So, I'm doing NaNo this year again. I'm hoping this year I'll actually be able to win again, or at least not give up before the month is over like I have the past few years. XD;
I've been putting a lot of thought into my story, because I want to plan more in-depth this time. That should help me keep motivated and interested.
So, here's the idea I have so far:
A had no siblings, so her cousin B was like a sister to her when they were kids, but that was a long time ago. They grew apart as they grew up, and although A ocasionally thought about their moments together and remembered them fondly, the truth is those days seemed too far away. They each had gone their own ways and made their own lives.
When B died due to an unknown illness, the only thing A got to remember her by was one item from her jewelry box. It was a beautiful gold necklace with a lovely iridiscent pearl. A had taken it with guilt, feeling like she didn't deserve such a treasure from her cousin, who she hadn't made an effort to keep in touch with. But once she had it, she knew she could never part with it. The necklace represented exactly how she had felt about her 'sister'. The pearl in it seemed to glow, and B had been a light in her life when she needed it the most.
One day, someone broke into A's house and stole the pearl necklace. And that's when the real story starts. Who is the thief? And why, with A being moderately wealthy, did they only steal that item? Is there something about it that A doesn't know?
The strangest thing is, as soon as the necklace disappeared, A's daughter came down with an illness. It didn't seem to be anything to worry about at first, but it got increasingly worse. Doctors can't figure out yet what exactly is wrong with her, but A knows the symphtoms are exactly the same B had before she died.
She needs to get to the bottom of the mystery, but most importantly, she needs to get the necklace back. She has no clue how, but she is sure its absence is connected to the illness. She doesn't know where to start looking, but she won't let that stop her. She already lost one person she loved. She can't afford to lose a second one.

I've thought of a few answers to the questions there, but I'm not sharing those. At least not yet. I feel like I've told more than I should have already. XD But well.
I might still change parts of it, but I'm pretty happy with the general idea for the story, so I'll probably keep most of it. We'll see. Oh, and I need to think of character names. A and B were just placeholders. XD
A's husband should probably become a character too. I just haven't thought about him much. Everything just needs a lot more developing, but I still have time for that. XD
