It's been a rough Christmas season for Maurice Foster and her three children. Her husband was conscripted into war in August, and has received no word from him except for a letter he sent in early October. With hardly any money to support her family, and no work available, there was little food and the bank threatened foreclosure. But on December 23rd, things took a turn from bad to beyond the unthinkable. Her eight year old son Nicholas was suddenly abducted. He was playing in the sandbox just before noon and when Maurice was bringing him lunch at quarter after, he was gone. Only her best friend and neighbour Clara Walters responded to her screams. The rest of their community closed their windows and acted like they didn't hear a thing. When they went to the police, they were told there was nothing they could do. And so, except for her two children and friend Clara, Maurice is alone in the search to find her eight year old boy before it's too late. -- So before I was lightly debating with myself if I should do Nano or not. Then I remembered that I have a writing course I'm taking next semester, so I thought I should get into the hang of RL writing before then. So, I decided to do a mystery kidnapping case. I'm already falling in love with Nicholas <3 He's too cute. Too bad he gets abducted ;_; I copied Tamia's idea in the camp nanowrimo and made a logo =D 'Cause logos are cool. And Tamia is quite inspiring.

Christmas and Mystery? Awesome! I'm already looking forward to get to know your characters a little more (so that I can share your impression that Nicholas is cute ). And I can't help the suspicion that the father's absence and the lack of communication will play a not too little role in the whole mess. It sounds already captivating.

And I can't help the suspicion that the father's absence and the lack of communication will play a not too little role in the whole mess. It sounds already captivating. Thanks =D You actually gave me some ideas for the story, so thank you very much! ^_^
John Foster (Age: 37)
The provider of his family, this is a man who will die to protect any one of his kids or his wife. He values honesty and integrity, and wants that to be passed down to his children. He is 37 years old, and when his country (Joben) went to war against Izdubarg (...I'm still unsure if the setting takes place in Earth or not XD) he was torn. He wanted to protect his country and family, but he knew his family needed him most at home. But the government enforced conscription, and he was forced to go to war. The war has been going on for a good five months and is still going strong, so it is unlikely he will be able to come home at all this next year.
Maurice Foster (Age: 34)
On the outside, she is your stereotypical housewife. She takes care of her three young children, she does the laundry, cooks, cleans and does everything necessary to make her home work like clockwork. She enjoys a good chat over coffee with her friends, and loves tea. On the inside, which not many people see, she is a fighter. She stands up for what she believes in, and while she respects other peoples opinions, if people infringe on her opinions she won't back down without a fight. When her husband however, she understands that he needs to be the protector and provider, so others view her as meek and submissive. However, when her husband is unavailable - such as during this time of war - she can and will do everything in her power to win any important fight.
June Foster (Age: 11)
Trivia: June Foster was originally John Foster Jr. I was originally call 'him', Junior for short. Then I realized I could shorten it further to June, but then realized that June is a girls name. But I really liked June as a name so John turned to June. =D
June is almost the opposite of her mother, Maurice. She gets frustrated easily and gives up most of the time. She has a rebellious nature in her, but at 11 years old, she hasn't had the opportunity to turn against her parents just yet. When her younger brother is kidnapped, at first she was very concerned, but when they don't find him right away and they have no leads, she instantly gets discouraged and figures they will never find him. I figure she'll learn the most in the journey to find Nicholas.
Daniel Foster (Age 10)
Trivia: Not named/modeled after Dan the forumer, but after someone I know IRL. =D
Daniel is quite quiet. He likes to be in the know, near the action but he remains quiet and keeps his thoughts to himself. He and June bicker quite a bit, as he really wants to find his younger brother. Though he is quiet, he doesn't know is that something he'll say will greatly affect Nicholas' fate...
Nicholas Foster (Age 8)
Young and innocent, Nicholas has a huge hunger for life and is already starting to embrace everything that is given to him. He always has a smile on his face and he's constantly laughing. He brightens everybody's unhappy day, and his smile is quite infectious. But one day, he was playing in the sandbox and a stranger took him from his backyard to a place he didn't know. Now alone with a strange man or woman in a foreign place, young Nicholas has no idea what may happen to him.

Hm, while at first I thought this story might fit well with an Earth-setting, any other setting is fine with me as well *g* As for the kids, I love them all! They all have great potential and the parents seem genuine. Mothers are always fighters, though they only show it when necessary I think I like June best so far (because of all the lessons she has to learn) and I am glad that you changed her into a girl as I think a girl for that person is just perfect!

so. 1700 words in my novel. I'm.. not enjoying it that much tbh. XD Maybe it's because I didn't want to get into the interesting things right away. I think I spent the majority of the time in one conversation between Maurice and Clara and.. it was boooring. D: I think I might emphasize more on the war than I was originally planning. Actually. Whoa ideas rushing in. XD I would definitely be able to incorporate the war into it a lot, which would definitely help. =D Yay. *makes notes*
For as long as anyone can remember, the country of Izdubarg has always been at war. Many dictators have risen from the country, hoping to be the Emperor of the New Earth, to control all the resources, to control the land and wealth. All of them have fallen.
Except Kingsly.
Lord Harold Kingsly usurped the throne from the late King Aztan, killed the Royal Family and instantly took control of foreign affairs. He conquered the neighbouring countries of Shadowglen, and Blackwood, and now his eyes are fixed on Joben.
It started with raids, innocent raids on small villages, to get a feel for the country’s territory. But then armies soon marched on Joben’s soil, and Joben struck back.
Joben’s defence held, and Izdubarg retreated. Not giving up fully, however. But Joben did not waste any time and launched an assault on Kingsly’s land. All of Joben’s resources are channelled towards the war only, and the people are poor and starving.
But that’s not all of their worries.
Kidnappings of small children have made the headlines in Joben’s newspapers, however no one is sure if the kidnappings were from local citizens, or enemies from Izdubarg. No one is sure who is kidnapping the young citizens, nevermind why, but families of Joben are on high alert of any strange folk that may occur.
Our story begins with the Foster Family. A family of five, now four, live in a small village in Joben, with the provider of the family on the front lines in enemy country. Life is rough, and little does the mother, Maurice, know how much rougher life will get.
