Morning
Prosecution Lobby}
: So we're really back here again...
: Got some information on the defense and judge... Seems both of them are Neopian, and I don't think we've met either before...
: I'm actually glad for that. I don't know if I have time for one of Wright or Justice's signature turnabouts.
: ...You don't seem too concerned.
: It doesn't help worrying about what's going to happen. We just need to get in there and steal the truth like old time's sake, right?
: ... Right. Let's go.
{Courtroom A}
: Court is now in session for the trial of Jokerman of Rinam.
: The prosecution is ready, Your Honor.
*A green hissi is standing at the defense's bench.*
: The defenssse is ready, Your Honor. I also suppose I should introduccce myself to the esssteemed Prosecutor Faraday. My name is JonasssAkker. I never get a guilty verdict for my clients. My record is sssuperb.
: Mr. Akker... While I am used to your theatrics, that was somewhat out of turn... Does the prosecution have an opening statement?
:
(Well, the defense certainly did...) The prosecution only seeks to find out the truth of this case. The verdict will be decided upon the facts.
: Very good, Mr. Faraday. You may call your first witness.
: I call Detective Badd to the stand.
*Badd takes the stand.*
: Please state your name and occupation for the court.
: Tyrell Badd... I'm a detective working with the local police force.
: Please state the details of the case, detective.
: The victim, Wallace Bennice, was killed at his robot repair shop at approximately 11 PM on the sixth. He died of a single gunshot wound through the chest. The markings on the bullet match the gun the defendant was holding when she was found at the scene unconscious. The police were called by a resident living near the shop in question when they heard the commotion. ... I believe that is all the relevant information...
: Thank you, Detective. The defense may now begin their cross-examination.
: Thank you, Your Honor.
: The victim, Wallace Bennice, was killed at his robot repair shop at approximately 11 PM on the sixth.
: He "was killed"? Cccertainly sssuicide cannot be ruled out, no?
: If it were suicide, there would be gunpowder burns... None exist.
: Ah, but the man was a massster of machinery. He could not have created a device for this purpose? Overlooking possibilities... Your name fitsss your investigative skill, Detective Badd.
: ...
It's always a good idea to respect your elders, kid...
: Continue with the testimony, if you will.
:
(This guy is pretty thorough... or insane.): The markings on the bullet match the gun the defendant was holding when she was found at the scene unconscious.
: Oh, and how was a
robot knocked unconsciousss?
: *presents Robot Anesthetic* This device was found on her when she was taken by police. It is believed to have been used by the victim for working on robots, similiar to how normal anesthetic would be used during surgery...
: Sssomething you should have stated earlier, no? It ssseems like it could prove quite relevant...
: ...
: No rebuttal thisss time? You're learning well! Now, carry on, then.
: The police were called by a resident living near the shop in question when they heard the commotion.
: One moment!
: ...What is it now.
: Just give me the moment to sssavor this. Since it was so late, and the victim worked alone... Your sole witness was a building away!
: Sorry Akker, can't give you that moment. Because we do have a witness that was inside the shop at the time of the murder.
: Excussse me!?
: While it's true he worked alone... Another robot was in the shop at the time. The prosecution calls Rick to the stand!
*Rick is placed on the witness stand by the bailiff.*
: Please state your name and occupation for the court.
: The name's Rick, I'm an Adventure Sphere, a Personality Construct created by Aperture Laboratories.
: Please testify about what you saw and heard on the night of the murder.
: I was visiting the doc because of a few scrapes I got on my last adventure. He was tinkering away in his office when a chrome-plated goddess stepped through the door, looking for some help. I told the doctor to take a break from me and help the pretty lady first. He closed up the office then, so I couldn't see what I was doing, but I could hear the tinkering and such to tell he was checking her out... and who can blame him, but I meant in a medical way. I heard the doc say he found something fishy with the results, and then after that there was a bang and two crashes, which I guess was the gun and the two of them falling over. I heard the police come, and some shrieking creature, but that's all until the prosecutor and detective found me.
: Thank you, Mr. Rick.
: Please, Mr. Rick is my dad's name.
: Er, um, right. Thank you, Rick. The defense may begin their cross-examination.
: I was visiting the doc because of a few scrapes I got on my last adventure.
: If the court will excussse the tangent for my curiosity... What kind of an adventure could a limbless sphere partake in?
: Isn't the better question what kind of adventure would
cause me to be limbless?
: It would, if it were not for the fact that Aperture manufacturesss their cores that way.
: ...Let's just say that if you think the testing chambers for humans are hard, you haven't seen anything.
: Akker, is there any point to this line of questioning?
: Curiosity killed the cat, Your Honor, only sssatisfaction was able to bring it back.
: I'm not familiar with that particular murder case! I'll have to look into it.
:
(Could we just keep going...): I heard the doc say he found something fishy with the results, and then after that there was a bang and two crashes, which I guess was the gun and the two of them falling over.
: "Something fishy"?
: Yeah, but I didn't listen real well. It'd be impolite to eavesdrop on a personal conversation with a lady. I just closed my eyes and started humming a tune. *hums*
: Yesss, but you must have heard-
: *keeps humming*
: Defendant, I-
: *hums louder*
: RICK!
: What is it, what's the emergency!?
: I'm also curiousss about the bang and two crashes. What was the timing on them, as in, how close together were they?
: One crash was right after the gunshot, so that must've been the doc. A clank was a little while later, when the assailant took down the pretty lady.
: We have no proof yet that there was a third party involved.
: Wasn't no party at all, if anyone told you there was cake, they lied. Life lesson there: Don't believe in cake.
: I mean, you can't prove somebody was there other than the victim and the defendant.
:
Au contraire, Prosssecutor Faraday. You overlook a significant detail. Rick and Jokerman both confirm that the inspection happened before the murder.
Explain then, how the murder weapon was able to be concealed?
: I... don't have an answer for that now.
: Sssplendid. In which case my client walks free and I get my news story for defeating the great Faraday in only one day.
: Akker does have a point. It seems impossible for there to be no third party involved. Therefore, I must declare the defendant, Jokerman of Rinam, to be-
Hold it.: ...
: Detective Badd?
: ...So there was somebody, or something, else there. Tell me how that proves who pulled the trigger.
: What, sssomebody walked in and gave Jokerman the gun?
: ...The truth isn't sweet, nor is it ever simple. Faraday, I think you know what is needed.
: Right. The prosecution requests permission to continue our investigation.
: A challenge, hmm? This shall be interesssting.
: The court grants the prosecution's request. *slams foot on table* Court is adjourned.
