This was way too obvious. As soon as someone opened the door at the top of the tower something terrible would happen and they would die in some appropriately horrible manner. On the other hand, it was clear that the top of the tower was the primary goal here.
On the other hand...safety in numbers. If there were enough "wives" present and they were all too well equipped, maybe they could deal with whatever was supposed to happen to them.
Amneiger looked up just in time to see that a number of the players had already left before he could talk to them about his plan. It looked like there were still a few people who hadn't started moving up the stairs yet.
"He's going to kill anyone who opens the door," Amneiger said to them. "But there's almost certainly no way out of here other than the door. If we want to survive we'll have to work together. We should pick up anything that can be used as a weapon or tool and then wait outside the door until we have as many people as we can. Once there's enough of us, we open the door then. How does that sound?"
While he was speaking Amneiger checked to see if he still had the weapons from the last stage. He wondered if the scale was around here somewhere.

She should have blasted whoever it was that was making that infernal noise instead of having to run like a novice. She was skilled enough in fire and air magic to hurt whatever it was. But some force, a force which she did not dare argue with, propelled her on and before she knew it, she came face to face with...
A sphinx. Celestial was ready to go back down. She preferred whatever the heck it was down there to sphinxes. She'd had a rather nasty encounter with a sphinx last time and would rather not get stoned again. That was unpleasant. At least it wasn't the same sphinx.
The mage looked down at the deck of cards near the sphinx's feet, the rules for advancing past it and finally to the large book titled "Blackjack for those who don't want to be Dummies". It was very scruffy-looking and clearly read a lot by a large creature. Oh, great. Either sphinxes have a pathological problem with gambling or this really was the same sphinx. Celestial decided to keep her head low and tried to remember everything she knew about playing blackjack.
Tiger was in the room with her. So if she lost, she wouldn't be alone to suffer for it. For some reason, this wasn't much comfort.
"Hit me," she said, sitting down on the stone floor and waiting for her cards to be dealt.
[dice=13][dice=13]
20. This was probably as close as she could get to a 21, unless the sphinx got very lucky.
"Stand," Celestial said, ending her turn and waiting, playing with a little flame in her hand.[rand=776778163872603296225613782996893606015799528298932937121366242]

Well, there wasn't anything too interesting in this room. There was only one thing for it. Time to head up again. [dice=6][rand=991956419078633297978727146983151788385794498026411286068824119866]

Kristy watched Azalea head for the stairs. She lingered a moment to look around the room, but found nothing noteworthy and decided to move on too.

((I apologize, I should have been more clear: in the future, please wait until I post everyone's updated status before rolling again. Azzie and Kristy--I'll include your second rolls in the status after this one, so you don't have to roll again until that happens. Everyone else can take their second turns now.)) Zylaa: You apparently decide that taking your time is the way to go, moving only one square upwards. Jernath, Zephyr: You meander a leisurely 2 squares upward. Nothing much to see here. Azzie, Kristy, GLQ, Draco: You all make your way to square 4. This is definitely the happening place to be. Built into the wall is a magnificent steampunk contraption: the Ascensor. You go in, and it takes you up to square Celestial: In contrast to your nemesis, you bound forward enthusiastically. Just as you are thinking about stopping, however, you hear mysterious footsteps behind you. While you're certain that you could kick the tail of whatever is behind you, the story requires that you scrabble up one more flight of stairs, coming to...the Sphinx. The Sphinx looks up at you. "Hello there, fancy a game?" It pauses, leaning toward you. "Say, I know you! Let's hope you're better with gambling than you are with riddles." [dice=13] "Oooh." The Sphinx ponders, before playing another card. [dice=13] "Oooooh. That's a push. You keep your bet; you don't go up, and you don't go down. Of course, you can play again if you like. There might be more than just extra squares in it for you if you win." ((You can stay on this square and play again if you want, or you can roll and move.)) Tiger: You dash forward to the Sphinx's room. However, you apparently have no interest in engaging in a game with it. Amneiger: You're on such a roll organizing the team that you forget about rolling to move. This effort is worthy of great praise, to be sure. Gelquie looked around her as she rode up the contraption. Even though it wasn't entirely her type, she had to admit it was quite an interesting device. Not as ugly and bland as Spacefleet material, yet just as effective. She took a moment to marvel the work before she steps off onto the seventh floor. She then takes a look at the company around her. Two girls and... That one ninja. Great. She tried to ignore him in the first round, but it looks like she was sharing the same room with him for now. Although maybe she could get away from the group on the stairs. She headed over to ascend again.

