some stuff already, mostly going back and making notes to introduce some characters and elements a little earlier so they don't come out of nowhere. My hope is that if I can work out the major structural issues now I will have less to fix later. In reality I'll probably have just as many completely new issues.

I'm still trying to reach a happy medium. I always used to outline heavily, but it got mechanical and boring; then I tried semi-pantsing last year and ended up with a very hard-to-fix draft. Absolute bare minimum, though, I go in with a premise, main character, antagonist, beginning, ending, and a big handful of things that might happen along the way. I think I'd go nuts if I didn't.

I thiiiink I might use NaNo this year to push through a bunch of work on my in-progress novel. *heretic* So in that case I have like 38k done already and also a bunch of outlines and stuff. (I graphed the plots yesterday, that was fun.)