Well, this wasn't what she had in mind. One minute, she was heading up the stairs as fast as she could. The next minute, she barreling her way down a slide. Before she could think of a plan, she landed onto the floor below. ...Floors. How many floors did she travel? This was no way to reach the top.
Gelquie then looked up to see a sphinx before her. She'd never seen it before... But she'd heard tales of such a sphinx from the Archmage. She hoped it wasn't the same one; she didn't want to get stoned either. This was not a good time or place for that.
Soon, she found that she was dealt two cards. Ah, blackjack. She was introduced to the game some time ago, even if she never played much. She looked at the cards in front of her.
[dice=13][dice=13]
Hmm, a 17. Not the best she could do. But it wasn't worth drawing another card.
"I stand," Gelquie said.[rand=8489849639590831805507719982415472291218815371397606509812176228]

"Hi. I really hoped that I wouldn't run into you this time. It's not so much hard feelings as just plain embarassment," Celestial says, not looking up at the Sphinx. "At least my fears that sphinxes are naturally drawn to gambling are at rest."
She watched the Sphinx drawing the cards, deciding not to count them in case it can read minds. You never know with these tricky creatures. Thankfully, it could have been much worse than a draw. The mage let her heart stop doing tapdances and got up to leave.
"Well, it was...interesting seeing you again. I should get going," Celestial said but she stopped at the door as soon as she heard mention of the fact that there was more to it than extra squares. She paused for a moment to consider the offer. However, as soon as the Sphinx drew an Ace, she decided against it.
"Nah, I'm getting out of here with my pride intact. Don't want to lose against you in both riddles and casino games. Plus my gut tells me you're going to kick all sorts of butt with that ace you drew there. But hey, maybe we can have a casual game another day. I wouldn't mind getting to know you better, you seem pretty interesting. For now, goodbye," Celestial said and walked out towards the stairs.
[dice=6]
Five, again? Oh well. Here's hoping no more creepy footsteps would follow her. Because if they did, they would burn. She wasn't that fond of abandoning the prize the Sphinx promised.[rand=7654788503797159763067364269905333944516920536756535251267879434]

Jernath, seeing that there was nothing in particular to see on this floor, decided to keep going. No way to go but forward.

Tiger watched Celestial play a round against the Sphinx, trying to recall the rules of Blackjack. The dragon-mage seemed uneasy around the creature, though Tiger didn't know what to make of it.
The Archmage left, Gelquie came and played a hand. Tiger shrugged, and stepped forward to draw her own cards. "I'll try as well." Extra squares - she wasn't positive what that meant, but there had to be some advantage.
[dice=13][dice=13]
Well...Tiger supposed there were worse starts. "Hit," she said, hoping her luck would improve.
((I think at this point, I think I need to wait for the Sphinx? In case not, let me "draw" so I don't hold anything up - obviously disregard this if it isn't okay. ))
[dice=13]
Tiger nodded slightly. Twenty - right on the cusp of where she needed to be. Hopefully the Sphinx wouldn't manage a miraculous draw...uneasily, Tiger remembered that Sphinx were not kind to those who failed their games. [rand=41819800203666096936985396314412227763564558699737091251437086612]

Draco has a small smirk as he rides the steampunk elevator with the others, mainly Gelquie.
"So we meet again."
Of course he was thinking that, so no one heard it.
[dice=6]
And it would seem he was following her some more!
--- ((and in case, that means I fell and I'm playing blackjack too....))
He slides down, right after Gelquie.
"So we meet again... Wait, that was out loud this time."

"Hit."

On the first day, Zylaa decided that taking her time was decidedly the way to go. Let others rush ahead into the dangers and traps; she would gingerly go through behind. Slow and steady wins the race, right?
More to the point, if there was treasure in the towertop, she could always fetch it later with the weasels. Whereas if there was some dire punishment for opening the secret door, well...
[dice=6]
... Ah, heck with it, there could be treasure up there!
Blackjack: [dice=13][dice=13]
"Lousy cards."
[dice=13]
"Nevermind!" Zylaa hopes she has remembered the rules of blackjack correctly and also hopes that the Sphinx does not get vengeful if beaten.[rand=8158753006719053918770236894488353138799616135666815788205713034]
